Review(s): DVD Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series
Great Show, just missing a disk
The product is awesome, I loved the old Battlestar Gallacitca series, but I paid for a full set of disks and was missing one.
Almost Perfect DVD Set
I can't say what other reviewers have said enough: this set is fantastic. After years of seeing these episodes edited on SciFi Channel, to have them on DVD uncut with digitally remastered audio and video is a wonderful treat, especially with all of the special features, including several hours of deleted scenes and outtakes.
My one major complaint is about the pilot episode. The nice thing is that it is FINALLY presented in uncut form. For years, the only version was a truncated, edited movie version or you could watch in SciFi Channel with different scenes removed than the video version. The pilot here is uncut, thankfully, but has not been restored in any way shape or form. Some scenes are filled with grain, holes in the picture and the sharpness and clarity of scenes shot in red-light of the Galactica's bridge look atrocious and are terribly out of focus. Seeing as several versions of the pilot existed, I was hoping that a full-restoration would be present and it is not
The quality of the rest of the set almost makes up for this major flaw. Enjoy!
Classic Science Fiction Series.
I was 11 years old when the original Battlestar Galactica premiered on ABC in 1978. I watched the show religiously until it was cancelled by the network. I even watched the short-lived Galactica 1980 series, although I was disappointed that Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict (except for one episode), Herb Jefferson and Laurette Spang did not return in that show. And while I do enjoy the "re-imagined" BSG series now running on SCI-FI, I love the original series and remain a fan. After a Pearl Harboresque attack by the Cylons against the twelve colonial worlds of the human race and their defense fleet, the last remaining battlestar, the Galactica, leads a fleet carrying the survivors of the attack in search of a new home on a legendary far-away planet known as Earth. Several cast members turned in outstanding performances, most notably Lorne Greene as Commander Adama and John Colicos as Baltar. And then there's the roll call of guest stars: Lloyd Bridges, Fred Astaire, Ray Bolger, Rick Springfield, Patrick Macnee, Jane Seymour and Ray Milland, to name a few. Watching this series again has brought back a lot of great childhood memories for this science fiction fan. Battlestar Galactica remains one of my favorite science fiction television series in both its new and original forms. I wholeheartedly recommend this DVD set for BSG fans, both old and young, and to open-minded fans of the new series as well.

Star Wars meets Wagon Train as a futuristic flotilla of ragtag explorers search for a mysterious savior planet known only as "Earth," while being pursued by the dreaded Cylons (cybernetic tin-can baddies with vocal patterns that closely resemble a Speak & Spell game). This theatrical feature culled from the first and fourth episodes of the fondly remembered TV show is hilariously dated (the preponderance of polyester outfits and astrology motifs have the unfortunate effect of making the future look like an giant interstellar singles bar), but that only adds to the retro charm. An irresistibly cheesy blast from the past for Gen-X nostalgia-hounds, with impressive visuals by effects legend John Dykstra and a special appearance by teenybopper guru Rick Springfield. --Andrew... Despite voluminous protest and nitpicking criticism from loyal fans of the original 1978-80 TV series, the 2003 version of Battlestar Galactica turned out surprisingly well for viewers with a tolerance for change. Originally broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel in December 2003 and conceived by Star Trek: The Next Generation alumnus Ronald D. Moore as the pilot episode for a "reimagined" TV series, this four-hour "miniseries" reprises the basic premise of the original show while giving a major overhaul (including some changes in gender) to several characters and plot elements. Gone are the flowing robes, disco-era hairstyles, and mock-Egyptian fighter helmets, and thankfully there's not a fluffy "daggit" in sight... at least, not yet. Also missing are the "chrome toaster" Cylons,... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Michael Rymer DVD Release Date: Released the 28 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos wasn't kidding when he said "the series is even better than the miniseries." As developed by sci-fi TV veteran Ronald D. Moore, the "reimagined" BG is exactly what it claims to be: a drama for grown-ups in a science-fiction setting. The mature intelligence of the series is its greatest asset, from the tenuous respect between Galactica's militarily principled commander Adama (Olmos) and politically astute President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) to the barely suppressed passion between ace Viper pilot "Apollo" (a.k.a. Adama's son Lee, played by Jamie Bamber) and the brashly insubordinate Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff), whose multifaceted character is just one of many first-season highlights. Picking up where the miniseries ended (it's included... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 20 September 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

With its campy combination of lightweight adventure and Spandex disco chic, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century is a nostalgic throwback to post-Star Wars opportunism. Series co-creator Glen A. Larson was incapable of originality, and former soap star Gil Gerard (in the title role) was a bland incarnation of the comic-strip hero, so the much-anticipated series premiered on September 20, 1979, with serious disadvantages. Although the two-hour pilot "Awakening" had tested successfully as a theatrical release, Gerard and the show's producers could never agree on a stable tone for the series, which presents Capt. William "Buck" Rogers as a jovial space cowboy who is accidentally time-warped from 1987 to 2491. Earth is engaged in interplanetary war following a global holocaust, and... The first and only spin-off of Babylon 5, J. Michael Straczynski's short-lived sci-fi series Crusade had its roots in the B5 television movie A Call to Arms, in which Earth was battling a Drakh invasion at the end of the Shadow Wars. When Crusade begins, the Drakh have released a deadly virus that threatens to wipe out all 10 billion humans living on Earth unless a cure can be found in five years. To take on this monumental task, Captain Matthew Gideon (Gary Cole) is assigned command of the state-of-the-art Destroyer-class ship Excalibur. His crew includes telepath John Matheson (Daniel Dae Kim); pompous but brilliant archaeologist-linguist Max Eilerson (David Allen Brooks); Dureena, a member of the Thieves' Guild and the last surviving member...
