DVD The Last American Virgin
A "let's get laid" favorite from the teen-comedy trend of the early 1980s, The Last American Virgin is beloved enough to earn its own fan-driven website, and it's still lots of fun. While tapping into the same zeitgeist that popularized Fast Times at Ridgemont High (which was released just one week earlier), this above-average sex comedy mixes high-school high jinks with the real anguish of unrequited love, as a nice kid named Gary (Lawrence Monoson) falls for Karen (Diane Franklin), a cute classmate who won't return his affections. Gary delivers pizza, leading to the comic highlight when his horny pals (Steve Antin, Joe Rubbo) deliver more than pizza to a lonely Latina bombshell (Louisa Moritz). But Gary wants his "first time" to be special, and director Boaz Davidson smartly avoids the obvious by denying Gary of the thing he wants most. Intended as the first in a series of remakes of the Israeli "Lemon Popsicle" comedies of the 1970s, The Last American Virgin offers abundant nudity, a recycled soundtrack of '80s hits, and plenty of hair mousse, but it's genuine hormonal angst that's given it a lasting reputation. --Jeff Shannon
Beautifully illustrative of the perversity of natural selection taking precedence over heartfelt emotion. Fortunately(?), we really only get to be Gary once in our lives. The sad thing is, ten years later Karen will finally decide he's good enough, if only because Rick's kids need a father.
I'd always kind of secretly hoped there would be some kind of a sequel, maybe a Last American Virgin 2: Revenge of the Nerd? It seemed so depressing and unfair to leave this great guy stuck for all eternity driving off into the rain. But then it's that raw kick-in-the-gut irony that made this film memorable.
Oh, and the music is still awesome, especially Journey. Every time I hear 'Open Arms' now, I remember not so much the movie itself, but the feel of it.
And, I very likely will never be able to look at a burrito in quite the same way ever again. :)

One of the best classic 80's movies ever made, it's in the ranks of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Breakfast Club, I saw it when it was first released, awsome soundtrack, It's about time it was out on dvd, just a shame it's not in 5.1, but it's worth every penny you pay to add it to your collection!
Last American Virgin, The
Great movie. Have been searching for this for a long time. Glad I finally found it.
Valley Girl is, like--Omigod!--one of the most "tubular" teen comedies of the early 1980s. This movie launched Nicolas Cage's career, and it's easy to see why: Following his tiny role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Cage is perfectly cast as a Hollywood punk who instantly falls for Julie (the irresistible Deborah Foreman), a San Fernando "Valley Girl"--a brighter variant of the stereotype immortalized in Moon Unit Zappa's 1982 novelty song--who must choose between wild-boy Nic and her preening jock boyfriend (Mark Bowen). Fortunately, Julie knows what's right for her (even if her "Val" friends don't), and in refreshing defiance of teen-flick tradition, her post-hippie parents (Frederic Forrest, Colleen Camp) are supportively cool. With sincere humor, a lively soundtrack of... In the brief flower of his teen idolhood, C. Thomas Howell starred in this unexpectedly mature teen comedy. High school loser Michael (Howell) receives an unsigned love note and hopes it's from the queen of the social scene, Debbie (Kelly Preston). When Debbie brushes him off, his best friend Toni (Lori Loughlin) convinces him to send her an anonymous note of his own--only Toni, who's so in love with Michael that she wants him to be happy, rewrites his clumsy fumblings into romantic prose, and Debbie swoons. Meanwhile, the first note has fallen into other hands, setting off misguided passion among the kids' parents. Secret Admirer could have been familiar fluff, but the plot keeps taking unexpected turns, tweaking the clichés of the teen genre with a dose of reality.... This statement can probably best describe Patrick Dempsey currently, but those who remember him in his earlier works only associate it with "Can't Buy Me Love". Dempsey stars in the story of a nerd who buys himself popularity only to fall in too deep with his new inflated ego. With countless memorable scenes and a touching (and yes corny) ending, this movie is clearly up there as far as teen 80's flicks. Dempsey shines as the desperate Ronald Miller looking for what he believes will provide happiness. His goofy ways are ever present in the big dance where he "introduces" the school to a new dance. Amanda Peterson and Courtney Gains round out a solid cast. More Info about this DVD Director(s): Steve Rash DVD Release Date: Released the 13 August 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

This movie doesn't have the best writing or production quality, but it's a cute concept and Diane Franklin does extensive (artistically done) nude scenes in the Garden of Eden sequence where she _bares_ it all (what is our educational system coming to?) as Eve.
