This is another great Family movie made by Disney. It is hard to find good, safe, clean and fun and entertaining movies made anymore. One has to look back to the good Old Disney Classics to find these type of movies.
This movie has a boat load of morals taught thru out the film. It is a comedy, an action, a romance and family flick packaged together.
My twin boys age 3 love this movie also.
Beware Disney's 1.66:1 ratio DVD's
With the ration of 16x9 television actually being 1.78 to 1, how does Disney fit it's 1.66 to 1 movies on widescreen....by chopping off information, that's how.
First, Disney gives us full frame Pan & Scan pictures. Then, once someone has convinced them to start selling widescreen DVD's, they still can't get it right and adjust the picture so we see all of it.
In "Those Calloways", it is immediately noticeable during the opening credits....and continually pops up in the form of decapitated actors [or at least the TOPS of their heads.]
Tyring to get a decent transfer of a movie out of Disney appears to be like pulling teeth.
A Disney favorite in Widescreen!
Thanks so everyone at Buena Vista Home Video for releasing this film in its original theatrical ratios. While there are no "extras" on this disc, the one "extra" that really counts -- the entire film as it was meant to be seen -- is there. Hopefully, this release (and the release of "The Absent-Minded Professor" in widescreen) signal a shift in Disney policies. After all, these older films, created by Walt himself, appeal to serious Disney collectors who want the option of viewing films in their original ratios. Dare we hope that future releases will also be available in widescreen?
Lemuel Siddons is a musician (but studying to be a lawyer) with a travelling band around the early 1930s. The bus makes a brief stop in a small town called Hickory, a charming middle-America kind of place, and Lem makes a fateful decision to stay. He ends up volunteering to be the Boy Scout leader, impressing the sweet and beautiful Vida in the process. As a selfless Scout leader he touches the lives of the boys in the town down through the years and influences them for the better, particularly young Kurt Russell.

Purportedly one of Walt Disney's most personal pet projects, Darby O'Gill shows the effort and care put into it. Even now the special effects hold up shockingly well. Darby O'Gill is an estate caretaker, but in his advanced years he's more fond of telling tall tales in the local pub about the wee folk than keeping the grounds. A new man (a very youthful Sean Connery) is sent in to take his place, and O'Gill doesn't know what will become of himself and his daughter. He snags three spectacular opportunities, however, when he catches the king of the leprechauns. Oh, Disney! Disney! Why do you stab me in the heart so often? This company seems to think that avoiding black little bars at the top and bottom of 4:3 television screens makes families happy and content. Why not consider us grownups instead, who are very saddened indeed to watch movies like this with the sides cut off? Besides, what child or teenager today would tolerate viewing this movie anyhow, cropped or in letterbox format? This is definitely a film for people BORN in the fifties and sixties.
