The new version of the DVD is a ton better then the horrid Goodtimes release. The disc is in Anamorphic Widescreen and the sound quality is really decent. No real extras except a trailer. Not a Blockbuster film but still decent. Hope this helps.
Great movie released by wrong company
I have the VHS tape of this movie & will continue to own it while this Goodtimes version of this great movie is on the shelf. I have not watched this movie for the fact that Goodtimes will screw up a good movie with bad quality picture, sound, & all around basics. The movie itself is great to watch with Weller & Elliott in the action scenes & the story is just all in your face. The only problem is this movie was not released by MCA Home Video, if it had been you would have a great movie on DVD instead of this blurred & muffled sound version.
Cuts???
I swear when I saw this in the cinema there was areally hot sex scene between Weller and Charbonneau, but it's been completely cut in the DVD. ...
A slick, sometimes over the top action adventure set in New York City during the end of the disco era, Nighthawks stars Sylvester Stallone as a hotshot New York cop with a troubled personal life drawn into an international terrorist vendetta. Stallone and partner Billy Dee Williams are recruited into a covert operation to stop an infamous terrorist named Wulfgar (Rutger Hauer), whom they believe to be in New York. Soon a cat-and-mouse game ensues between the blue-collar cop and the refined terrorist through the streets, discotheques, and subways of the city. And then things get personal as Wulfgar targets Stallone's wife (Lindsay Wagner). A fairly routine but well-photographed action thriller with the usual fast-paced adrenaline rush sequences for which Stallone has become famous.... With the title Shoot to Kill -- I was waiting for Jonathan Knox to pull out his rifle [like in Sniper] but ah well.
FBI agent Warren Stantin [Poitier] had the obnoxious attitude that went with twenty years on the force, believing he could keep up and survive in the wilderness with Knox.
The lead up to our villian's disappearence into the wilderness was quite excellent. His evasion tactics were unpredictable. [I didn't see it coming].
I could see Sarah becoming his hostage and she did a good job of trekking through the mountain byways to a highway.
Still had to hold my breath for her safety.
Climbing the rock walls and living through the blizzard added a depth to the bonding of these two men. So different from each other in their... Clean but full of action and violence [layed to human nature]-- No overly done female traipsing through to spoil the action. Excellent macho performance by Kieffer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips [as should be expected]. Story line still had enough punch to make it interesting. Hate to say it, a great acting job by the top nasty - couldn't stand the guy. Would have liked a commentary about the actors and the work they put into their roles. I would definitely recommend this movie and will certainly watch it over again. One of those movies that helped usher out the era of action films that had plots that made any sense (and also helped reverse the direction of Patrick Swayze's career arc), Road House concerns a handsome, existential bouncer in a rinky-dink honky-tonk who owns both a degree in philosophy and a Mercedes. And that's perhaps the most believable aspect of the whole movie. Swayze stars as Dalton, "the best bouncer in the business," who runs afoul of Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the meanest SOB round these parts, by taking up with his former girlfriend, Doc (Kelly Lynch)--the only woman in town with an IQ approaching double digits, even if she had unfathomably hooked up with such a lowlife. Swayze had complained about being typecast as beefcake when this was made, but that didn't stop him from... A fast talking smart mouth cop investigates a cocaine ring who specalizes in a lethal form of cocaine and sells it to the highest bidder. Basically what the viewer has here is the female version of BEVERLY HILLS COP With Goldberg having the same dialouge Eddie Murphy had. The violence and bloodflow never stops from the opening scene right to the climatic finale. The best part was the massive shoot out in the mall. The film has one weak point Sam Elliot, wasn;t really convincing as a bodyguard who ends up falling for Goldberg. Whoopi Goldberg pulled off a very funny genuine performance. The film is worth seeing and is much, much better than BURGLER realased the same year.
