DVD Interview With the Assassin
Bringing the Blair Witch method to the JFK assassination, Interview with the Assassin has an irresistible hook. A videographer begins filming his lean, hard-bitten neighbor, who has cancer and wants to get something off his conscience: he was the second gunman in Dallas on November 22, 1963. As the filmmaker pursues the story, it gradually dawns on him that the original conspiracy of silence is still operating... and that his own life may be in danger. First-time director Mel Burger sticks to the pseudo-documentary approach--no cheating here--and when the purported hit man strolls through some back streets in Dallas to re-visit his position on the grassy knoll, it's a truly eerie moment. Veteran character actor Raymond Barry makes the most of his role as the gunman, a laconic fellow with a chillingly matter-of-fact manner. The movie's concept may be a gimmick, but as gimmicks go, it's a humdinger. --Robert Horton
implausible and flawed, but interesting nonetheless
it's implausible that the second gunman (if there was one) would have been allowed to live. 'they' would have killed him just as they killed oswald. it would've been too dangerous to do otherwise. what happened in this film proves the point. so a so-called story of the assassin really is pure fiction, even if there was a conspiracy to kill jfk. the film itself is also a little flawed. even after the marine co died (or was killed), there was still the would-be assassin's shooting buddy who could have corroborated the claims. he didn't have to attempt to kill the pres to prove his point.
still, an interesting film. worth a rental, at least.
Great Historical Fiction Drama
Judging by the reviews, it would seem many people have fiction and historical reality confused. This is a work of historical fiction. The best fiction is based on real events. Walter Ohlinger is just a character and this movie, though filmed to look like it's a documentary, is really just a story written and directed by Neil Burger. Burger was in Texas interviewing WW II vets when he met a man in a bar who claimed that he knew people involved in the Kennedy assassination. They conversed briefly and then the man left. Neil never saw him again; but this eerie conversation served as the backdrop for this story.
Walter Ohlinger (Raymond Barry), an ex-marine forced recon sniper, comes forward nearly forty years after JFK's assassination to claim that he was the Grassy Knoll assassin. He's dying of cancer and is tired of hiding. He enlists his neighbor Ron Kobeleski (Dylan Haggerty), a cameraman for KXBC News to film his confession. When Ron asks Walter for proof, he produces the shell casing for the single shot he fired from the knoll. Ron asks the lab tech to find out what year the bullet was fired and the tech comes back with a plus or minus five-year answer. This was the only problem I saw in the film. The lab can't tell exactly when a bullet was fired even within a five-year range. Ammunition can be traced according to lot number and the date of manufacture can be found but that doesn't mean that bullet was fired within that five-year timeframe.
The technique of making this film look like a documentary was a smashing success adding realism to the story that would not have otherwise been there had they filmed it like a regular movie with music and canned sound effects. If you're a Kennedy buff, see the film!
Makes the JFK assassination BORING!
If you have a serious interest in the JFK assassination then DO NOT buy this movie. If you're someone who loved Oliver Stone's "JFK" movie and has seen it 20X then DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE. The producer is using the JFK assassination premise to lure you in and aside from the scenes in Dealy Plaza the movie goes nowhere. This is the most BORING film that I've ever seen associated with JFK's murder. I wouldn't have thought that could be possible. The movie doesn't even shed any fictitous light on the case and it's very unrealistic. Go rent or buy Executive Action for a clever, fictional depiction of what might have happened in Dallas forty years ago. I'll repeat, DO NOT get sucked in by the JFK assassination premise. If you do, like I did, you'll be disappointed two hours later. What a waste of $22.
Robert Groden suggests that the Zapruder film of the Kennedy Assassination has been tampered with to cover up the real killers of Kennedy. In my opinion, his "evidence" is shaky at best. Groden has made a lucrative living off of proposing alternative theories of who "really" shot Kennedy, and here he is in 2003 suggesting that there was a conspiracy to kill Kennedy despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary presented by ABC, CBS, and many books. Groden needs to finally realize that the Kennedy assassination has been solved definitively, and his continuation of conspiracy theories is clearly his lame and pathetic attempt to keep his money cash-cow alive.

This DVD would form a good companion to the movie JFK about which director Oliver Stone ADMITS that he made up facts. He now calls the movie JFK "an alternative myth". I trust that the conspiracy industry knows what the word "myth" means! Oliver now says that he used "dramatic licence" in making the film. This can also be said of this documentary as the man that made this also was an adviser on the JFK film. Why do we have so many documetaries like this? The answer is money for it has become a money-making industry. We have had others-like those that claim Elvis is still alive, the ridiculous Moon landing conspiracy documentaries, the Nostradamus documentaries that told us the world was going to end in 1999 and so on. As long as some people are gullible, then this sort of rubbish... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Robert J. Groden DVD Release Date: Released the 14 October 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours

The first six chapters of The Men Who Killed Kennedy is a must read before viewing chapters seven , eight and nine. I do agree with another reviewer in respect to this series lacking cohesion. However, I consider this "brainstorming" in a way and a chance to see all the theories out there. Who did it and who covered it up will be explained in the remaining three chapters. The Zapruder film sets the stage for everything to follow. From the Zapruder film, we know that Kennedy was shot from the front. Since the Parkland Doctors also confirm this , we are sure there was a cover up since the autopsy photos show no rear exit wound. These facts are enough to conclude we were not told the truth and one could just stop there. I guess what many people are asking is the government to finally... first of all, i got pretty hyped when i heard that ABC was going to cover the Kennedy assassination, hoping that for once, SOMEBODY would cover the FACTS, but once again, i was proved wrong.
from the start, Peter Jennings states it clear, that those who believe that a conspiracy to kill JFK are flat out WRONG!
and that was it for me. althought the program did have some pretty neat computer graphics and animation, the whole programs was BIASED and WRONG. they based all of their information on once again, as the Warren Commission did, in trying to PROVE the single bullet theory. again and again, they showed graphics to prove the single bullet, and ONLY ONCE, through out the ENTIRE show, did they ever mention the head shot and why it snapped back and to the left.
