Review(s): DVD Bulldog Drummond in Africa
    The series is charming

I enjoy all the Bulldog Drummond movies, no matter who is playing the lead, no matter who is playing the chief of police, Drummond's family friend. His butler Tenny is worth the price of any of these films.

This particular film shocked me in that it takes Drummond and his crew to Morocco, which is portrayed as a sophisticated locale, and very European. The European feel surprised me especially in comparison to other films made at this time which portray jungles with pitch black savages and rampaging wild animals.

If you are a fan of old black and white films, then you have probably heard of this series. I recommend this film for collectors.

    Bulldog Drummond Escapes DVD

Yes, they are both B grade films with low production values, but both show the real strength of Hollywood, when even their second string efforts have something. I doubt if Hollywood could put out a film with such effortless ease now. Ray Milland plays a somewhat daffy Bulldog Drummond, while John Howard is lot sterner. Both films rattle along with dastardly and bearded villans. I liked them both. More Info about this DVD

    Bulldog Drummond's Peril DVD

This film will appeal only to those who really enjoy B movies from the 1930's. Put out by Congress Films, this is a real low budget flick that will have you snoring by the second reel. It seems that someone has stolen one of Bulldog Drummond's wedding presents, and in the process killed a man guarding all the gifts. Bulldog (John Howard)leaves his bride-to-be to get the gift back. From here on the movie doesn't get any better. "Bulldog Drummond's Revenge" is a better selection in the series. Better yet, opt for Monogram Picture's "Mr Wong, Detective" starring Boris Karloff which is a nicer effort and actually has a tricky ending. More Info about this DVD
