Garnet is the heroine, a young family doctor who recently lost her husband to a death-ride on a rodeo bull. She is tired of her father-in-law and other people in her picturesque town of Sweetwater, CO, being tired of HER unhappiness. Out of desperation she hires a "boyfriend" from an escort agency, and tells him to sweep her off her feet whenever they're in public to convince everyone they're seriously involved.
While the premise was appealing, the reality was a bit more mottled. Garnet, as both doctor and grieving wife, I found less than convincing. Claiming to have no interest in romance, she nevertheless behaves in an immature and needy, please-love-me-come-hither manner. She treats her long-suffering hiree with disdain, even while availing herself fully (and I do mean fully) of his "services", (calling him a "prostitute", for example, even when later she crawls under the covers with him, wearing lingerie and claiming all she wants is a snuggle... hmm).
The movie seems to be all about what the lad can do for her, a grief-stricken, lonely, beautiful, inconsistent and at times selfish woman... while she offers him little in return except verbal abuse. I'd say Garnet still has some serious growing up to do.
I don't recommend this movie. Perhaps there's good messages in it about moving on from grief and loving again, but they could have been done in a classier way.
Brett takes your breath away
If I was going to hire an escort he is the one I would want. Penelope and Brett made a great couple. Her father -in- law wanted her to date again after losing her husband on a bucking bull. She has to convince him she has a boyfriend so he quits sending every eligible bachelor in town to her office. Brett shows up and steals the show. He stands up to her father -in-law and wins the respect of the whole town.
This is an excellent movie.
Feel Good Romance
I was really pleased to find this movie on DVD. I had seen "The Hired Heart" on TV years ago and really enjoyed the character development, good acting and appealing cinematography. It is a simple "Feel Good" movie. After a busy day at the office (then) or a hectic day at home with my one year old (now), it is great to watch something you can just enjoy! Thank-you!
This would have been a good movie it they would have left out the language. We didn't make it to the end of the movie to see how many foul words were used and the extremitity of the language. I wanted a movie with a good plot but without the language no matter how mild to some. It would have been a good movie it the language was left off. Writer/director Michael Landon Jr. continues in his famous father's footsteps by creating moral family entertainment set in the early days of the American prairie. Stubborn Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy) travels west with her new husband--but after they find a beautiful patch of land, her husband dies in an accident before they've even started building. A man named Clark (Dale Midkiff, Air Bud: World Pup) makes a proposal: If Marty will enter into a platonic marriage with him, he'll pay for her passage back east in the spring. What Clark needs is a mother, however temporary, for his willful tomboy daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Beyond the Prairie, Part 2). Missie fights Marty's presence fiercely while Clark, though supportive, speaks few... Set in a frontier world of bonnets and one-room schoolhouses, Love's Enduring Promise follows a headstrong young teacher named Missie (January Jones, Bandits), the daughter of Clark and Marty Davis (Dale Midkiff and Katherine Heigl) from previous prairie romance Love Comes Softly. After Clark injures himself in a woodcutting accident, the family farm is in danger of failing--until a handsome young stranger (Logan Bartholomew) helps out. Missie finds herself drawn to this man, but the intelligence and graciousness of young railroad magnate (Mackenzie Austin, How to Deal) appeals to a side of her that yearns to go beyond the hills and valleys of her childhood. What could be romantic froth becomes a quiet, well-paced, and thoughtful love story, thanks to a solid... Mixed reviews usually mean that a movie, book or CD is worth investigating. This movie is worth checking out. The hero actually is nice and the heroine has a lot to think about. She is engaged to someone whom her upper-crust family expects her to marry. However, when she meets the hero, she realizes that she doesn't love her fiance nor does she marry him. There is a twist after the heroine breaks the engagement. This movie's plot is predictable in some ways just like any other, but some of the characters are not. It's setting is international and it has a delightful edginess. What I like about this movie, also, is that the characters could be for real and not just some body that looks good on screen. They are not Hollywood's ideal for movies. One can really identify and empathize with... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Bobby Roth DVD Release Date: Released the 25 November 2003 Special Order
