DVD Bringing Down The House (Full Screen Edition)
The pleasingly contrasting comic styles of Queen Latifah and Steve Martin bring some energy to Bringing Down the House, a hopelessly formulaic comedy. Martin plays Peter, an uptight lawyer too obsessed with work to spend quality time with his kids. Into his life comes Queen Latifah as Charlene, an escaped convict who threatens to wreck his relationship with a wealthy but arch-conservative client (Joan Plowright, in high dudgeon) if Peter won't take up her case. Of course, Latifah's exuberant ways enchant his kids and bring out a looser, livelier side of Peter, all in a series of scenes so standard they hardly register. Thank goodness for Eugene Levy; as one of Peter's law partners with a taste for Charlene's bodacious brand of sexy, Levy's ingenious transformation from nebbish to loverman is the movie's secret weapon, stealthily planting comic explosions amidst the modest rice-krispie-crackle of the stale plot. --Bret Fetzer

Steve Martin is not funny anymore
When exactly did he lose it? OK I like Cheaper By The Dozen, but so much for him. In many of his recent movies, he's being held up by other cast members, so viewers will practically ignore him, and like the rest of the film. Here, Queen Latifah carries the film, and she does it brilliantly. I wasn't sure whether I'd like her as an actress or not - hence, it took me two tries to watch this film, the first time I watched it, I switched it off after 20 minutes.
This time it fared a little better, and I managed to sit right the way through it. Queen Latifah is basically the best thing about this, and Eugene Levy also, but he's seriously underused, and almost sleazy? There's a very cringe-worthy moment, where Steve pretends to be a rapper - every stereotype he uses. The really baggy clothes, the chains, the language that no one else can understand the hand movements. If you thought Steve Martin still had a sense of humour, and could make people laugh, then watch that scene alone. It's embarrassing, and makes you want to switch off the film. For future reference Steve: NO!
This film yields no surprises, and is the same as many other films out there. The storyline has been done before: a straight-laced, uptight career-minded person, is taken off the straight & narrow by a wild, just out of jail person. How many times does this have to be done? It shouldn't have been a hit this movie, and should have quietly slipped under the radar of your usual cinema goers.
After years of loving Steve Martin in the two Father Of The Bride films (yes, I own them), I'm disappointed to say, he's lost it, and will probably never get it back. Sorry. It's an alright film to pass the time with, if you can get past the first half hour, which is so boring.
Excellent!
I am a Queen Latifah fan. I will watch anything that she is in. I think she is great. The movie was good and clean. If you are not one for the violence, sex and cursing, but want humor, this is a good movie to see.
The FUNNIEST movie ever, ever ever! (in my opinion)
This movie is a rare gem! you get the classic Steve Martin feel with the theme music and family, but you get an extra surprise that makes it hilarious and fun to watch all the time.
Queen Latifah is great in this movie and so is Eugene Lavy (although he gets annoying at times)
Before I start, this movie uses some typical played out movie ideas that some may be sick of.
Steve martin, or Peter Sanderson meets a woman from the internet and it turnes out shes black and not what he thought. Queen Latifah, or Charlene helps the family in many ways, such as the task of helping Peter get his wife back and doing better with his children.
Yes, a typical happy ending, but is makes your day.
There is also so many racial jokes and I find them hilarious, but if your offended easily, don't watch it! In my opinion its a great family film, but some wouldnt agree. MUST HAVE! :-)

Bumbling cop Washburn (Jimmy Fallon) is a terrible driver who loses his license and so recruits reluctant Belle (Queen Latifah) and her souped-up mega-cab after he stumbles onto a team of supermodel bank robbers. Several klutzy encounters and high-speed car chases ensue. If this sounds to you like the obvious result of a Hollywood pitch session ("Hey, let's pair some guy from Saturday Night Live with a tough-talking African-American and set them after babes on wheels!"), you're right; it doesn't mean, however, that you won't get in a few decent laughs before director Tim (Barbershop) Story's amiable time-killer falls into a steaming pile of would-be blockbuster buddy film cliches. The ever-ingratiating Latifah has long since proved her star charisma, and Fallon does an... There are some good laughs to be found in Daddy Day Care, especially if you're a preschooler with energy to burn. This romper-room comedy shamelessly exploits its high concept idea--dropping Eddie Murphy into a seething den of rugrats--but kids will have plenty of vicarious fun as Murphy and his fellow laid-off colleague (Jeff Garlin) battle unemployment by opening a day-care center in Eddie's home. In partial Witches mode, Anjelica Huston hams it up as a day-care competitor bent on closing Eddie down, while doofus extraordinaire Steve Zahn is recruited as a third partner in "Daddy Day Care," trying his best to entertain a pack of hyperactive kids who've stopped taking their Ritalin. Zahn makes a funny Star Trek fan (even when the script contains bogus Trekkie... With enough lively banter to keep its customers happy for years, Barbershop is a loose, lanky comedy with its heart--and its humor--in all the right places. Ice Cube plays Calvin, reluctant heir to his late father's barbershop on Chicago's South Side--a neighborhood institution that seems like a trap for a guy with bigger dreams. But Calvin is devoted to his employees and local customers, and when he makes an ill-considered deal with a loan shark (Keith David), the future of the barbershop hangs in the balance. There's a goofy subplot involving a stolen cash machine, but what gives Barbershop its abundant charm is its compassionate, feel-good vibe for its likable characters--not just scene-stealer Cedric the Entertainer (as Eddie the veteran barber, whose shaving lesson is a... Ice Cube triumphantly returns as Calvin Palmer, proud proprietor of a neighborhood barbershop in Barbershop 2. The first Barbershop was a surprise smash; even more surprising is how good this sequel is. The plot isn't much--there's a corporate haircutting chain opening across the street, leading to the usual sentiments about the importance of small businesses and neighborhoods--but the well-conceived characters and the loose, genuine banter give this movie a striking richness of feeling. Barbershop 2 cuts back and forth in time, flashing back to when Eddie (garrulous Cedric the Entertainer), the shop's oldest and most outspoken barber, first came to work for Calvin's father. Glimpses of black history give weight to the modern-day struggles; most... Despite the far-fectched plot and random happenings throughout this movie, it was still a comedic genius. Chris Rock is truly one of the funniest men ever, and this is one of his funniest movies. I reccomend it to anyone who wants a good laugh.
This movie is about a black Washington DC alderman (Chris Rock) who is chosen to run for President and lose. Together, him and his running-mate/brother (the always funny Bernie Mac) set out to foil the people he is running for and acually win. Well I'm not telling you the outcome, but this movie is hilarious and inspired. SEE IT NOW FOR A HUGE BARREL OF BELLY-LAUGHS!...
