This is one of Pauly Shore's better movies. Makes me think of something Sandler would do well at too. The movie finds Shore struggling for a place to live let alone his personal problems. When the chance to extend a court case that looks open and shut comes available he fillerbusters the jury into keeping the case going. His antics will make you laugh.
Only one problem here as I see it. This is not worth more than ten dollars on DVD. Sorry as much as I enjoyed it there are a great number of comedies I can buy for less than ten dollars, so I will pass on buying it until they lower the price.
Pauley's 5 But The movie's a 1
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is a terrible movie but thats where the agreement ends because I disagree with him that Pauley Shore is a shame to the acting community! I really like Pauley Shore and think he has made some darn funny movies and he was very good in them especially Encino Man, Biodome and son in Law. What I didn't like about Jury Duty wasn't Pauley Shore, I thought he was good but it was what he had to work with that wasn't good like a terrible script and humor that just wasn't very humorous so the 1 star is for the movie but Pauley Shore himself would get a 5!

First, off, if it has Pauly Shore it is pretty much guaranteed to be funny. In this comedy, Pauly Shore and his buddy sign up to be in the reserves because they need the money, little does he know when he picks their area of expertise, water clarifacation, that it is something that will actually be needed and they get called into active duty. Even with Pauly Shore as the "star," this 1993 comedy is a bit better than you might think. Shore plays an insouciant college student asked by a friend (Carla Gugino) to pretend to be her fiancé over Thanksgiving break, thus discouraging a jerk back in her hometown from proposing. Shore's character agrees but is given a hard time by the girl's salt-of-the-earth family of farmers. The hero and Gugino's character actually have a crush on each other, and now that they have an opportunity to explore romance, their relationship is threatened by poor Pauly's tests of rural manhood. Shore aside, the strong cast--including Gugino and Lane Smith--lend this thing some credibility; and the script doesn't take any shortcuts in moving the characters beyond their assumptions about one another.... This movie is hilarious. Of course, I really like Pauly Shore and have pretty much loved every movie that he has been in. I like how they (Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin, who has gorgeous eyes, btw) are innocently stupid, totally ruin the experiment (you could see it coming from the second they decided to stop at the "mall" and pee, but who cares, it is still funny) and then do their best to rectify the situation. I guess I like it because I am really into trying to save the planet and it shows that if we all worked together (instead of about 99.7% of the people just trashing it) we might actually have a chance at saving the planet, also it was really fricken funny. Brendan Fraser made his film debut in this 1992 comedy that never quite discovers its audience constituency. On the one hand, it features Pauly Shore, which would seem to define the picture's tone and identity accordingly. On the other hand, the film's other leading man is Sean Astin, the earnest star of Rudy, suggesting that Encino Man will have a lot of heart despite its silly premise. But none of that turns out to be true. Fraser plays an unfrozen caveman discovered by a pair of California high school outcasts (Shore and Astin). As the grunting newcomer becomes popular with the other kids, Shore and Astin try to bask in his reflected glow. Fraser, beginning a long movie career playing cartoonish goofballs, works entirely on instinct and earns his laughs. Shore, however,...
