  • DVD Biker Boyz (Full Screen Edition)

When it's revved up to maximum rpm's, Biker Boyz qualifies as an adequate knockoff of The Fast and the Furious. Both films were inspired by magazine articles about speed-freak outlaws on the streets of California, only this time the nitrous-enhanced "rice rockets" are of the two-wheeled variety, and Smoke (Laurence Fishburne) is the reigning "King of Cali," leading a predominantly African American subculture that schedules illegal motorcycle races with high stakes and potentially lethal outcomes. Kid (Derek Luke, the promising newcomer from Antwone Fisher) is the latest challenger, facing off against Dogg (Kid Rock) and others before coming to terms with his own familial destiny. Following his incisive HBO debut, Dancing in September, director Reggie Rock Bythewood approached Biker Boyz as a modern Western, but it's really just a strutter's ball with polished chrome and tailpipes. Meagan Good, Lisa Bonet, and Vanessa Bell Calloway provide sexy feminine wisdom, badly needed in a movie that's all flash and precious little substance. --Jeff Shannon

    Not a thrill ride

I had high hopes for this movie just based on the folks attached to it -- Lawrence Fishburne, Derek Luke, Orlando Jones ( who I never liked before Drumline), Vanessa Bell Calloway and Reggie Bythewood behind the camera. I don't know anything about bikes or riding, but the movie seemed like it would be an entertaining bit of drama. It wasn't. It was just too slow and was hampered by uninspired dialogue. I think the actors did a good job with what they had to work with, but this was a bad movie. Luke is the stereotypical young buck rebel without a cause. Fishburne is the old dawg trying to fend off the youngsters. And I agree with one of the previous reviewers that the ending is totally anticlimatic.

I'm only giving it two stars because of the stunt scenes.

I wish I never saw it...

When the movie started I was excited, I love bikes. But as this movie kept playing I was trying real hard to ignore the bad dialogue. Then the really bad acting. and then it just went down hill from there. I really tried to understand this movie. But I can't get nothing out of this. and I want the minutes I spent trying to watch this movie back. lol. This was really dissapointing.

    movie could have been better

The movie could have been better if there was more races, and stunts. I dindnt like the fact that they had put all the love scenes. They should have stuck with more races and stunts. I am a motorcycle enthusiast and have an 03 Cbr F4i. I could have made a better movie with my video camera at bike nights here in los angeles. The cast played the characters well in the movie. I rate the movie poor but enjoy watching the motorcycle scenes

2 Fast 2 Furious (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Like the high-revving imports and American muscle cars that roar down the streets of its south Florida setting, 2 Fast 2 Furious is tricked out to the max. While Vin Diesel opted for his XXX franchise, this obligatory sequel to The Fast and the Furious benefits from Diesel's absence, allowing returning star Paul Walker to shine while forging a lively partnership with rising star Tyrese, who fulfills his sidekick duties with more vitality than Diesel could ever muster. The Miami/Dade locations are another bonus, lending colorful backdrop to the most dazzling street-racing sequences (both real and digitally composited) ever committed to film. The plot is disposable--former cop Walker and jailbird Tyrese are recruited by the FBI to dethrone a thuggish kingpin (Cole... More Info about this DVD

    S.W.A.T. (Widescreen Special Edition) DVD

Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell swagger through S.W.A.T., a guns-and-big-trucks macho extravaganza based on the 1970s TV show of the same name, about the police teams brought in to take care of extremely dangerous situations. Jackson plays a sergeant brought out of retirement to form a new squad, which includes rebellious Farrell (The Recruit) and tough babe Michelle Rodriguez (Girlfight, Blue Crush). After a lot of training and head-butting with a smarmy police captain, the squad gets assigned to transfer the head of a European crime cartel (Olivier Martinez, Unfaithful) who's declared on television that he'll give $100 million to anyone who gets him out. Every scumbag in Los Angeles descends to claim the money, turning a routine transfer into a... More Info about this DVD

Deliver Us From Eva (Widescreen Edition) DVD

I'm black and I generally avoid 'black' movies because they always portray us in 'da hood', smoking weed and doing absolutely nothing with our lives, and the one guy that has a chance at becoming something better always gets shot! This movie was a much needed refreshment from all of that. The entire movie was very humourous and it was awesome to see a steel-hearted woman like Eva (Gabrielle Union) show how human she really is beneath that tough exterior. It was great to see the multitalented LL Cool J have a leading role as well.

The women in this movie are strong productive members of society as are their husbands and I love seeing black people portrayed in such a positive light in comparison to what they have been shown to be in the past. It is a very good buy; I highly recommend it. More Info about this DVD

    Bad Boys II DVD

No one goes to a movie directed by Michael Bay for delicacy and grace; you go because Michael Bay (Armageddon, The Rock) knows how to make your bones rattle during a high-speed chase when a car flips over, spins through the air, and smacks another car with a visceral crunch. Bad Boys II fulfills this expectation and then some. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence may be mere puppets amid all this burning rubber and shrieking metal, but they actually provide a human core to the endless cascade of car wrecks and gunfights. Their easy rapport makes their personal problems--a running joke is Lawrence's attempts at anger management--as engaging as the sheer visual hullabaloo of bullets and explosions. The plot is recycled nonsense about drug lords and dead bodies being used... More Info about this DVD

    Torque (Widescreen Edition) DVD

A lot has changed in the biker-movie genre since Hell's Angels on Wheels, and Torque may be the new benchmark of feverish chopper action. Martin Henderson plays Cary, a speed king and relatively civilized outlaw with a knack for annoying everyone, including drug smugglers, the FBI, an ex-girlfriend, and, worst of all, biker gang leader Trey (Ice Cube), who thinks Cary killed his brother. On the run from everyone, Cary survives by playing all sides against one another. But the story is less important than the frantic, over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek action surrounding it. The Fast and the Furious producer Neal H. Moritz is responsible for this crazy, violent, yet appealingly sardonic cowboys-on-wheels piece. --Tom Keogh More Info about this DVD
