This is a sad and touching Christmas movie about a family who hasn't celebrated Christmas for years. They had stopped celebrating Christmas because only a couple of days before Christmas the last time they had their tree, and decorations up they had found out that their son had been killed in the Gulf War. It is several years later and their daughter may have cancer and a mysterious stranger shows up saying that he knew their son and he helps them to have faith and to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas and there is a nice surprise at the end of this movie. Get out the tissues or hankies for this one!
Christmas tears
A wonderful, heart warming story. I cry good tears everytime I watch it.
Ending lacked
I thought that the movie had a lot of potential, but lacked a lot at the end. There was so much build up in the film about their son, and then it sort of fades away and...well, lets just say that it was quite disapointing near and at the end of the film. I think it could have been something very special, but having only the father understanding who the visitor really is, really takes away from the whole story.

We bought ANGEL DOLL after reading about it in a piece for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis (the film has a connection to this facility). Our expectations were not high, but the film was quite a pleasant surprise. There are no big stars in the movie, but the performances are solid and believable. I've seen my share of similar plot-lines (i.e., poor kid or family overcomes hardships to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas or friendship or loyalty or whatever. But Angel Doll does not cross into hokeyville. It manages to remain true to its themes and entertaining to the viewer. For the price, it's a wonderful value for any video collection. I had seen this movie on VHS (a copy from a library), and found it to be fairly good. I then recently purchased a copy of the DVD version. The cover of the version I purchased says, "A heart warming classic for the holiday season!", and has the pictures of John Houseman, James Cromwell, and Michael Learned highlighted in Christmas ornaments. I don't know if the other DVD versions are as horrible, but this one has black "floaters", terrible color quality, and a grainy appearance that reminds me of some old film that an amatuer did.
BEWARE! Don't waste your money on this junk! I purchased this copy to donate to my local library. I had had so much success with all my other purchases that I didn't even bother previewing it. After it was processed at the library, I checked it out,... More Info about this DVD Director(s): John Korty DVD Release Date: Released the 17 September 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

Truman Capote's classic Depression-era short story is well served in One Christmas, an earnest holiday heartwarmer from the folks at Hallmark Entertainment. It's got all the sentiment one would expect from a Hallmark TV movie, but director Tony Bill knows just how to moderate the maudlin and focus on genuine emotions (as he did for his big-screen releases Untamed Heart and A Home of Our Own). Of course it never hurts to have Katharine Hepburn on board for some high-class pedigree: In her final performance the Hollywood legend goes out on a high note, delivering a pivotal scene about living life with no regrets, and she may just as well be describing her own independent spirit. The great Kate plays a wealthy New Orleans socialite whose spinster niece (Swoosie Kurtz,...
