    Twins
Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger as fraternal twin brothers? Hey, why not? This delightful 1988 comedy by Ivan Reitman--about genetically designed twin siblings who discover each other at the age of 35--works out just fine, thanks largely to great chemistry between the two stars. Despite a certain amount of rough action and tension, the film really gets a lift from the palpable innocence Reitman develops, and the female costars (Chloe Webb and Kelly Preston) bring some interesting texture of their own. This is a film that walked the tightrope of a high concept and completely succeeded. To see how easy it is to stumble in a similar situation, check out DeVito and Schwarzenegger in Reitman's Junior. --Tom Keogh

    Kindergarten Cop
Arnold Schwarzenegger made a successful transition to comedy with this 1990 box-office hit directed by Ivan Reitman. Arnold plays an undercover cop whose attempt to locate a little boy and his mother leads him to a small-town kindergarten class, where he poses as a teacher while continuing his investigation. He's also trying to catch a vicious drug dealer (Richard Tyson), whose ex-wife and son are the pair that Arnold's trying to rescue from impending danger. The scenes featuring Arnold and a classroom full of kindergartners are a real hoot, and Pamela Reed offers enjoyable support as Schwarzenegger's police partner, while Penelope Ann Miller (as another teacher) provides a low-key romantic interest and Carroll Baker steals her scenes as the villain's domineering mother. These familiar elements combine to make this a surprisingly lively and entertaining comedy-thriller, but parents are advised to heed the PG-13 rating: there are a lot of funny kids in the movie, but it's still a police thriller, with a violent climax that's not suitable for young viewers. --Jeff Shannon

    Excellent Movies, Poor DVDs

Okay, first of all, these are two great comedies and anyone who considers themselves an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan definately owes it to themself to check these out! I shouldn't have to tell you what they're about. You can read that somewhere else if you don't know already. What I will tell you about are the DVDs. And about those, I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed. First of all, they are both in FULL-FRAME format, rather than the theatrical widescreen. Second, the picture quality is not all that good either. The colors are kind of weak and the film transfer is often grainy. The sound is in Dolby Digital Surround, which is fine, but the biggest problem with this release is that there are no extras! And while Ivan Reitman and Arnold may not actually have time to sit down and provide a commentary track, I would at least think that there would be something to add to these, like maybe deleted scenes or outtakes (just try to imagine what bloopers could be had with Arnold and the kids from Kindergarten Cop!), but there's only cast info, photo galleries and the two trailers. So basically, all Universal did was pack together two of their early DVD releases, and while this is fine (you do save money by buying both together), I would say, if you have these on VHS, you might not want to upgrade just yet. At least not until these two entertaining flims get the special treatment they deserve.

    Not widescreen format, not noted

It's getting to the point where you have to peruse DVDs with a magnifying glass to see what you're getting, and I was very disappointed to find on arrival that these 2 movies are not in widescreen format, and that is not listed anywhere in the technical description of the set.

Two of the best Ah-nuld comedies

Twins and Kindergarten Cop - a match made in heaven! Schwarzenegger is hilarious in both. In Twins, his twin brother, Danny Devito, go on a quest to search for their mother. One of the best lines from Twins is when Arnold puts on a t-shirt and says "Born ... to be bad." In Kindergarten Cop, Arnold faces an enemy on par with the predator .... children. Schwarzenegger's looking for a guy that murdered a drug addict and is looking for his kids. So, Arnold goes under cover as a school teacher after his partner gets a stomach virus. There are countless lines that are great. If you're looking for two great movies, look no further.

    True Lies DVD

From The Terminator to Titanic, you can always rely on writer-director James Cameron to show you something you've never seen on the big screen before. The guy may not consistently pen the most scintillating dialogue in the world (and, especially in this movie, he doesn't seem to have a particularly high regard for women), but as a director of kinetic, push-the-envelope action sequences, he is in a class by himself. In True Lies, the highlight is a breathtaking third-act jet and car chase through the Florida Keys. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a covert intelligence agent whose wife of 15 years (Jamie Lee Curtis) finally finds out that he's not really a computer salesman and who becomes mixed up in a case involving nuclear arms smuggling. Tom Arnold is surprisingly funny... More Info about this DVD

    Junior DVD

Arnold Schwarzenegger as a pregnant man? The Terminator with cramps and morning sickness? That was all the teasing audiences needed to flock to this 1994 farce, which reunited Arnold with his director and costar from Twins, Ivan Reitman and Danny De Vito. Reitman had also directed the Austrian muscleman in Kindergarten Cop, and they brought the same breezy quality of those earlier films to this enjoyable fluff, in which Arnold plays a scientist who uses his own body to test a revolutionary new fertility drug. His colleague De Vito talks him into the experiment, which succeeds beyond their wildest expectations when Arnold begins a full-term pregnancy. Emma Thompson offers a wealth of comedic support as the biologist who moves into Schwarzenegger's lab while he's... More Info about this DVD

    Red Heat DVD

After scoring a hit with the Eddie Murphy-Nick Nolte cop thriller 48 Hours, director Walter Hill returned to the buddy formula with this half-ridiculous, half-invigorating action flick about humorless Russian cop Ivan Danko (Arnold Schwarzenegger). He follows a drug dealer from Moscow to Chicago, where he's matched up with city cop Art Ridzik (James Belushi), whose work ethic is considerably more relaxed. Most of the humor revolves around Danko's grumpy reaction to good ol' American capitalism, while Ridzik urges him to chill out. Red Heat is not bad as action comedies go, but only if you get into the absurd spirit of this predictable fare, in which the unlikely buddies get to wisecrack and act casually while mayhem erupts everywhere they go. Incidentally, Red Heat... More Info about this DVD

The Running Man (Special Edition) DVD

In this action thriller based on an early story by Stephen King, Los Angeles in the year 2017 has become a police state in the wake of the global economy's total collapse. All forms of entertainment are government controlled, and the most popular show on television is an elaborate game show in which convicted criminals are given a chance to escape by running through a gauntlet of brutal killers known as "Stalkers." Anyone who survives is given their freedom and a condominium in Hawaii, so when a wrongly accused citizen (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is chosen as a contestant, all hell breaks loose. Cheesy sets and a slimy role for game-show host Richard Dawson make this violent mess of mayhem a candidate for guilty pleasure; it is the kind of movie that truly devoted Arnold fans will want to...
