This movie is like a cross between 'Wall Street' and 'Requiem for a Dream.' It is about a young guy working his way up in the business world (the hard way probably) when he gets a little wrapped up in cocaine and his life goes down the toilet. Basically, about $20,000 of company money goes up his nose on one trip, causing him to be fired, after which he only goes further and further into dispair and misdirection. The climax of the film occurs when, having spent half of dinner doing lines in the bathroom, James Woods goes absolutely berserk in front of a buch of bankers who are potentially going to finance "a project" he has in mind. It is hilarious coke fueled rampage. Other than that, there is some cheesy acting and the movie seems kind of preachy at the end; James Woods' downfall follows the lockstep pattern of a DARE councelor's wet dream. But still a very worthwhile watch.
Horrible to watch the human downfall
I just saw this movie and was spellbound but wanted to turn away. I am a great Woods fan and this part was suberb. I kept thinking back about his roll in the AAA founders. It is scarry to think how you can get into drugs. I kept wondering if this could happen to me.
This movie is recommended but it is so intense and full of human weaknesses. Not a melodrama.

James Woods is unbelievable in this movie.He is absolutely amazing as Lenny Brown the sharp as a knife down on his luck salesman with a beautiful wife(Sean Young)and an evergrowing loss of worth in his mind.Well his luck has changed for the better when he meets a man that basically gives Lenny and his wife a new life in Beverly Hills with a new job,car,and house.Soon Lenny begins to spend,spend,spend and before you know it his company goes straight under.And when hes at a party he dabbles in cocaine just to get his edge back and he convinces his wife to take it.What happens to Lenny after is an evergrowin addiction that he tries to kick but then something awful happens and he's back on more drugs,any drugs he can get crack,downers,pills,name it and the ending is bleak and disturbing.Woods gives his best and most disturbing and real performance of his carreer.Get this movie now.

Days of Wine and Roses is one film not to watch if you are melancholic by nature, as this tale of middle-class alcoholism rings very true. Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick are the besotted couple who find that life is not always fun when viewed through rosé-colored glasses. He's the San Francisco business executive who marries Remick and seduces her into a cocktail culture that soon overpowers them both. It is not a pretty picture when their life shatters around them, but this film is extremely compelling for their performances. Who knew comedian Richard Lewis could act? There is no plot to speak of in this character study, which follows AA members who meet in a Times Square basement to bare their souls. The performances, however, are dazzling. A sparse plot follows Lewis through one dark, soul-searching night in which he questions his life, his choices, and his sobriety.
