In the opening minutes of Coffy, Pam Grier's star-making role, she blasts the skull of a sleazy drug pusher into pulp like a watermelon and shoots his junkie assistant with an overdose of heroin. Jack Hill knows how to open a movie, and he never lets up on the down-and-dirty action. Coffy is an emergency room nurse by day and vigilante by night, targeting the dealers who made her sister a comatose junkie. She works her way up to the Italian mobsters muscling into the ghetto drug trade while she's romanced by glib, smooth-talking politician Booker Bradshaw and wooed by nice-guy cop William Elliot, whose refusal to sell out to the corrupt force earns him a crippling beating.
There's plenty of sex, a catty girl-fight that leaves the losers topless, and car chases and... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Pam Grier - Booker Bradshaw Director(s): Jack Hill DVD Release Date: Released the 26 December 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

I hadn't seen this movie in 24 years. I was ten years old when it came out on Hollywood Home Theatre (precurser to HBO), and I had to sneak downstairs to watch it. Margaux Hemingway had the most alluring charm combined with an incredible sex appeal. And her wonderful on-screen relationship with her sister only sealed the deal. The movie has a very graphic scene in it, but it isn't nearly as bad as anything considered 'mere' entertainment by today's standards. The obsession that takes place in the movie is very real and incredibly well-acted. Also, Ann Bancroft's interjects an amazing presence before ever appearing on the screen. I saw a preview for some of Mariel's current work and the first thing that popped into my head was 'Lipstick', so I bought it and watched it again. You will love... Perhaps best known for its faux Springsteen soundtrack, the 1983 Eddie and the Cruisers is a rock lover's fantasy run wild. The story finds a reporter (Ellen Barkin) tracking down rumors of an unreleased album by a band whose charismatic leader (Michael Paré) allegedly died years before. As she approaches surviving members--who have since gone on to other things--she gets different points of view on Eddie's life and artistic drive, and the mystery about that album deepens. The trouble with the film is simple: it's impossible to accept. Michael Paré is far from suitable to play a Jersey shore rocker with thematic pretensions toward Rimbaud that go back to the '60s, and the soundtrack by John Cafferty sounds like a hack's rendition of E Street Band magic. An all-around... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Martin Davidson DVD Release Date: Released the 04 September 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours
