I don't know what the previous reviewer was thinking when he criticised this set of 4 program son 2 DVD's. It has excellent production values and great, applicable information, on CQB, Sniping, Hand-to-Hand Combat, and Knife Techiniques.
The last two were the most relevant to me (a civilian) but all of the programs were of value. If you have basic understanding of weapons and combat, this DVD will be very useful. The next best thing would be to actually join the military or police and learn from them. Otherwise, this works very well.
A Worthless Pile
This was nothing more than an advertisement for a couple of ex-SEAL's who started a company. Obviously based on entry techniques, clearing, (etc...) it shows nothing interesting and was a complete waste of money. After the second disk I turned it off, and just gave it to someone. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT! (for lack of a better printable word)
This DVD is an excellent example of unconventional warfare in action. It places U.S. Army Special Forces with their indigenous element in Afghanistan and shows extremely damning evidence of the Iraqi Government's complicity in the State sponsorship of International Terrorism under Saddam Hussein. I only wish this information had been picked up by traditional media and elaborated on more.
Previous reviews criticize the military garb, stance, and bearing of the soldiers being portrayed in the documentary. This individual is clearly unaccustomed to the unconventional warfare environment and his criticism was incredibly irrelevant. The Navy SEALs-America's Secret Warriors DVD is exceedinlgy disappointing. The information and facts the guy standing at the fireplace recites are elementary and old to anybody who knows anything about SEALs. THe footage is very outdated and its authenticity dubious. The piece on the Stoner machine gun, however, is good. The DVD could elaborate a lot more on BUD/S, SpecWar tactics, and counter-terrorism ops, and actually include commentary from actual SEALs. Don't be fooled by the "4 in 1" boast-have of that is a simple little quiz reviewing the most rudementary of SEAL facts the DVD just told you. Go down to your local Navy recruiter and watch a video there. Maybe you'll get a poster and keychain too. This DVD had real potential. As a member of the Armed Forces, I was hoping for something that would take me back to boot camp and give me the quality of workout I remember. Didn't happen. I'm not saying that the Navy SEALs don't have excellent training, what I am saying is that it is not reflected in this workout. The filming is done very poorly, on about $40/day. I thought I was getting a workout that would require no equipment, but that is not true. While the majority of the exercises don't require anything but you, there is a major section that needs pullup and dip bars. In retrospect, I would not have bought this DVD, but would have spent my money elsewhere. Don't waste yours like I wasted mine!
