This mini-series aired in 1998, and was so moving that it literally changed my life. It brought me closer to the women in my family and is perhaps the building blocks of the feminist that I have become. I was so in love with this movie that I tried EVERYTHING to get my hands on a copy. I checked every search engine on the internet for months, wrote to the network, without a response; I wrote to the UCLA movie database, again without a response. I had given up on it years ago...only to find a copy on the highlight rack in Best Buy last week. I screamed out so loud and started crying, jumping up and down and hugging my best friend until she was ready to leave because she was so embarrassed. The point is, this movie is THAT good! It is such a tear jerker as well, that I had to call my grandmother and take out all my girlfriends for a girls night. If you are deliberating as to whether or not you should buy this movie, BUY THE MOVIE! I promise you won't regret it!

It's ridiculous how long I've waited for this DVD. I've been searching ever since the miniseries came out, and I'm relieved they finally decided to listen to fans. I found this miniseries amazing and extremely moving. Even its deviations from the original novel were well engineered. I highly recommend this movie for everyone!

I saw this mini-series on TV when it first aired. I thought is was one of the greatest movies I had ever seen, despite it's negative reviews. After it aired, I tried to get a copy of it but was unable to obtain one. When I heard it was being released on DVD, I was quite excited. This movie was just as good the second time around. It is a must see for all women, as its story is empowering.
Mixed reviews usually mean that a movie, book or CD is worth investigating. This movie is worth checking out. The hero actually is nice and the heroine has a lot to think about. She is engaged to someone whom her upper-crust family expects her to marry. However, when she meets the hero, she realizes that she doesn't love her fiance nor does she marry him. There is a twist after the heroine breaks the engagement. This movie's plot is predictable in some ways just like any other, but some of the characters are not. It's setting is international and it has a delightful edginess. What I like about this movie, also, is that the characters could be for real and not just some body that looks good on screen. They are not Hollywood's ideal for movies. One can really identify and empathize with... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Bobby Roth DVD Release Date: Released the 25 November 2003 Special Order

I just love this movie. I saw it first on the Hallmark Channel when I was channel surfing, then I purchased the DVD. Each time I've watched it, I find I like it more and more. However, I would have loved to have seen more story/character development and a little more romance, perhaps even a wedding between Tyler & Jordan (reason for 4 & not 5 stars). For instance, the scene outside the barn after Tyler has turned away & ran from Jordan, he says ".. I never expected this" It's not clear at first exactly what it is he wasn't expecting. You realize later that he never expected to fall in love with her. Would be great if a sequel follows!??? More Info about this DVD Director(s): David S. This miniseries was like a "Melrose Place" variation, set in the circles of the upper-classes. I've seen several miniseries based on some of Judith Krantz's novels. This was neither the best, nor was this my favourite. The copious violence in this miniseries film was appalling. Also, while I like Valerie Bertinelli as an actress, I found her a wee bit trying in a couple of moments. Even though the entire cast, including Ms. Bertinelli, did a convincing job, there were some low points - concerning a couple of the other principals. Perry King's obvious and over-the-top efforts at conveying evil were tiresome. Also, Francesca Annis's character - the amoral and self-centred British matriarch - & portrayal thereof are an unfortunate continuation of her tradition of roles & portrayals that... Garnet is the heroine, a young family doctor who recently lost her husband to a death-ride on a rodeo bull. She is tired of her father-in-law and other people in her picturesque town of Sweetwater, CO, being tired of HER unhappiness. Out of desperation she hires a "boyfriend" from an escort agency, and tells him to sweep her off her feet whenever they're in public to convince everyone they're seriously involved.
While the premise was appealing, the reality was a bit more mottled. Garnet, as both doctor and grieving wife, I found less than convincing. Claiming to have no interest in romance, she nevertheless behaves in an immature and needy, please-love-me-come-hither manner. She treats her long-suffering hiree with disdain, even while availing herself fully (and I do mean...
