this movie is horrid--i wonder if the acting was supposed to be this bad on purpose. and the message--that "success" somehow makes you white--the charicatures may have been there to make a point, and yeah it's playing like a period piece (early 90's) -- but why did baby bam (jungle brothers) have to be in this? as the narrator, "sidekick", he was the best thing about the flick.
Decent...
I thought this was a pretty cool movie for the time period it came out in. It even had a message in it, which is : never forget who you are, where you have come from and gone through when you reach the success you set out to reach in life.
it's garbage
This movie is apparently a comedy that turns out not to be funny when it tries to be and when it doesn't. I'm trying to think of one redeeming quality this movie contains, but there is none. Don't buy it.
Partly inspired by 1948's The Big Clock and its nominal 1987 remake No Way Out, the Denzel Washington thriller Out of Time is quite enjoyable if you ignore its implausible plotting. Like those earlier films, this reunion of Washington and his Devil in a Blue Dress director Carl Franklin is about a man--in this case the police chief (Washington) of sleepy Banyan Key, Florida--who falls into a trap set by others, sinks into legal quicksand of his own making, and must race the clock to extricate himself from a series of incriminating setbacks. The Florida setting adds welcome character to the potboiler plot, and Washington's screen-cred makes it easy to overlook the absurdities of rookie writer David Collard's screenplay. Eva Mendes is sharp and sensible as... Sprung is the story of 4 friends Clyde (Joe Torry), Adina (Paula Jai Parker), Brandy (Tisha Campbell) and Montel (Rusty Cundieff) . Clyde and Adina who are both playas hook up immediately and Adina finds out that Clyde isn't the rich man she thought he was and hilarity ensues (check the scene with Clyde riding on top of Adina's car in only his jockey underwear). Meanwhile against Clyde and Adina's wishes, Brandy and Montel fall in love and are truly happy. Clyde and Adina conspire to break up their friends's happy relationship, accusing the twosome of being "Sprung". Overall this is a very sweet romance and it also very funny. I've worn out my video and recently purchased this on DVD and I"m quite happy I did and I think you should get it too! the first time i saw this movie it was by pure chance. i had no idea as to what to expect... talk about finding a diamond in the rough. it was brilliantly written, directed, and the acting was perfect. in watching the movie, you feel as if you are in the story as a silent witness to this amazingly funny and sometimes weird story. to me, this is a cult classic... even if i am the only person in the cult. This huge 1993 hit for Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus (Home Alone), based on a novel called Alias Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine, stars Williams as a loving but flaky father estranged from his frustrated wife (Sally Field). Devastated by a court order limiting his time with the children, Williams's character disguises himself as a warm, old British nanny who becomes the kids' best friend. As with Dustin Hoffman's performance in Tootsie, Williams's drag act--buried under layers of latex and padding--is the show, and everything and everyone else on screen serves his sometimes frantic role. Since that's the case, it's fortunate that Williams is Williams, and his performance is terribly funny at times and exceptionally believable in those scenes where his...
