    Hard to Watch

The first 30 minutes of this movie are great. Rick is cute and funny as his character is locked out of his dressing room and mobbed by adoring fans. The concert scenes are TERRIFIC and having seen Rick in concert many times I enjoyed them very much. Unfortunately, after the requisite "beefcake shot" of Rick, the plot of the movie slides downhill into Bad Soap Opera Land.

Rick CAN act and I have seen him give some amazing performances. That said, this movie doesn't show his skills in the best light. Mostly because the writing is HORRID but also because his co-star (Janet Eiber) is not much of an actress. Rick does his best, but he's left hanging by a bad script and a lame director.

Now, if you're looking for some great Rick Springfield tunes, then this movie won't disappoint you in that respect. The soundtrack should have won a Grammy. There are fantastic songs from Rick (one of my personal favorites "Stand Up" is fun and energetic and the hit "Love Somebody" is terrific concert footage), and other very good artists contribute including Peter Gabriel.

My advice is skip the DVD and buy the soundtrack on CD. A much better investment.

    Great

I have loved Rick Springfield and this movie since it first was released. I was thrilled when I found it at Amazon and was able to buy it. It may not be a Oscar winning movie, but it is a great rock -n- roll story!

This Movie Should Be Called "Hard To Watch!!!"

In this movie Rick Springfield plays a Rock Star who crashes into Janet Eilber's car one night. She finds this to be excruiatingly funny. I don't know why. Perhaps she was ingesting some illicit substances at the time? Then her and Rick have a night of lustful passion and she asks him to leave in the early hourfs of the morning. He protests saying that they have just "made love" whereas she points out to him that they "just had sex". I realize that in the Real World it is usualy the man who makes this distinction. Janet works as a Child Psychologist but is such an Emotional Cripple herself that she can't say "I love you " to Rick. Once again I realize it is usually the man in Real Life who has this difficulty. Perhaps Janet is emotionally scarred by having been raised by a drunkard. I give this movie 5 stars because I kind of like Ms. Eilber although sometimes she reminds me of a skinny girafee on stilts.

I remember when this video came out on VHS in 1985 I rented it numerous times back then I couldn't afford to buy it. I never thought I would give this concert less than 5 stars but seeing him again in concert in 2002 has truly been an eye opening experience. I updated all my old tapes with CD's and have been looking for this particular DVD. I am glad that I do have this to add to my collection but I was dissapointed in the fact that he never even talked to all the screaming fans..he was more into putting on an excellent concert and it was too choregraphed Rick seems to be somewhere else. I know I am being bold in making these statements but he didnt seem to be enjoying the stage like he does now I just see such a HUGE difference in his performances now. He is so personable and he acts... More Info about this DVD

    Nick Knight DVD

My husband rolled his eyes and laughed at me for buying this and Hard to Hold for my birthday! However, I am a HUGE Rick Springfield fan, but sorry to say that I missed this in 1989, probably because I had just graduated from high school and hardly was home to watch tv! I purchased this not only because it starred Rick, but also because it was a 'vampire making amends-Angel kinda story'. I absolutely love Angel and Buffy,(...Blade, Van Helsing, Lost Boys, Interview with a Vampire...etc) and this has such a similar storyline to Angel, I couldn't resist. Although cheesy and lacking in the special effects area at times, it's pretty good for 1989, (compared with how special effects have improved drastically since then...can you say DIGITAL?) Rick looks as GORGEOUS as ever, great butt in... More Info about this DVD
