Review(s): DVD Sesame Street Big Block Bundle (48 volume set) Amazon.com Exclusive
Children's viewing at it's best.
You cannot go wrong with this bundle. I grew up in the 70's and 80's watching Sesame Street. My son has been watching Sesame Street since he was 11 months old and has learnt so much from the shows. We are fortunate in Australia the show is aired weekdays, the only down side is we only have a few of the dvd's available to purchase. So I didn't hestitate in purchasing them from "AMAZON". You won't be disappointed, this is children's viewing at it's best, and you too will enjoy watching Elmo and friends on Sesame Street.
Elmo Overload
These DVDs are extremely educational and was a very good buy, however, there is too much Elmo. When I saw the 1969 in brackets, I was expecting actual episodes from that time onwards. You know, with Mr. Hooper and Bob etc. There are too few of these. The old introductory music wasn't there either. It was a kill joy for me who grew up on Sesame Street in the 70s in the Caribbean but all in all it was still an excellent buy because my children absolutley love them and they are the ones who they are really for. I would definitely recommend them to everyone, especially in the UK because they don't show Sesame Street here, only rubbish like Teletubbies where one learns to say, "Uh oh." And nothing else. So guys, buy this box set!!

Kids' Favorite Songs kicks off with a cackle-worthy parody of Bob Dylan doing "Old McDonald," and from there the groovy gags keep comin' 'round the mountain. Everywhere Elmo turns on Sesame Street monsters spontaneously burst into song, and all because they want him to feature their favorite tunes on his forthcoming radio countdown. For Telly, winnowing the hits to one is akin to Cookie Monster choosing between a macaroon and a figgie bar: at first he's sure that "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" lights his fire, but then he says bye-bye to a black sheep. The street heaves a collective sigh pavementward when word comes down that the countdown is strictly a numbers gig, no music involved. Only Sesame Street could weave well-loved musical numbers around a simple numbers lesson with such... For my now three year old, when Steve went away he was so sad that he didn't really take to Joe. He had mostly watched re runs on noggin. And for nearly a year now, he did not like to watch Blue's clues, because he know Steve has gone away or will leave. But after watching this episode, he was so excited to see Joe as a baby, and Steve as a young boy -- exactly the age group that appeals to 3 to 4 year olds, and he watched with a 4 yr old friend, and both absolutely loved it. And, to my relief, its brought back his love of blue. And he is so thrilled to see those bonus episodes -- "Steve is all grown up now! He's a big boy!" that it has brought the concept of growing home to him like nothing else.
My son who is almost two years old is in love with Blue and with Steve. I can't rate this DVD high enough. Steve is so genuine and engaging that he is totally convincing in the role. (We also have one of the newer videos with Joe, and my son covers his eyes and cries whenever Joe is on.) These original, "Classic" Blue's Clues are sheer perfection. I feel like my son is actually being exposed to something valuable and educational when he watches these. And he clearly finds them highly entertaining. I can not recommend Blue's Room (complete nonscence) or the newer Blue's Clues with Joe (they added bells and whistles to the format and it is not as good). I agree completely with the other reviewer who stated that they should release more episodes of the original Blue's Clues with Steve... Celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with Caillou and his family. Caillou receives a special advent calendar from his parents to count down the days until Christmas, and each night Caillou and his parents open a flap to discover a new picture of a holiday celebration somewhere in the world. As the family talks about different Christmas traditions, Caillou learns that a young boy in Germany started the tradition of the Christmas tree, that English school children made the first Christmas cards, and that Christmas stockings (and shoes) figure prominently in holiday celebrations in France and Hungary. He also learns about Hanukkah and the lighting of the Menorah from his friend Leo. As Caillou and his family enjoy their own holiday traditions, they discover the universal importance of... I bought this for my daughter when she was about 18 months and at first she wasn't interested. I pulled it back out a few months later, when she was about 22 months, and this is now her absolute favorite. We watch it every day and she gets a workout doing all the dances and singing the songs. She takes my hand and wants to do the dances together. It is now our routine to have dance time every evening! It is challenging enough that she still has dances to master and fun enough that a real little one can jump around and participate!
