    Review(s): DVD The Gate
    Great movie, awful DVD

First of all: I LOVE this movie.

Now let's go to the DVD edition:

AWFUL 1:33 aspect ratio, grainy picture, shaddy and tons of compression blocks.

Extras: trailer (ok) and a cheap still gallery. Very poor, I know it's too much asking for a 'Making Of' for a movie like this, but....

Sound: English Stereo. No Subtitles in ANY language. VERY POOR.

The best thing of this DVD is the cover. Nothing else.

Conclusion: If you are and horror fanatic, and you like this movie, search for a german edition under a collection called 'Extreme'. It has a remastered picture, original Widescreen ratio and dolby english sound 2.0 track. Pretty good edition, it only lacks of extras and subtitles.

This one sucks, I only give3 stars 'cause this movie ROCKS. But this DVD is truly, truly cheap and dissapointing.

    When I was young....

I saw this movie. The things that sitck out for me is the Barbie doll to the eye and the dead workers in the wall. It has a cult-flick feeling to it. And for some reason I'll always love this flick.

    Made me dig for gold!!!

After I saw this film, I went in my backyard and tried digging, then my mom yelled at me. Now I'm older and I am going to order this DVD. The movie is awesome, it's a classic in my mind.

    Troll/Troll 2 DVD

'Troll' is a fun story about an evil magical creature who impersonates a little girl in order to infiltrate a San Francisco apartment building and convert it, room by room, into its own horrid realm. A great cast (including Michael Moriarity, Sonny Bono, Shelley Hack, Julia Louise Dreyfus, June Lockhart & Anne Lockhart) make the zany characters and broad humor work in creating an entertaining film. The 'sequel' has nothing to do with the original; it does not even involve the same creature. The 'sequel' is about city folk who vacation in a countryside of goblins who want to turn them into plants so they can eat them. (huh?) The sequel is quite bad, but the DVD is worth buying just for 'Troll'. More Info about this DVD

    Critters DVD

Without a doubt this is one of those fluke hits in the 80's. I mean you have hair ball monsters that can eat just about anything, rolling around, and man-handling a farm. Its stupid beyond anything yes, but it also maintained a horror element. Something that diffenly would get lost on the rest of the movies in the series. Few people will tell you the sequel was better than the first, but personally i liked the 2nd one better. This though is still dang good, but nothing like the epic fight that would be in the next movie. So get the dvd and enjoy a movie that was made when movies were good. They could tell a story, entertain....without the overblown and sometimes embarassing effects of CGI now. More Info about this DVD

    Ghoulies/Ghoulies II DVD

MGM has done an admirable job for this new Double Feature DVD. It contains both Ghoulies and Ghoulies 2, both presented in Animorphic Widescreen with their original theatrical trailers. The picture and sound are as good as we're ever going to see these two films on DVD. A great value, even if you only wish to buy it for one of the movies.

GHOULIES was an early release from Charles Band and Empire Pictures, predating the later Full Moon Pictures. The budget was fairly low for the mid-1980's, but it is still an enjoyable late-night film.

GHOULIES 2 was the sequel and probably had a little larger budget. It featured more talented actors (Royal Dano, Phil Fondacaro, Starr Andreeff, Sasha Jenson) and the Ghoulies are a little more animate than in the original movie. On a whole it is better... More Info about this DVD

    Munchies DVD

I can't believe that guy figured out I'm not the real M. Night Shyamalan. I did, however, direct "The Sixth Sence" a movie about a couple of college students who travel about Japan looking for the perfect Japanese "Sence" Disco house. When they arrive at the sixth one that night, they all flip out upon realizing that it's filled with clones of Martin Short. IN the end, there's a bloodbath when Rip Taylor arrives in Nagasaka witha barrel of hydrochloric acid and douses the clones. Give it a try, you won't regret it! More Info about this DVD

    Poltergeist DVD

What a combo! Tobe Hooper, the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, teamed up with family-oriented producer Steven Spielberg to make Poltergeist. The film is about a haunted suburban tract home in a development very much like the Arizona one in which Spielberg was raised. (Because it came out the same summer as Spielberg's E.T., it was tempting to see both movies as representing Spielberg's ambivalent feelings about childhood in suburbia. One was a fantasy, the other a nightmare.) Spielberg also cowrote the screenplay, which taps into primal, childlike fears of monsters under the bed, monsters in the closet, sinister clown faces, and all manner of things that go bump in the night. At first, some of the odd happenings in the house are kind of funny and amusing,... More Info about this DVD
