Review(s): DVD Mantra Girl Presents - An Introduction to Kundalini Yoga and Chanting
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent
I just did this DVD this morning. I have the advanced DVD and I love this much better, but in a different way. I agree with some of the reviewers that it is not a complete beginners kriya. But what determines what is beginning and intermediate in kundalini yoga is how long the pose is done, anywhere from 1-7 minutes. I estimate that most of the poses are done for 3 minutes. Since most of the poses are done with the arms, this makes it seem like an intermediate set.
The set is to cleanse the aura. The 2 meditations at the end are wonderful. The 1st one is the "morning call" ek ong kar sat nam siri wahe guru. The second one is "har" or another name for God. Get this DVD, if you like kundalini yoga, you will like this. She doesn't talk too much, the music is nice. Other reviews complained about the outfits. But that's being ticky and besides you do kundalini yoga with your eyes closed, so who cares what they have on. I will do this DVD again and again. I dread doing the Advanced DVD because it is SO hard! One more thing, there is a pose where you are kneeling with your hands clasped behind your back and you bow forward and lean back. You end by doing camel pose for 1 minute or so with breath of fire. This so wonderful for my back!! I love love this exercise and will probably do it every morning. Sat Nam
Wonderful, exciting and EASY to follow!
I normally stick to vinyasa, but a close friend is a strong advocate of kundalini so I tried this as my first foray into kundalini and i am absolutely HOOKED!
Yes, this DVD is beautiful to watch & listen, but the critical element is the music and LACK of voice. Direction is given infrequently and, if you close your eyes when instructed, the practice flows easily and you lose the need to watch the TV and "keep up" with the practitioners on screen.
Just listen & breathe and you will have a wonderful first (or contunued) kundalini experience.
Best Chakra Balancing Yoga Workout
This is an intermediate level kundalini yoga routine. Not too easy - movements are done for more than a few moments and it requires a bit of strength and endurance to keep going and not stop. But even the beginner can do these moving postures for as long as they can and if necessary take a brief rest in between, and work up over time. Many of the moves are done while sitting cross-legged on the floor, involving such things as arm movements, twisting of the torso, or pelvic rocking motions.
I really enjoy the chakra balancing emphasis of this routine, working up through the body's energy centres one by one, opening the heart, etc. My favourite part involves the 8th chakra (auric field) surrounding the body. While that might strike some as strange, it's very effective and empowering... Simple moves which cleanse the aura of the heavy energy we invariably pick up in negative environments or just by being around people who don't make us feel good. All I can say is it works! I feel fantastic after this workout, no matter how drained or exhausted I am beforehand, it always lifts me up.
Oh and I disagree with the comment about this being a male-oriented video due to big chested class partipicants?! I only recall one woman in the class who fits that description and frankly, it wasn't something I gave any thought to before until I read the other review (but then I'm female). I prefer to focus on the task at hand, which is maintaining my yoga practice. And this routine is more fun than any of the kundalini yoga classes I've taken so far.
The DVD is a little over an hour long (I think about 1 1/4 hours) so unfortunately I don't have time to do it everyday. But I highly recommend it for anyone interested in kundalini yoga.

Having practiced ashtange yoga for some time, I thought I was strong and fit. Doing this practice made me realise that I was overestimating myself, but in a very good way. I had heard a lot about the kundalini style of yoga before, but hadn't tried it, and I was shocked at how aerobically demanding this is. If you are more of a fitness fiend than a yogi, then it might help to know that this practice works a little like interval training, with short sections of very very very strong activity followed by less frantic, more gentle stretches and then back to the frantic activity again. I now do this session twice a week and I am sure that I am 'fitter' for it, but I wouldn't give up my ashtanga or hatha practice.
I ony give this four stars rather than five simply because I feel it would be... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Adam Smalley DVD Release Date: Released the 01 September 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours

Comprehensive but user-friendly, reasonably challenging but accessible to a variety of levels, Yoga Shakti is inarguably one of the best yoga products on the market--no small achievement when one considers just how many of them there are. Instructor-creator Shiva Rea, a California-based yogi of considerable international renown, specializes in vinyasa yoga (a vinyasa is essentially a series of flowing, connected poses, incorporating breath and movement and cultivating heat, strength, flexibility, and balance). Four complete practices are presented, ranging in length from 42 to 85 minutes and including Basic Flow (for beginners), two more vigorous Solar Flow sequences, and a Lunar Flow sequence falling somewhere in the middle in terms of degree of difficulty; familiar... I have to disagree with the reviewer who did not like the Navel Power DVD. I have a feeling she is just not a yoga person. I personally do not like the type lof 6-pack look that non-yoga ab workouts produce. I like the strong nicely shaped natural abs that yoga workouts like this one produce.
Ana & Ravi's DVD's are consistently good and this one is no exception. This type of yoga will take you out of the familiar yoga you may know. You will recognize some hatha moves, but there is always something added, like special breath techniques and movement. You may be surprized at how cardio these kundalini yoga workouts can be. Cardio and spirtitual at the same time. It is an amazing combo that leaves me buzzing and feeling happy for a couple days every time I do it.
The moves are... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ravi Singh - Ana Brett DVD Release Date: Released the 01 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

I LOVE this DVD; I was going to put it on my Christmas list but could not wait after seeing the streaming video preview on the [...] website.I have been doing power yoga for 3 years & love my gym's classes, but started to need more stretch. All the strength building was making me lose my flexibility which was starting to make me feel like I am getting old and I am only in my very early 30's! Plus I was starting to get carpal tunnel from too many down dogs. This is the perfect workout for me when I can't get to the gym. Since I can't get to the gym a lot over the holidays I plan to be using this a lot in the next couple months. I think it will help me to maintain muscle while helping me to get my elasticity back.
Another holiday plus:This type of yoga always leaves me energized and... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ravi Singh - Ana Brett DVD Release Date: Released the 01 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Ok..Just when I thought I was moving to an advanced level in my practice a dvd comes along that kicks my butt! This one certainly did. I loved the variations of the poses and was glad to see that there were asanas that were not on my other dvd's. I am so tired of the Sun Salutation that is on other work outs. I have always had trouble with the lunge part of that set and this dvd cuts that part completely out. THANK YOU! It was a refreshing and tough workout and I am glad I bought it! Will be a nice complement for my other dvd's when I need to really get moving.
