DVD The In-Laws (Widescreen Edition)
It won't steal any thunder from the 1979 original, but this breezy remake of The In-Laws offers a few solid laughs. It's blessed by the casting of Albert Brooks as one of two imminent fathers-in-law who embark on the proverbial "wacky misadventure" on the eve of a lavish family wedding. The veteran comedian plays a podiatrist (in the dentist role originated by Alan Arkin) and Michael Douglas (in Peter Falk's role) is a deep-cover agent for the CIA, unbeknownst to Brooks or his daughter, who's about to marry Douglas's son--an event also attended by Douglas's ex-wife (Candice Bergen), who remains spiteful despite her newfound Buddhist enlightenment. As an arms dealer targeted by Douglas's latest covert operation, David Suchet matches Brooks laugh-for-laugh in the movie's funniest scenes, but one drawback can't be avoided: Douglas simply isn't funny. But while the original In-Laws was arguably overrated, this remake, for all its faults, makes for an agreeable rainy-day pastime. --Jeff Shannon
I have watched this movie so many times that I still crack up at certain parts especially when Albert Brooks decides to get in the hot tub! Albert Brooks and Michael Douglass seem like an unlikely pair but truly are one of the funniest older men together I have ever seen! Michael Douglass plays a deep CIA agent that has to decide whether to stop working for the weekend or go to his son, Mark (Ryan Reynolds), wedding. Mark is to be married to a beautiful daughter of Albert Brooks (Lindsay Sloane). The only problem is that her family has yet to meet Mark's jet packing father. Somehow Albert and Michael end up flying half way around the world and back into a world of danger. The fun really starts at the wedding rehearsal where a surprise band starts to sing the first song the couple ever sang together. I was laughing so hard the first, second, and even the third time. Though the story does die down every once and awhile the most memorable and funny scenes are with Albert, Michael, ans Ryan Reynolds. They seem to carry the story whenever it seems lacking. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of comedy!
Weird....
Of course I am too young to even remember the original. or if I was old enough to remember, I did not see the original...but with that said, the movie was not that good to be honest. It was totally weird, and quite boring...not at all what I expected out of this ensemble cast!!! Skip this one!!
Rolicking slapstick fun
I totally disagree with the naysayers about this movie. It's fun, fast paced and funny overall. It's not Oscar material, but at least it's entertaining. A break from the slasher/techo computer generated/killer with attitude flicks. People lighten up...it's all in jest. Rent it for light hearted comedy with a good sound track and some surprises along the way!
Meet the Parents found such tremendous success in the chemistry produced by the contrasting personalities of stars Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller that the film's creators went for broke with the same formula again in Meet the Fockers. This time around, Jack and Dina Byrnes (De Niro and Blythe Danner) climb into Jack's new kevlar-lined RV with daughter Pam (Teri Polo), soon-to-be son-in-law Gaylord (Stiller), and Jack's infant grandson from his other daughter for the trip to Florida to meet Gaylord's parents, Bernie and Roz Focker (Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand in a casting coup). The potential in-laws are, of course, the opposite of Jack, a pair of randy, touchy-feely fun-lovers. The rest of the movie is pretty much a sitcom: put Bernie and Roz together with Jack, and... This 1979 comedy is absolutely indispensable for fans of Peter Falk, Alan Arkin, or Andrew Bergman, who wrote the film's screenplay and went on to direct The Freshman and Honeymoon in Vegas. (Let's forgive him for Striptease.) Arkin is extraordinarily funny as a dentist who quickly grows skeptical about the wild claims of his daughter's future father-in-law (Peter Falk) that he is a CIA agent. When he is drawn into a bizarre adventure in a banana republic, however, he takes a different view. Arthur Hiller (Love Story) provides serviceable direction, but the real draw here is the perfect chemistry between the two leads and Bergman's weirdly comic mind. Watch for the look on Arkin's face when Falk's character tells a story about giant tse-tse flies. --Tom... Like its predecessor Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve is a piffle of a caper, a preposterous plot given juice and vitality by a combination of movie star glamour and the exuberant filmmaking skill of director Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Limey). The heist hijinks of the first film come to roost for a team of eleven thieves (including the glossy mugs of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, and Don Cheadle), who find themselves pursued not only by the guy they robbed (silky Andy Garcia), but also by a top-notch detective (plush Catherine Zeta-Jones) and a jealous master thief (well-oiled Vincent Cassel) who wants to prove that team leader Danny Ocean (dapper George Clooney) isn't the best in the field. As if all that star power weren't enough--and the... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Steven Soderbergh DVD Release Date: Released the 12 April 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

You get two hostage crises for the price of one in Hostage, an overwrought but otherwise involving thriller grounded by Bruce Willis's solid lead performance. Making a dramatic pit-stop on his way to Die Hard 4, Willis plays a traumatized former Los Angeles hostage negotiator, now working as a nearly-divorced police chief in sleepy Ventura County, California. Willis suddenly finds himself amidst two potentially deadly stand-offs when a trio of hapless teenagers seize hostages in the fortress-like home of an accountant (Kevin Pollack) whose connections to organized crime result in Willis struggling to rescue his estranged wife and daughter, who are being held hostage by faceless thugs at an undisclosed location. Having directed two of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video...
