    The Phantom of Soho DVD

On the dark, foggy back-streets of Soho, people are being stalked and murdered. Sansibar, the most popular brothel / stripclub is the center of suspicion as the body count increases. Owned and operated by the mysterious Joanna, Sansibar attracts both Lords and losers alike. Why are certain patrons being stabbed through the heart, and left with money or other valuables in their hands and pockets? What connection is there between the victims? Inspector Patton (Dieter Borsche) is on the case, running down clues, trying to catch the nefarious phantom before he / she strikes again. This is a fairly gritty german film about Soho. It's well written, performed, and directed. I was (pleasantly) surprised by some topless scenes, as well as an unmentioned widescreen presentation! I found the... More Info about this DVD

    The Virgin of Nuremberg DVD

AKA "Horror Castle", this rarely seen German-Italian horror film has been handled well and is a find for collectors. Dubbed in English and directed by Antonio Margheriti ("Castle of Blood"), it concerns a new bride (Rosana Podesta) discovering the eyeless corpse of a woman inside an ancient iron maiden (the "Virgin") in her husband's ancestral castle on the Rhine. Told by everyone it was just a nightmare, she suspects something more and sure enough discovers Christopher Lee (as Erik), a war disfigured handyman, acting suspiciously around some antique surgical instruments. Later, the sinister housekeeper balefully informs her that an infamous ancestor, "the Punisher", is back and bent on torturing and killing "shameless women". There is a mysterious costumed and hooded figure running... More Info about this DVD

Dead Eyes of London Ghost DVD

I bought this because I wanted a better print of "The Ghost" on DVD. It's a rare Italian horror film with Barbara Steele that's a follow up to the classic "Terror of Dr.Hitchcock". Extremely moody and eerie and saturated with Gothic atmosphere, it features Steele at her best as both vixen and victim. While Retromedia's print does look better, it is by far not the best. There are bad scratches on the print throughout. The second feature on this disc is a soft and dupey print of "Dead Eyes of London". This is a low-budget German remake of Lugosi's 1939 thriller "The Human Monster". Both films are based on a story by Edgar Wallace. "Dead Eyes" is a murder mystery or "krimi" that features a Tor Johnson type blind brute following orders and kidnapping wealthy older men. It is neither scary nor... More Info about this DVD
