Tom and Jerry's Greatest Chases DVD

Classic cartoon fans will delight in the bevy of classic Tom and Jerry animated shorts, each of which ends in the proclamation "Made in Hollywood, U.S.A.," and most of which are from the '40s. Fifteen episodes (totaling more than an hour) are featured. Included are: "The Cat Concerto," "Johann Mouse," "The Little Orphan," "Yankee Doodle Mouse," "Salt Water Tabby," "Tee for Two," "Solid Serenade," "Zoot Cat," "Johann Mouse," "Dr. Jekyll" and Mr. Mouse," "Mouse in Manhattan," "Kitty Foiled," "The Little Orphan," and "Jerry's Diary." It might surprise more mature viewers, with fond recollections of the adventures of the gray cat and the little mouse, how relentlessly violent (albeit cartoon violence) the 'toons are. This video, a collection of chase-centric ... More Info about this DVD

Tom and Jerry - Whiskers Away DVD

The ultimate cat and mouse chase travels around the world at a frantic pace in this 72-minute compilation of 10 Tom and Jerry cartoons. Whether on a cruise ship bound for Hawaii, in France during the era of the guillotine, or at a ranch deep in Texas, Tom the cat can be counted upon to pursue, and be outsmarted by, Jerry the mouse. Slapstick comedy reins as Tom and Jerry are repeatedly shot full of holes, conked over the head with frying pans, and even venture into flamenco guitar playing and dancing. Tom and Jerry cartoons appeal to all ages, but the prevalence of violence necessitates parental guidance for young children. --Tami Horiuchi More Info about this DVD

    Tom & Jerry Collection DVD

Tom & Jerry's Greatest Chases is great! It's the Hanna/Barbera/Quimby animated shorts from the 50's. The other two are movies that were done in 1992 and 2001. "Tom and Jerry and the Magic Ring" is *OK* and my kids enjoy it. But "Tom and Jerry - The Movie" is just bad... I can see why this 3-pack was put together - it's the only way to sell the junk disc... Tom & Jerry - The Magic Ring DVD

This brief feature (only 62 minutes) mixes characters and situations borrowed from various shorts that Tex Avery, William Hanna, and Joseph Barbera made at MGM during the 1940s and early '50s. Yet director James Tim Walker lacks the razor-sharp timing of his models. When a young wizard leaves Tom to guard his magic ring, and Jerry gets the ring stuck on his head, a long series of chases and slapstick confrontations ensue. At times, Walker and writers Tim Cahill and Julie McNally seem to be trying to turn the venerable MGM stars into Itchy and Scratchy (who were modeled after the inferior Tom and Jerry clones from other studios). Magic Ring may amuse small children, but not their older siblings. It feels suspiciously like an attempt to revive Tom and Jerry as a... More Info about this DVD
