I saw this movie a few month's ago and I was suprised, I expect it to be horrible. One thing I wish though is that MC Lyte had a bigger role (she's a great actress), I thought the other ladies were good too.
Bad Meaning Good
Civil Brand was a very good movie. When my fiance' picked it out, I was just like whatever, but I watched it anyway and was presently surprised.
It had an unexpected ending and the cast was great, Da Brat, Mos Def, LisaRaye, Nubush Wright, Lark Vorhees and many more. The acting was superb and very real. I was shocked at how they portrayed a female penitentiary.
This movie is worth watching.
Later!!!!
Don't mess with Jailed females!!!
I recall when this movie was being filmed. Lisa Raye did an interview about the movie. The film is about prison being big business. The women are being exploited, abused and enough is enough. The final straw is when one character ends up dies. Lisa Raye plays Francis Shepeard who is in prison for killing her abusive husband. She ends up heading an all out boycott on the prison conditions. Da Brat is Sabrina and she is the narrator. Which is cool, because her acting leaves much to be desired. The movie is okay, but I think the movie would have been better if we could have seen a flashback about Francis' character having to deal with her husband. The movie is okay.
Bobby Brown is in this movie. I could say more, like how some of the phrases do not belong like "chill out" let's forget you're in the "wild west" and it's hot there. Or how about instance lust worth being heartbroken and dying over. And the end, I had to watch it again with someone because I did not understand it. There were a lot of incomplete, unanswered and just plain "no one was thinking when this script was written or "acted" out. But once again I reiterate BOBBY BROWN WAS IN THIS MOVIE, personal if I had known that I would not have bought it, because after watching it [...] was too much. Instead try "Bad Girls" with Drew Barrymore and Madline Stowe, ok so there are no black people in it, but it was still a great movie. I had to come back and edit to ask, where in the Wild... I saw only a portion of this movie one morning on my way to work, and couldn't stop thinking of it all day. Needless to say I couldn't find the movie because I didn't know the name until I asked someone about a movie with Shemar Moore, Vivica Fox, then at the time I didn't know the girls name from Girlfriends, the TV show, that's exactly how I said it to him, he automatically said "Motives". I went to walmart that night and found it and purchased it.
I can say this with a smile on my face, I was surpised at the story line, and it kept my attention to the very end. Some things kind of gave you hints that everyone involved was doing something tricky, but I had no idea as to how it would end, I tell you this "Simply Outstanding" More Info about this DVD Director(s): Craig Ross Jr. DVD Release Date: Released the 24 February 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman) directed this 1993 epic about Chicano gang wars in the California prison system and the differing and tragic paths of three boyhood friends. Half-brothers Paco and Cruz grow up with their cousin Miklo in Chicano Los Angeles, and each in turn is influenced by their violent environment and the prevalence of drugs on their streets. Cruz becomes an artist but winds up tragically addicted to heroin, while Miklo serves time for murder and Paco becomes a cop, setting the stage for a confrontation between the two when Miklo is released from prison. The film strives for an epic feel but takes too long to set up its interweaving stories. It is notable, however, for some fine acting on the part of Benjamin Bratt and Damian Chiapa, as well as...
