I attempted to watch DARK DESCENT but failed. I saw enough to recognize that this seemed to be a remake of OUTLAND which in turn was a Sci-Fi translation of HIGH NOON. Both OUTLAND and HIGH NOON are classics with great casts and well crafted scripts, but DARK DESCENT is a remake of these classics only in the sense that Frankenstein's Monster is a recreation of humanity. Some of the parts are there, but you don't want to take them home. There is a lot of dialogue, none memorable, and little action. The plot pacing favors insomniacs. Sure, FIRETRAP is loaded with cliches and improbably stupid people (such as the janitor who fights the fire with a broom and opens the hazardous materials door), but the movie with its CGI created fire, is an entertaining and engrossing "disaster" flick. Dean Cain who will probably always look like an overgrown boy does his role well. The biggest kudo goes to the screenwriter who decided to make a stereotypical character a little more human and realistic: James Storm's role as the owner of the company is not your typical head honcho. This movie surprized me being it was on a DVD by Good Times...usually they are not that clear and sometimes hard to understand but this is a shining example of how well they can do if they want...this DVD was super clear and the audio was super too. The only thing I wish is that for us harder of hearing folks that they would put the CC on the disc too.The movie it self is very good and I enjoyed the show alot. The acting was good and the story line was also very interesting as well. The animal actors did such a great job and as I said before the clarity of the DVD makes the scenery come alive in Alaska.
