DVD Irreversible
Irreversible begins with the closing credits running backwards before the film begins (or ends) with Marcus (Vincent Cassell) and Pierre (Albert Dupontel) being escorted out of a gay S&M club by the cops, Marcus with his arm broken and Pierre in handcuffs. The "story" proceeds to unwind in a series of single-take scenes that unfold Memento-style, with each scene giving more context to what we have seen previously. Each scenario depicts actions, dialogue, incident, behavior, and circumstances that the lead characters might have wished didn't happen, ranging from extreme violence through awkward social situations to mild embarrassment. The central character (and possible dreamer of this whole what-if story) emerges as Alex (Monica Bellucci), who suffers the worst in a very hard-to-watch rape sequence in an underpass. Semi-improvised, the scenes all have attack and power as themes, with later/earlier conversational sequences that suggest life isn't all sexual assaults in the dark, showing equal cinematic imagination with the horrors. Arguably, this is not a film most would subject themselves to twice, but it is something that stays in the mind for days after viewing, sparking far more ideas and emotions than most wallow-in-nastiness pictures. --Kim Newman
I can't say anything different here that anyone else hasn't already said about this shocker, and im glad i bought it ... im still trying to get over the anger i felt while picking my mouth up from the floor. I loved it. Made my blood boil and my skin crawl. I guess it's just one of those things that you hate to love, and love to hate. Just one thing though; I would've realy loved bashing in the brains of the guy who came to the tunnel hallway and saw, and walked away and did nothing...id get him just before id go after The Tenia.
If you do like getting thown for a loop and enjoy having your emotions rattled then by all means get this. Thank you for reading.
PS. Two thumbs up for you Gaspar Noe!
Mindblowing !!!
I am really puzzled by this movie. All I can say, whitout describing what hapens in it, like most greenhorns do, is that
although I do condemn violence, I think Tenia got away too easy.
His death came too quick, IMO.
Why can't Americans make films like this?
This movie is an absolute masterpiece, a movie that will NEVER be made in America. We ask for violence in our movies, but we want it to be quick and (psychologically) painless. We want sex in our movies, but nothing more than "boobies" and simulated, under the blanket sex. What makes this film so powerful is that it refuses to operate by these conventions--we've always been told that the rape scene in "The Accused" was harrowing and groundbreaking. Frankly, it looks like an episode of "Sesame Street" compared to the rape scene in this movie. Some will argue that I am depraved for wanting to see a realistic rape scene. The fact is, the scene made me extremely uncomfortable--as a rape scene should. Why should we get off easily when shown something as heinous as a rape? I believe that the typical 10 second rape scenes trivialize the rape and make it devoid of the devastating consequences it should have upon the viewer's psyche. I would also like to commend Gaspar Noe for showing real sex in his movies. It's about time someone made a movie that proves you can have graphic sex without it being prurient. Irreversible does for sex what Joyce's Ulysses did for sexuality in literature. I can only hope that one day Americans will get over their Puritanical roots, because the Europeans, the Japanese and the South Koreans are humiliating us in the film department.
A love letter to movies (and the French new wave of the 1960s in particular), Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers starts with a 1968 riot outside of a Parisian movie palace then burrows into an insular love triangle. Matthew (Michael Pitt, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), an expatriate American student, bonds with a twin brother and sister, Isabelle (Eva Green) and Theo (Louis Garrel), over their mutual love of film--they not only quote lines of dialogue, they act out small bits and challenge each other to name the cinematic source. Matthew suspects the twins of incest, but that doesn't stop him from falling into his own intimacies with Isabelle. As the threesome becomes threatened, Paris succumbs to student riots. The Dreamers aspires to be kinky, but the results are more... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Bernardo Bertolucci DVD Release Date: Released the 13 July 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. The sex scenes were some of the best I've seen because they were graphic yet very realistic. The story was touching and honest. If you're an adult who enjoys a realistic story that is very hot, you will definitely enjoy this gem. Watch and enjoy! Not for the faint-hearted. Baise-Moi defies categories--it features pornographic sex scenes and violent shootings, but it won't fit anyone's definition of an erotic thriller. After separately committing murders, two French women join together in a spree of crime and sex. Because both have endured abuse at the hands of men, the movie seems to start as a self-righteous parable--but the women's actions quickly degenerate into amoral, near random killings, with women shot as casually as men. One reviewer described Baise-Moi as "Thelma & Louise with actual penetration," but it's actually Thelma & Louise without Hollywood sentiment. By refusing to condemn or justify the protagonists' actions, and by depicting both sex and violence with unglamorous realism,... In terms of alluring female nudity, Swimming Pool shows a lot, but it's what remains concealed that gives this erotic thriller a potent, voyeuristic charge. With his Hitchcockian handling of secrets and lies, prolific French director François Ozon reunites with his Under the Sand star, Charlotte Rampling, to tell a seductive tale of murder and complicity, beginning when British mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Rampling) seeks peace and relaxation at her publisher's French villa, only to find his brash, sexually liberated daughter Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arriving shortly thereafter to disrupt her solitary reverie. What begins as mutual annoyance turns into something more sinister and duplicitous, alternating between Julie's predatory sex with men and Sarah's observant,... When 12-year-old Renato, riding through his small Italian town on his new bicycle, sees the voluptuous Malèna, little does he know he's launching on an infatuation that will carry him through the tumultuous days of World War II. Malèna begins as an enraptured depiction of Renato's adolescent mind--the way he stares, hypnotized, at Malèna's garters pressing through the material of her tight skirt, or his frustrated rebellion against the indignity of wearing short pants--but soon transforms into a portrait of small-town prejudice. Malèna's looks spark lust and envy in the townspeople; when her husband dies in combat, the gossip only intensifies, to the point that Malèna is dragged into court to defend herself against accusations of adultery. When... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Monica Bellucci - Giuseppe Sulfaro Director(s): Giuseppe Tornatore DVD Release Date: Released the 10 July 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours
