Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Double Feature (1932/1941) DVD

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)
Fredric March won an Oscar® for playing the protagonist (and antagonist) of Robert Louis Stevenson's story. Dr. Henry Jekyll is an honorable man of science, albeit frustrated at the enforced celibacy of a delayed wedding date. Hyde is the fearsome creature he turns into after drinking a potion, and Hyde's appetites (mostly expressed with Miriam Hopkins's Cockney dance-hall wench) are decidedly unrestrained. March's performance is pretty theatrical, but it's fun to watch; his Hyde twitches and squawks and lopes around like an ape in a tuxedo. Rouben Mamoulian's direction has plenty of the brio of early-thirties Hollywood, and the transformations from Jekyll to Hyde are ingenious for the time. This film followed Dracula and... Dracula - The Legacy Collection (Dracula / Dracula (1931 Spanish Version) / Dracula's Daughter / Son of Dracula / House of Dracula) DVD

Why would Universal previously distribute a superior DVD and then repackage the same film but decrease the quality???

The Legacy Collection of the original Dracula movie from 1930 is a lesser quality DVD than it's predecessor from the Classic Monsters Collection set. The image quality is blurry and fuzzy - I'll take film grain and hairs over blurred out images anyday. The audio is also muted and soft as compared to the earlier released DVD.

I've compared both DVDs side by side, and the previous "Classic Monsters Collection" DVD won out in DVD quality.

My suggestion to all customers is to avoid these lesser quality (but newer) releases of Dracula and buy the earlier release instead. More Info about this DVD

The Comedy of Terrors / The Raven DVD

I enjoy the master of horror Vincent Price in movies like this one, along with Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre. This is a cult classic that anyone who enjoys comedy mixed with a little terror will surely want to watch. This very early performance by Jack Nicholson is great to see. The picture quality of this DVD is very good. More Info about this DVD

    Devil Bat DVD

Dr. Paul Carruthers (Bela Lugosi) is a scientist who invents new fragrances for a successful aftershave maker. His failure to invest in the company has left him without the millions he feels he deserves. Carruthers is a bitter man who has sworn revenge. How? Does he plan to sue for his fair share of the profits? Nah, the sinister doc creates a small army of giant, mutant, killer bats to exact his vengeance! These fuzzy monsters are attracted by a new aftershave lotion he's formulated in his secret laboratory. He gets his intended targets to splash some on their faces. One by one, the victims are attacked, their throats ripped out by soaring, shrieking, stuffed devil bats! Bela is priceless as always. This movie belongs in every horror collection... The Monster Legacy Collection (Frankenstein / Dracula / The Wolf Man) DVD

I usually get a DVD give it a quick look then write a review. This time I viewed the whole package before submitting my review. When you get your set carefully remove the discs.Look at the holder behind it.If you see a little plastic protrusion gently scratch it away with your fingernail then wipe clean. I'm glad I caught this in time. I'm sure this would have scratched my set.And probably yours. My set plays perfectly. The bonus features are great.Werewolf of London, Dracula (spanish), Dracula's Daughter, She-Wolf of London, and Son of Dracula, I consider as bonus films, the rest are the meat and potatoes of the set.A few years ago I considered purchasing Dracula on VHS, but the only copy I could find was with the Phillip Glass score. After viewing the disc in all three presentations(No...
