The acting was horrible. I could not follow the plot, the story line was pathetic and oh dear lord those two never ever should attempt at hillbilly accents because they suck at it.
Eye-Opener Movie
I saw this on TV last night for the first time and it definitely captured my attention. I would definitely recommend it for those who like drama - but also to make you aware of what can happen when there is abuse and neglect involved. I agree with one of the previous posts that it is really the adults (i.e. parents) who should be accountable with these kind of circumstances.
Although I was under the impression that this move is based on a true story, fortunately I wasn't able to find any evidence that the state of Oklahoma actually executed a 15-year old girl. If that had been the case - I would think the prosecuter should be brought up on charges too.
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
This is a "two thumbs up" movie. I cannot praise this movie enough. This story is about a young girl, abandoned (emotionally, physically, psychologically, economically, not only by her mother, but also her stepfather, who sexually abused her).
She then meets a young man, who, like the rest, also abandons her. She is left by herself and her survival instincts. This young woman, played by Juliette Lewis, goes to the top in her role as a troubled teenage girl.
She needs help and a man, played by Brad Pitt, befriends her. His intentions are to hustle this young girl and make the money. He goes so far as getting her on drugs. He is a man "without" a conscience.
A murder takes place, she is tried as an adult. Her attorney, this man can play the part very, very well. I applaud his performance. He raises a very deep, thought-provoking and challenging question, in search of REASON. He asks "HOW DID WE GET HERE?"
This young girl is just that, a girl; she also is hurt with no one one by her side; she has been sexually exploited; she has been pushed to do things with total disregard for her childhood innocence; she is drugged up with no regard for who she will become or what will become of her; she commits a crime without truly knowing or understanding what she did.......DEEP.
I would highly recommend this movie to all legal professionals, lawyers, social workers, probation officers, teachers, parents.
It is a very complex movie to truly understand. I mean to deeply understand what happened and what is going to happen. "how did we get here," is beyond comprehension.
David Duchovny is a blocked author with a fascination for outlaw killers who hatches a plan to road trip through America's mass-murder landmarks to finish his book. He enlists his frustrated photographer girlfriend Michelle Forbes, who desperately wants to leave the East Coast for L.A., to illustrate the tome, and they advertise for riding partners. Luckily for them, they wind up with a veteran killer, the greasy trailer-park ex-con Brad Pitt, who decides to skip parole with his cowering child-woman girlfriend Juliette Lewis. Duchovny is enamored by gun-toting Pitt's recklessness and lawless disregard for, well, everything; he's simultaneously terrified and thrilled by Pitt's brutal beating of a barfly. Meanwhile, Pitt's leaving a trail of corpses in their wake.
Any movie starring Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford has got to be worth seeing, right? That's as close to a guarantee as this well-meaning thriller ever gets, however, and the talents of Pitt and Ford are absolutely vital in making any sense out of this dramatically muddled scenario. Ostensibly the movie's about an IRA terrorist (Pitt) who escapes from British troops in Belfast and travels to New York City, where he stays in the home of a seasoned cop (Ford) who has no idea of the terrorist's true identity. (Why a veteran cop would host a complete stranger in his home is one of those shaky details you're better off not thinking about.) But while Pitt's passionate character waits to make an arms deal for his IRA compatriots back in Ireland, The Devil's Own conveniently avoids any... Let me start by suggesting that you buy, not rent, this movie, because you might well find it too silly at first, then you'll surprise yourself with the urge to watch it over and over again. Yes, with a plot that's nothing better than a good episode of "Three's Company", the cast and crew deserved all the credits to make "The Favor" one of the most entertaining comedies reflecting various facets of love and marriage. Except for Elizabeth McGovern (who shines in almost every role given to her, especially in "Men & Women, Stories of Seduction"), other actors seemed to deliver their best performances here: Harley Jane Kozak, Bill Pullman, Larry Miller, the Orti sisters... I give this film 5 stars, one of which goes to the screenplay that's full of hilarious one-liners, so wisely interwoven... Part road movie, part romantic comedy, part thriller, and a whole lotta fun, The Mexican could get by on star power alone, but it offers Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and a clever plot full of delightful surprises. It's a thoroughly enjoyable shaggy-dog story in which the downtrodden Jerry Welbach (Pitt) copes with a dual dilemma: his girlfriend Samantha (Roberts) has just dumped him to pursue solo ambitions in Las Vegas, and a manipulative mobster has ordered Jerry to Mexico to retrieve a coveted antique pistol (the "Mexican" of the title) that carries a legacy of legend, death, and danger. Jerry soon has his hands full with bandits, bloodshed, and a grizzly hound dog that vanishes and reappears with amusing regularity. En route to Vegas, Samantha's taken hostage by a burly...
