A memoriable film that soothes the heart and touches the soul. ITS PAT! is one of the first films to put a gender confused he/she into the spotlight. The only thing holding this movie back from the prestigious 5 star rating is the frusturation I felt after leaving the theatre... Alright you got me it went stright to VHS, but still i felt angry and confused while rewinding my copy of Its Pat.
It's ME!
I finally saw this movie after hearing about it for nearly 10 years. I have never seen anyone on TV or a movie that resembled me as much as Pat does. I've gone through life, having people tell me I look like her/him. They always laugh after they tell me that, but I figured it's because he/she is so funny. Finally, I can start using jokes from this movie to get laid. I can't wait! I'm going down to the local tavern that I live next to "The Woodshed" to get some action right now!
HIGHLY EVOLVED COMEDY
It's Pat is funny and ironic. It's not slapstick Chevy Chase stuff, which incidentally I also like. It's more evolved humor for those who appreciate subtle comedy with a larger meaning, i.e. that many of us obsess over that which we can't explain. We gotta know - is Pat a he or a she or what? As the street tough black dude says to Pat: "Is you a man, or is you a WOman?" The karaoke scenes at Chris and Pat's engagement party are great especially when Pat sings "Dude looks like a lady.." and "Freak out!" Interactions between the equally androgynous Chris (Dave Foley) and Pat had me rolling. Charles Rocket gets funnier with each viewing and Julia Sweeney is a genius.
A truly horrible story is told very well in this memoir of family tragedy and recovery from life- threatening cancer. After leaving Saturday Night Live, comedienne Julia Sweeney was newly divorced and looking forward to a new life in Los Angeles. But her optimism was shattered when she learned that her brother had been diagnosed with cancer. He moved in with her, and before long Sweeney found out that she was suffering from a rare form of cervical cancer. The story of Sweeney, her brother, and her parents (whose moving in with her gave odd comic relief to all the health problems) is a moving tale, tragedy leavened with moments of good humor and uplifting insight. Though it seems like a one-joke premise, this spinoff of Al Franken's Saturday Night Live character, self-help nerd Stuart Smalley, actually has some substance. And, in fact, it offers a message that wouldn't be out of place at an Al-Anon meeting (although with the laughs). Stuart, fired from his cable TV self-help show, goes home to resolve a family crisis. Dad (Harris Yulin) is an abusive drunk, Mom (Shirley Knight) is an enabler, Sis is an over-eater, and Brother has a problem with his temper. The film turns serious, but Franken actually makes the drama interesting, using humor to leaven it. And he brings a certain sympathy and resolve to the lisping, cross-eyed Stuart. To be sure, it's not your typical SNL movie. --Marshall FineMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Al Franken - Laura San Giacomo - Vincent D'Onofrio Director(s): Harold Ramis DVD Release Date: Released the 17 April 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

Molly Shannon, the latest Saturday Night Live comic to have a movie built around her, isn't exactly funny--in fact, she's a little unsettling. Her creation, the neurotic Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher, invites laughter because she's a little too close to the bone for anyone who grew up feeling ugly and unloved, which is a lot of people. Mary lives with her grandmother (Glynis Johns), who insists that Mary study business. Mary herself yearns to be famous and admired, though for what isn't exactly clear; she envisions some vague combination of singing, dancing, and acting that will make her a superstar. A talent show promises to be her ticket to stardom (the winning prize is a role in "a movie with positive moral values"), and she won't let her loser status or any... Filmmaker Ross McElwee turns his cameras inward when his proposed documentary on Northern Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman, perhaps the single most hated Union officer in the South, becomes a witty and unexpectedly engaging meditation upon his own ailing love life. As McElwee retraces Sherman's 19th-century march through the South, where his blazing trail left smoking ruins of Georgia's cities and towns in his wake, he can't seem to help but train his camera on a succession of Southern women he meets along the way, using the documentary as a sly method of meeting girls. (Aspiring filmmakers take note: it works surprisingly well.) Sherman's March evolves into an introspective meditation on love, happiness, the fear of nuclear holocaust, and the meaning of life. McElwee's... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Ross McElwee Director(s): Ross McElwee DVD Release Date: Released the 06 April 2004 Usually ships within 24 hours

A starkly original visual treat, this Halloween-themed exercise in terror is uncommonly well made, seeking to add yet another creature to horror film lore. A group of teenagers camping in a remote mountain resort accidentally kill a boy and cover it up, and his aggrieved father (Lance Henriksen) vows revenge. Enlisting the help of a local witch, he conjures up a mythic demonic monster to kill those responsible for his son's death. The plot and dialogue are not very original, but the creepy mood and some fine work by director Stan Winston (the special effects whiz behind Jurassic Park) make Pumpkinhead an eerie gothic horror tale and great viewing for Halloween nights. --Robert LaneMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Lance Henriksen - Jeff East Director(s): Stan Winston DVD Release Date: Released the 14 August 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours
