    Review(s): DVD Exploring Vietnam
    Amateur production, but nice scenery

I agree with the previous reviewer that this is an amateur production - appears to be a husband and wife and their camcorder. There is a long segment on Thailand tacked on the beginning for some reason and the narration is flat. The dvd cuts abruptly from location to location.

The only reason we still have this DVD is that my 3-year old, who was adopted from Vietnam, requests it periodically. The scenery is nice and gives some idea of what it's like to be there but this DVD definitely should not serve as your introduction to this beautiful country.

"Exploring Vietnam" is someone's vacation put on DVD

I am writing this review to tell you that this DVD, which is barely over 30 minutes long, is someone's vacation put on DVD. The camera work is terrible and I was extremely disappointed in this DVD. The explanation of history and how the people live today is lacking in any real substance. The only saving grace of this DVD is that there are many video sequences of the scenery in Vietnam. Not recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about Vietnam

National Geographic - Vietnam's Unseen War - Pictures from the Other Side DVD

I just watched this documentary and I was impressed, the quality was outstanding! one of the best war photographer films about the war in VN ever made in my honest opinion.

*1 hour documentary with many never before seen B&W war footage of the Viet cong & NVA very good narration and interviews with actual combat photographers that took these photos over 30 years ago.
*12 picture stills from the book with narration
*bonus 30 minute film called the Decending Dragon about a Vietnamese woman who goes back to VN after 26 years and interviews the people where many of these photos were taken during the war.
    *Biography of photographers

total running time is actually about an hour and a half with the bonus documentary
I would highly recommend this... More Info about this DVD

Travel the World By Train: Asia DVD

Beginning amid the Buddhist temples of Myanmar, the railroad odyssey featured in Travel the World by Train: Asia takes the viewer aboard trains in six nations in Southeast Asia before leaping to Beijing, where the final leg of the trip is an amazing 5,700-mile jaunt through China and across Kazakhstan to the final destination of Moscow. This video often leaves the rail route for side trips to temple ruins and other equally startling sights in the countries along the way, and the footage of scenery as well as of trains is always professional and often quite striking. The trip through Vietnam, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, aboard the Reunification Express surprises with its appreciation for the natural beauty of the Vietnamese countryside. The video really doesn't offer much... More Info about this DVD

The Vertical Ray of the Sun DVD

The lush, super-chic ambience of Tran Anh Hung's third feature, The Vertical Ray of the Sun, presents a beckoning, irresistible vision of Vietnam. The film opens with a sexy brother and sister waking up to the sound of Lou Reed's laconic voice on the stereo. They stretch, practice tai chi, meander toward a late breakfast, and playfully flirt with each other. This morning ritual--slightly disturbing but mostly alluring--recurs as a quietly resistant motif to the disappointment that awaits each character introduced. Shot on location in an impossibly hued Hanoi (lime green and chartreuse abound), the film trails after three beautiful sisters during the month that separates the anniversaries of the deaths of their mother and father. Attempting to protect the ideal memory of their... More Info about this DVD
