Scorched has so much potential, with a great cast but it doesnt deliver. The plot involves 3 bank employees train to rob their work. The laughs arent there, and Cleese (who's usually funny) is wasted.
Boring movie!
Please don't waste your money and buy this movie. I'm a big fan of Alicia Silverstone. I have all of her movies. Unfortunately, this movie has a bad story line and it is really lame. Please save your money and buy her other movies like True Crime or Clueless. Thanks!
Mildly Amusing for a Late-Night Comedy
Doleman (Marcus Thomas) needs a job. The only problem is, he doesn't interview well and he doesn't look like someone you would want to hire. So his roommate, Schmally (Rachael Leigh Cook) gives him a makeover and drives him to an interview at the local bank, where he is actually hired! Doleman is very excited and cannot wait to start the next week, but, in the meantime, the bank's tellers have plans of their own...
There is the assistant manager, Woods (Woody Harrelson), a nature nut who lives with a duck whose mother was murdered. He makes a lousy $0.55 more per hour than the other tellers and feels that the bank owes him for his years of service. His plan is to steal the money out of a safe deposit box in the bank. The box belongs to Mr. Merchant (John Cleese), the richest man in town who made a fortune with his infomercial selling a get-rich-quick video tape that tells you how to become wealthy by selling real estate. Woods has one key, but the other key is strapped to Merchant's little yippy dog's collar. Now all Woods has to do is get the key from the dog and he is in!
Sheila (Alicia Silverstone), another teller, has just been dumped by her louse of a boyfriend, Rick (Joshua Leonard), who just happens to be the bank manager. Sheila is furious that she wasted all of her time on this jerk and she is even more upset that she paid for Rick's education and tutoring - including the tutor that Rick was now involved with! Sheila knows that Rick will be fired if the ATM machines are robbed one more time at the bank, so she comes up with a plan to do just that...
Stuart (Paulo Costanzo) is a genius who is always talking his broke, loser friend Max (David Krumholtz) out of hair-brained schemes. Who knew that one day Max might actually have a good idea? All Stuart has to do is get the $250,000 out of the mini-vault behind the tellers on a Friday night. Then they can take the money to Vegas, bet it all on one turn of the roulette wheel and his life would be changed forever! If Stuart wins, he will replace the money in the vault, if Stuart loses, he will be on the run for the rest of his life...
Three tellers with three plans to rob the bank all on the same night. None of the three know about any of the other plans and Doleman is still happily getting ready for work - until Schmally drags him out to egg Mr. Merchant's house for the crappy video that she shelled out her hard earned money for...
Scorched had the potential to be an extremely funny movie. With a talented cast and intriguing characters, this movie has it all - except a solid plot and some funny one-liners. Still, the movie does get it right at random moments and I found myself laughing quite often. The only problem is that the comedy is uneven and sometimes is too over the top to really work in the story. Also, for having so many talented comedians in the film, I have to admit that there were no real standouts as far as the cast is concerned. They all just delivered some bland, forgettable performances that they probably won't even bother to put on their resume. This movie makes for a decent rental, but I would make sure that you watch it late at night when you are tired and more likely to be forgiving...
Heartthrob Ashton Kutcher lends his mix of leading-man looks and goofball personality to the cascading disaster farce of My Boss's Daughter. Tom Stansfield (Kutcher, Just Married) thinks he's going out on a date with Lisa (Tara Reid, American Pie), the daughter of his tyrannical boss, Mr. Taylor (Terence Stamp, The Limey)--but in fact, he's unknowingly agreed to house-sit the boss's house, which is loaded with antiques, a cash-filled safe, and a depressed owl. Of course, everything goes awry, starting with the owl escaping and culminating in a drug-dealing thug being buried in the back yard while Tom drives Mr. Taylor's car through the front of the house. The supporting cast is bizarrely star-studded, including Molly Shannon, Andy Richter, Jeffrey Tambor,... Based on Susanna Moore's popular novel, In the Cut centers on Frannie (Meg Ryan), an emotionally stifled English teacher who gets steamy with sultry Malloy (Mark Ruffalo, You Can Count On Me), a cop who's investigating a series of brutal murders--but Frannie soon suspects that Malloy may be the killer. As a psychological thriller, In the Cut is heavier on psychology than thrills; the story is a skeleton that director Jane Campion (The Piano, An Angel at My Table) cloaks in one of the most nightmarish visions of urban life since Taxi Driver or Seven, accompanied by lots of explicit sex. The movie's dark tone will put some viewers off, but Ruffalo's effortless magnetism serves him well; no woman in the audience will question how quickly Ryan... Anyone who's lived in an apartment will understand the mounting frustration of Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore as they grapple with the upstairs neighbor of their worst nightmares in Duplex, directed by Danny DeVito. Stiller and Barrymore play a young couple who think they've found the home of their dreams when they buy an astonishingly spacious Brooklyn duplex. Unfortunately, the second floor comes with a tenant, a seemingly sweet little old lady (Eileen Essell). Her petty demands and manipulative ways drive Stiller and Barrymore to desperate attempts to oust her--and when she breezily resists their worst efforts, the hapless pair begin to consider more serious (and final) measures. Duplex might be called a comedy of anxiety; it constantly pricks at your expectations of... Based on the bestseller by John Grisham, Runaway Jury is a slick thriller that's exciting enough to overcome the gaps in its plot. The ultimate target has been changed: Grisham's legal assault on the tobacco industry was switched to the hot-button issue of gun control (no doubt to avoid comparison to The Insider) in a riveting exposé of jury-tampering. Gene Hackman plays the ultra-cynical, utterly unscrupulous pawn of the gun-makers, using an expert staff and advanced electronics to hand-pick a New Orleans jury that will return a favorable verdict; Dustin Hoffman (making his first screen appearance with real-life former roommate Hackman) defends the grieving widow of a gun-shooting victim with idealistic zeal, while maverick juror John Cusack and accomplice Rachel Weisz... A sleek George Clooney and a seductive Catherine Zeta-Jones square off magnificently in the divorce comedy Intolerable Cruelty. The plot is simple: Lawyer supreme Miles Massey (Clooney, Out of Sight, Ocean's Eleven) skillfully outmaneuvers gold-digger Marylin Rexroth (Zeta-Jones, Chicago, Traffic) when she divorces her wealthy husband--and she sets out to get revenge. But this movie comes from the creative minds of the Coen Brothers (Fargo, Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou?), and so Intolerable Cruelty includes a Scottish wedding chapel in Vegas, an asthmatic hit man, fluffy-dog-stroking European nobility, and a legendarily unbreakable pre-nuptial agreement. Still, it's pretty restrained for the Coens; smooth and...
