DVD The Lion King (Disney Special Platinum Edition Collector's Gift Set)
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh

The King of the Jungle
A lot is going on amongst the lion's in Africa. Upon Prince Simba's birth, his uncle Scar is pushed aside, no longer next in line to the throne. The evil Uncle seeks his revenge and plots to kill both King Mufasa and Prince Simba. But when the crime is attempted, Simba escapes. With a quick HAKUNA MATATA (No Worries) he Finds peace in exile and joining with Timon (a Meerkat) and Pumpa (a Wild Boar). But when he is relocated by a childhood lioness, she persuades him to return home, overthrow the usurper and re-claim the kingdom. Thus completing the "Circle of Life".
Timon: "We're gonna fight your uncle... for this?"
Simba: "Yes, Timon. This is my home."
Timon: "Whoa. Talk about your fixer-upper."
This film has a gorgeous color palette that masterfully changes with the story. As things get grimmer, the colors fade and die. And it is with great pleasure that the rains begin to fall when Simba finally takes his place on pride Rock: the colors return with a vengeance! The vocal work is exceptional. Most notable is James Earl Jones as the perfect father MUFASA. Matthew Broderick, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Nathan Lane and Ernie Sebella are tremendous in their talents.
The musical score by Hans Zimmer masterfully creates the musical environment that is often mistakenly credited to the Lion King 'song" writer, Elton John. John's work does get all the glory and radio play however as the "songs" (not their orchestration and atmosphere) are his.
With a storyline taken from Shakespeare and an inferior anime story, Disney produced this amazing mega-film that re-defined synergy. ie; Lion King Movie, Television Shows, Broadway Shows, Lunch Boxes, Software and theme park attractions.
The DVD is another fantastic achievement filled with great making of material as well as games and activities. But it is the stunning audio and visual transfer that keeps this DVD as the King of the Jungle.
Filled with stunning imagery and great characters, the LION KING proves that "everything the light touches is our kingdom..."

In the movie The Lion King there is a lot of action. In this movie Simba, the little cub, is learning to hunt. He is growing up. His Uncle Scar is a very bad lion. Simba runs away after the tragedy of his father's death.
You will really like this movie because I really liked it. The Lion King has drama, suspense, humor, and action. Personally, I liked the humor because the toucan sings a very funny song called "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts." I also liked the friendship between Timon, Pumba, and Simba. In the movie The Lion King there is a lot of action.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DISNEY MOVIES EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE LION KING WAS THE BEST MOVIE DISNEY EVER CAME OUT WITH! I MISSED IT IN THEATERS THE FIRST TIME B/C IT KEPT SELLING OUT BUT IT WAS SO POPULAR THEY BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE THEATERS AND THE TOYS BACK TO BURGER KING SO MY GRANDFATHER TOOK ME AND I WAS SPELLBOUND ALL THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE! IT WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE AND THE SONGS COMPOSED BY ELTON JOHN REALLY REACHED YOUR HEART.
YEARS LATER THIS REMAINS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE! THIS INTRODUCES YOU TO THE AFRICAN CUSTOMS BY OPENING WITH A SPRITUAL SONG DONE WONDERFULLY IN SWAHILI AND OTHERS FILLING IN THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE AND HAS A COUPLE OF VERY TALENTED AFRICAN AMERICANS VOICING THE LEAD ROLES: JAMES EARL JONES, WHOOPI GOLDBERG, ROBERT GUILLAME.
WE ALSO SEE A LOT OF RELIGIOUS REFERENCES WHICH WALT DISNEY WAS NOTORIOUS FOR DOING IN HIS DAYS: SCAR REPRESENTS SATAN AND THE HYENAS REPRESENT HIS FOLLOWERS, THE FALLEN ANGELS. MUFASA REPRESENTS GOD, WHO MIGHT HAVE BEEN DEFEATED BUT ROSE UP AGAIN IN HIS SON AND TRIUMPHED OVER EVIL. RAFIKI REPRESENTS A DISCIPLE, SOMEONE WHO NEVER GAVE UP HOPE AND WAS WISE BEYOND HIS YEARS, TIMON AND PUMBAA STRIKE ME A LITTLE BIT AS ATHEISTS, THE WAY THE LAUGH WHEN SIMBA EXPLAINS TO THEM ABOUT THE GREAT KINGS OF THE PAST WATCHING OVER THEM AND THEIR MISGUIDED APPROACH TO THE WORLD: WHEN THE WORLD TURNS ITS BACK ON YOU, YOU TURN YOUR BACK ON THE WORLD! NALA, SARABI AND THE LIONESSES ARE THE EQUIVALENT OF LOYAL FOLLOWERS WHO BRAVELY STAND UP TO JOIN SIMBA IN THE ULTIMATE FIGHT, WHICH COULD BE COMPARED TO JUDGMENT DAY. THERE IS A HUGE REFERENCE TO KARMA AND RESURRECTION WHEN THEY SING ABOUT THE 'CIRCLE OF LIFE'
ALONG WITH RELIGIOUS REFERENCE, THIS MOVIE IS EQUIPPED WITH SOME WISE ADVICE FOR THE VIEWERS:
SCAR: LIFE'S NOT FAIR!
ZAZU: THERE'S ONE IN EVERY FAMILY, TWO IN SOME THAT ALWAYS MANAGE TO RUIN SPECIAL OCCASIONS!
MUFASA: BEING BRAVE DOESN'T MEAN YOU GO LOOKING FOR TROUBLE, AND IT'S OKAY TO BE SCARED!
TIMON AND PUMBAA: HAKUNA MATATA!
SIMBA: DENIAL CAN BE A POWERFUL INSTRUMENT!
RAFIKI: A PERSON MIGHT BE DEAD PHYSICALLY, BUT THEIR SPIRIT STILL LIVES INSIDE OF YOU!
SIMBA: YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE PAST!
RAFIKI, YES, THE PAST CAN HURT, BUT YOU CAN EITHER RUN FROM IT OR LEARN FROM IT!
MUFASA: REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE!
SIMBA'S SURVEYING WHAT HIS HOME HAS BECOME: FACING YOUR PAST TO MOVE AHEAD IN YOUR FUTURE WON'T BE EASY, BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT!
SCAR'S DEMISE: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND THREEFOLD!
THE LUSH ANIMATION IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE STORYLINE IS VERY POWERFUL. YOU FEEL EXCITEMENT FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END AND YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF SINGING ALONG WITH THE INFECTIOUS SONGS NOT CARING HOW SILLY YOU LOOK! TRUST ME, THESE ARE THE ONLY SONGS THAT QUIETED MY FUSSY PREEMIE! TELLS YOU HOW MUCH I HAVE WATCHED THIS MOVIE LOL! THIS IS THE ULTIMATE FAMILY MOVIE FOR THE KIDS SO PLUNK YOUR MONEY DOWN, GRAB SOME POPCORN, GATHER THE YOUNGSTERS AND BE READY TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO THE WONDERFUL AND TRULY RIVETING, POIGNANT WORLD OF THE LION KING!
I GIVE THIS TEN TRILLION STARS AND INFINITY THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Director(s): John Musker - Ron Clements DVD Release Date: Released the 05 October 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

This two-disc presentation of the popular sequel delivers a better sounding DVD and looks a bit better than the initial release (although the original was pretty sharp). There are no changes in the film except a pop-up viewing mode with facts--fun and otherwise--about the film. The second disc is for the kids, including games, a cute documentary on African animals, and another installment of the Virtual Safari. This "ride" puts you in a jeep with Timon and Pumbaa as they race the jungle and pride lands bumping into various obstacles, all in booming Dolby 5.1 sound. The best extra is the new short "One by One" a modern day tale of Africa and the finest short from the studio since 2000's "John Henry." --Doug ThomasMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Matthew Broderick - Neve Campbell Director(s): Darrell Rooney - Rob LaDuca DVD Release Date: Released the 31 August 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

A delightful undersea world unfolds in Pixar's animated adventure Finding Nemo. When his son Nemo is captured by a scuba-diver, a nervous-nellie clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) sets off into the vast--and astonishingly detailed--ocean to find him. Along the way he hooks up with a scatterbrained blue tang fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), who's both helpful and a hindrance, sometimes at the same time. Faced with sharks, deep-sea anglers, fields of poisonous jellyfish, sea turtles, pelicans, and much more, Marlin rises above his neuroses in this wonderfully funny and nonstop thrill ride--rarely does more than 10 minutes pass without a sequence destined to become a theme park attraction. Pixar continues its run of impeccable artistic and economic success (their... It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening off-screen) is the centerpiece of Bambi, Walt Disney's 1942 animated classic, but it is by no means the only bold stroke in the film. In its swift but somehow leisurely 69 minutes, Bambi covers a year in the life of a young deer. But in a bigger way, it measures the life cycle itself, from birth to adulthood, from childhood's freedom to grown-up responsibility. All of this is rendered in cheeky, fleet-footed style--the movie doesn't lecture, or make you feel you're being fed something that's good for you. The animation is... From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Jodi Benson - Samuel E.
