I saw this at Movie Trading Company for $3.99 and on sale for $1.99. So I went on a big limd and bought it. I wasn't that suprised about it, it wasn't that good. Goldie Hawn did a pretty good job. The actor for the husband was a little pradictable. The ending was a suprise, but all in all a pretty good movie.
Is The Movie On The DVD Shown In Widescreen Or is It Pan And Scan?
Deceived is a great movie and it ius one of my favorite Goldie Hawn movies. Most of Goldie's movies have been comedies but this is a dramatic mystery and suspense movie and Goldie is very good as a wife who's husband is not who he appears to be and when he apparently dies in a car accident she begins to discover some facts about him that are really shocking. John Heard plays the husband and he is very good and so is Ashley Peldon as their little daughter Mary and she is absolutely adorable!. I had this movie on video tape and when I found out it was on DVD I gave my video tape way because I wanted to buy the DVD but I have held off buying it because Amazon is not giving the information about the aspect ratio on wether it's a widescreen format on the DVD or an edited pan and scan format. I like widescreen fomats on my DVDs and I don't want to buy this DVD and find out it's a stupid edited pan and scan DVD! Can someone please tell me what the aspect ratio of the DVD is? is it Widescreen or pan and scan?
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
This is the best performance of Goldie Hawn, it's really unfortunate she didn't win an award for this movie!
Theresa Russell seduces rich men by conforming to their dreams in terms of appearance and behaviour, marries them, and then kills them. She thinks her means are undetectable. But Justice Department investigator Debra Winger has noticed a pattern, and becomes obsessed with tracking Russell down. She follows her to Hawaii (where she is working on her latest target), befriends her, and the stage is set for a psychological chess game.
The idea is promising, but the execution is uninspired. There is too much time spent on pretty pictures of Hawaii, and the narrative lacks drive, eroticism or real suspense. We are told that the two characters are obsessed, but aren't properly shown that they are, or even why they are. Finally, the resolution is particularly unconvincing.

Not short on murder, mayhem, or any other screwball '70s conventions, Foul Play is a wonderful vehicle for Goldie Hawn. She plays Gloria, a librarian "ready to take a chance again," who ends up the target of an assassination ring. Chevy Chase, fresh off of Saturday Night Live, does the closest thing to real acting he would ever achieve (okay, maybe Fletch) as Tony, the cop assigned to protect Gloria. Dudley Moore made an indelible impression on American audiences as Stanley Tibbets, a surprisingly kinky symphony conductor. But it's the quirky things that make this film: the grandmothers playing Scrabble with expletives, Burgess Meredith's snake Esme, the old Japanese couple in the back of the careening limo. From the opening credits with Barry Manilow crooning the... Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell got together on Swing Shift--and if that's the main reason people know about this movie, it only has itself to blame. The film has a marvelous subject (women's changing status on the home front during World War II), a hugely attractive cast, and a sympathetic director, Jonathan Demme, whose previous film, Melvin and Howard, had been a splendid piece of Americana. Yet despite this, it feels disjointed. Goldie goes to work at a factory when her husband (Ed Harris) goes off to war; Russell works there too, and they find each other, well, riveting. With the movie wavering between romance and feminist consciousness-raising, the field is open for Oscar®-nominated Christine Lahti, who sparkles as Goldie's lanky, wisecracking best friend.... The teaming of Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn would seem to have been sure-fire casting, but Housesitter's writing is never strong enough to sustain it and the film's hit-and-miss quality has more misses than hits. Martin plays an architect who builds his dream house for his high school sweetheart (Dana Delany), then surprises her with a marriage proposal--both of which she rejects. Distraught, he goes back to New York and pours out his heart to a woman he meets in a bar and beds (Hawn), not realizing she is a flaky con artist. She knows a good thing when she hears it and heads for his hometown, moves into the empty dream house, and begins passing herself off as Martin's new wife. Though the writers build in a variety of complications (involving Delany, as well as Martin's parents... Tom Berenger stars as an amnesiac who investigates his life before a car wreck took his memory, and finds that things were not all they should have been. The promising mystery gets less interesting as the script becomes more perfunctorily complicated, and a crucial plot twist toward the end throws the story onto a different track rather than letting the existing one grow richer through better characters. People don't count as much as surprises do in this film, so in that sense Shattered is a passable potboiler, no more and no less. Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) capably directs, but even he can't work depth into the margins. Solid supporting performances from Greta Scacchi, Bob Hoskins, and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Tom Berenger - Bob Hoskins Director(s): Wolfgang Petersen DVD Release Date: Released the 03 June 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours
