DVD There's a Girl in My Soup
The best that can be said for There's a Girl in My Soup is that it is not quite as bad as its reputation. A belly flop in the careers of Peter Sellers and Goldie Hawn (she was fresh off her Oscar® for Cactus Flower), this Boulting brothers production did nothing to showcase the sparkling comic talents of those two performers. Sellers has some nice moments early as a famous TV-host twit, whose career as a serial seducer is halted after meeting hippie chick Goldie. It's one double-entendre after another: "You only want one thing," says one of Sellers's conquests. "Yes, but what a lovely thing," he sighs. Seen now, the movie is most fun for its goofy look at the gestalt of swinging London: Sellers' automated bachelor pad was surely an inspiration to the Austin Powers folks, and his checkered beige suit must be seen to be believed. --Robert Horton
Terrible music that will unfortunately stick in your head for days, but Goldie and Peter are so witty, touching and hilarious in this movie, it's worth it. I especially enjoyed the scene where Peter's character helps Goldie's character move out of her boyfriend's flat...classic. Some great moments. (It might even make you cry - and not just because of the music!) Kind of an odd movie and probably an acquired taste, but I love to pull this one out every few years and watch it again.
Great movie
There is something about all those late sixties and early seventies movies that makes them enjoyable, could be the music, the looks , fashion. This is a great movie, very simple but entertaining. Goldie Hawn is a very charming girl and Seller's acting role is great, what can I say about him?.
THERE'S A GIRL IN MY SOUP
One of the most boring....dull....stupid Peter Sellers comedies. If you can find more then 2 or 3 laughs good luck. I love Peter Sellers in THE PINK PANTHER movies and he was brilliant in a great number of films.....but he falls far short in this one and Goldie Hawn is wasted totally.

An entertaining cops and robbers yarn, however, if you are looking for Peter Sellers in his full comic range don't look here. It appears that he is passing the time until "Dr. Strangelove came his way. That said, Sellers fans who are familiar with his greater work will be entertained by this lesser endeavor. A semi-scandal upon its release in 1978, this Louis Malle film is set in a turn-of-the-century, New Orleans bordello and focuses on a girl named Violet (then-child actress Brooke Shields) whose imminent twelfth birthday signals her "readiness" to become a career prostitute. Typical of Malle, the outwardly forbidden nature of the story and relationships within are morally obscured by the immediate experiences and unqualified urges of the characters. I am a big fan of Neil Simon (also Woody Allen and Mel Brooks). But I didn't like this movie when it came out, and I didn't like it yesterday. Walter Matthau is not so protean as these reviews would have it. He can be very funny, but he needs a good script to do it. The women shone. The first story was brutally painful. The whole skit and all but 2 or 3 jokes belonged to Maureen Stapleton. The second sketch was simply nothing. Two things made me laugh (I was supposed to laugh, wasn't I?). When Matthau to freshen Barbara Harris' vodka stinger pours straight vodka right out of the bottle into her glass, and when she asks him (he's a movie producer) whether Frank Sinatra is as generous as people say he is, and he answers that at one of his dinners Sinatra served large portions.
