Art imitates life in this romantic comedy, which casts Reynolds and Hawn as a successful Hollywood screenwriting team. Their harmonious working and romantic relationship goes south when they decide to get married after years of living together. Written by and based on the lives of writers Barry Levinson and Valerie Curtin, the film is a decidedly bittersweet affair: after all, Levinson and Curtin got married, then divorced, just like the characters in the movie. Consequently, there's less real humor than kidding as the relationship develops cracks, chinks, and leaks, before foundering altogether. Still, Reynolds and Hawn have a likable chemistry because neither is trying too hard. Watch for a particularly funny and crass cameo by Ron Silver, as a big-shot director they wind up working for. --Marshall Fine
This movie is timeless. I thought it was hilarious when it was first released in the theaters, and found it the same all these years later. Burt Reynolds and Goldie Hawn at their best! I would say, if you enjoyed the movie Grumpy Old Men, you will find this as entertaining. I was so happy to find it on DVD and add it to my library.
One of the most underrated films.
Most people I know have not seen this movie. In my opinion, it is very underrated. I love it. What's funny is when they visit each other's parents. Jessica Tandy plays Goldie's mom, and she is wonderful. Goldie doesn't want to sleep with Burt in her old room at her childhood home: "This is my teenage room. It's not for sexual relations, it's for slumber parties."

But if you're looking for the scene where Goldie is briefly topless in the shower, forget the DVD. Either the widescreen format cut it off or this is the later edited for TV version. Stick to the original VHS tape version.
An original Neil Simon screenplay makes Seems Like Old Times rise above what would otherwise be a forgettable comedy love triangle. Goldie Hawn (Private Benjamin) plays a good-hearted defense lawyer married to Ira, a politically ambitious district attorney played by Charles Grodin (Midnight Run). The craziness of their everyday lives becomes even more ridiculous when ex-husband Chevy Chase is framed for a bank robbery and seeks refuge with the woman he could never get over. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell got together on Swing Shift--and if that's the main reason people know about this movie, it only has itself to blame. I saw this at Movie Trading Company for $3.99 and on sale for $1.99. So I went on a big limd and bought it. I wasn't that suprised about it, it wasn't that good. Goldie Hawn did a pretty good job. The actor for the husband was a little pradictable. The ending was a suprise, but all in all a pretty good movie.
