Inside Mecca presents the most capturing and three-dimensional documentation of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and beautiful portrail of the universal principles of Islam during the days of the Hajj. It like a virtual hajj experience along with the witness of personal stories of the pilgrims and the mental preparation, physical strain and spiritual ecstasy they encounter on their life-altering pilgrimage of faith.
Does not show you the true feeling of Hajj
It is not that bad, but I think that they could have made it 10 times better. It goes thru the process really quickly without stoping and explaining each process. I t was skimming tru evrything. Maybe they had time constraints! Nevertheless, if someone wants to have an idea of hajj then it is not that bad as I said earlier.
Wonderful View of the Hajj and Mecca from 3 Perspectives
This is a wonderful documentary of the Hajj with an inside view of the sacred city of Mecca. As a teacher of religious studies, I have seen several good documentary depictions of Mecca, but this is the best I have seen as it gives the viewer the perspective of a woman from Texas, a man from South Africa, and a man from Malaysia. This documentary takes the viewer on the Hajj, recounting the preparation for the Hajj, the journey to Mecca, and the various rituals associated with this Pillar of Islam. Most interestingly, the viewer learns about the meaning of the Hajj for the Muslim pilgrim. I HIGHLY recommend this DVD!
Islam: Empire of Faith is the epic PBS documentary that charts the history of Islam from its beginnings in Mecca and Medina in the seventh century to the glory of the Ottoman Empire 1,000 years later.
The demonization of Islam by the West has a long history, stretching back to the First Crusade at the end of the 11th century. This documentary redresses the balance by showing the riches of Islamic culture and the vital role played by Islam in preserving and building upon ancient wisdom from East and West at a time when most of Europe was stumbling through the Dark Ages. Muslim physicians, mathematicians, and astronomers stretched the boundaries of human knowledge, and Muslim architects created some of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
Watching this enthralling documentary, one inevitably wonders how Islam, a beautiful religion, could have become synonymous with fear and hatred, even after 9/11. Inside Islam explores the historic and poetic wellspring of the Muslim people and illuminates startling commonalities among Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. Shades of difference between Islam's foundation and that of its counterparts prove more fascinating than divisive, e.g., Islam claims a direct line with Abraham via the latter's cast-off son, Ismael, while Judaism is linked to Abraham's more favored child, Isaac. Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the angel Gabriel each play major roles in the Quran; it was Gabriel, in fact, who transmitted the Word of God to the 40-year-old, seemingly ordinary Muhammad in the 7th... Although the Egyptian version of the movie gives the depth that the movie deserves this adaption qualifies to be as good as the Egyptian. I have enjoyed both versions and have gladly added them to my video collection. A must for any person interested in the Islamic faith and it's beginnings. In 2 weeks, I will actually be at the Vatican for my first visit. This wonderful DVD showed me places and things that I will never be able to see as a tourist, but just knowing about the workings of the Vatican will add such a richness of knowledge to visit. This is a beautifully done 90 min DVD as only National Geographic could have done. I was thrilled with every minute I spent watching it and will enjoy watching it many more time when I get home --- to remember my trip.
