Review(s): DVD Barbara Taylor Bradford's A Secret Affair
Just enjoy!
Mixed reviews usually mean that a movie, book or CD is worth investigating. This movie is worth checking out. The hero actually is nice and the heroine has a lot to think about. She is engaged to someone whom her upper-crust family expects her to marry. However, when she meets the hero, she realizes that she doesn't love her fiance nor does she marry him. There is a twist after the heroine breaks the engagement. This movie's plot is predictable in some ways just like any other, but some of the characters are not. It's setting is international and it has a delightful edginess. What I like about this movie, also, is that the characters could be for real and not just some body that looks good on screen. They are not Hollywood's ideal for movies. One can really identify and empathize with these characters.
Sorely disappointed!
Make no mistake, if I could've typed a '0' as a rating, I would have done so!
This movie was poor in all the ways I value a film. Anytime a sexual encounter has to be inserted to keep the attention of the audience, it's a loser. As soon as I saw the encounter begin to happen, I was turned off to the movie and turned it off! It was immediately fodder for the trash can. In this film it only took the mindless producers 15 minutes to stage a sexual scene! Any real value it could've had was lost once the sex was introduced. Sex has it's place in the lives of people. It loses its beauty and uniqueness in a relationship when it's indulged in, outside of married life. Was certainly never meant to be engaged in with an audience! How crude and gross!
On the other hand, Michael Landon Jr., working with Janette Oke's books, was highly effective and successful in producing a superbly acted film with all the realities of life depicted in a hopefilled, morally clean atmosphere.
How very offensive and disappointing I found this film! I felt this it to be sleasy and grossly lacked the character development that transforms a film into a great movie. I trashed my copy of Secret Affair, regretful I'd purchased it before having rented it first. I learned my lesson!
Wonderful Movie. A must see.
I can not express how happy I was to see that this movie was available. I fell in love with A Secret Affair after seeing it on tv. It is a beautiful story with wonderful background for the film. I would recommend anyone who enjoys a wonderful love story to view this film.

I just love this movie. I saw it first on the Hallmark Channel when I was channel surfing, then I purchased the DVD. Each time I've watched it, I find I like it more and more. However, I would have loved to have seen more story/character development and a little more romance, perhaps even a wedding between Tyler & Jordan (reason for 4 & not 5 stars). For instance, the scene outside the barn after Tyler has turned away & ran from Jordan, he says ".. I never expected this" It's not clear at first exactly what it is he wasn't expecting. You realize later that he never expected to fall in love with her. Would be great if a sequel follows!??? More Info about this DVD Director(s): David S. Garnet is the heroine, a young family doctor who recently lost her husband to a death-ride on a rodeo bull. She is tired of her father-in-law and other people in her picturesque town of Sweetwater, CO, being tired of HER unhappiness. Out of desperation she hires a "boyfriend" from an escort agency, and tells him to sweep her off her feet whenever they're in public to convince everyone they're seriously involved.
While the premise was appealing, the reality was a bit more mottled. Garnet, as both doctor and grieving wife, I found less than convincing. Claiming to have no interest in romance, she nevertheless behaves in an immature and needy, please-love-me-come-hither manner. She treats her long-suffering hiree with disdain, even while availing herself fully (and I do mean... This would have been a good movie it they would have left out the language. We didn't make it to the end of the movie to see how many foul words were used and the extremitity of the language. I wanted a movie with a good plot but without the language no matter how mild to some. It would have been a good movie it the language was left off. Writer/director Michael Landon Jr. continues in his famous father's footsteps by creating moral family entertainment set in the early days of the American prairie. Stubborn Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy) travels west with her new husband--but after they find a beautiful patch of land, her husband dies in an accident before they've even started building. A man named Clark (Dale Midkiff, Air Bud: World Pup) makes a proposal: If Marty will enter into a platonic marriage with him, he'll pay for her passage back east in the spring. What Clark needs is a mother, however temporary, for his willful tomboy daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Beyond the Prairie, Part 2). Missie fights Marty's presence fiercely while Clark, though supportive, speaks few... This film is not known as widely as some of the other films based on the novels of Danielle Steel most likely because it was not shown on commerical TV. Released in 1983, this film is rated PG-13 due to the subject matter (rape). I originally read the book when it first came out years ago and loved it! The film is very faithful to the novel. Cheryl Ladd is beautiful as ever and does a fantastic job portraying the 'wronged wife'- This is one of the darker stories by Danielle Steel, but does have the romantic story line that she is famous for. I would highly recommend this movie for the adult viewer. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 30 November 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours
