DVD The Jetsons - The Complete First Season
The Jetsons (1962) was the third primetime series from the Hanna-Barbera Studio, after The Flintstones (1960) and Top Cat (1961). Although the show was cancelled after its first season, it proved a durable Saturday-morning favorite, running for more than 14 years on all three networks.
Like The Flintstones, The Jetsons borrowed heavily from live-action sitcoms, notably The Donna Reed Show and Hazel. The 21st century became a Futurelux vision of a '60s suburb. George Jetson (voiced by George O'Hanlon) pushed buttons for the penny-pinching Mr. Spacely (Mel Blanc). Judy (Janet Waldo) was a typical teenager with a crush on rock & roll singer Jet Screamer. Elroy (Daws Butler) was a bright little boy whose experiments always blew up. Astro (Don Messick) was one of the first anthropomorphic dogs that became a Hanna-Barbera standard. Jane (Penny Singleton, basically reprising her role in the Blondie films) kept everyone and everything on course. The Flintstones used rocks and animals to approximate everyday appliances; The Jetsons had high-tech gadgets that invariably malfunctioned and clobbered George.
Aside from two commentaries by Waldo and a short making-of video with old footage of Hanna and Barbera, the DVD set has little in the way of extras: no bumpers, commercials, etc. The Jetsons hardly ranks as great animation, but for anyone who grew up during the '60s and '70s, these discs are the comforting video equivalent of a slice of yellow cake with fudge frosting and a glass of milk. Review(s): DVD The Jetsons - The Complete First Season
Great Set........SO where's season two?
I ordered this from the internet the other day,and I cant tell you how anxious I was to get this amazing set. The Jetsons are not as good The Flintstones plot wise, but this family is just as lovable. At the speed Warner Brothers are releasing The Flintstones, they've completely forgot about even releasing Jetsons season two. Maybe they are doing the sets one decade at a time since The Flintstones and every other 60s DVD set are getting released now, because Josie and the Pussycats havent been released yet. Season two of The Jetsons was released in the late 80s so who knows when the season two will come, but I rather have the classic episodes more than the equally good 80s episodes. For one thing, the 60s episodes dont have the cornball back ground music of all 80s shows.Warner Bros think that just beacause they released a few sets that they can stop working.WRONG.......! STOP SLOUCHING AROUND WARNER BROTHERS
The Future was then
I still can't believe there were only 24 episodes of the Jetsons. This show was always on when I was a kid. How many times did I see these episodes? 100? It's nice to have the boxset so that I can work myself from the first to the last episode in order and know that I have seen them all.
While they're not as popular as the Flintstones, I enjoyed seeing the future according to Hanna-Barbera. When will I get a space car that turns into a briefcase?
The bonus features aren't that amazing. But I'm happy with the set at the new lower price.
Back to the future!
It's great that all of these "classic" TV shows are now on DVD. They give me a chance to relive the good old days and when I show them to my little girl I know they're cute, wholesome & won't force her to grow up too soon! The best part is singing along with the theme song together. The Flintstones are next! Yabadabbadoo!

Meet The Flintstones in this prehistoric Hanna-Barbera production. Primetime's first animated series was also the longest running until The Simpsons came along. Not so coincidentally, the two shows aren't all that different--even if the former emerged in the sixties, the latter in the eighties. Fred (Alan Reed), patriarch of the cave-dwelling clan, may be marginally more intelligent than the similarly blue collar Homer, but most storylines still revolve around his more dunderheaded moves. Fortunately, wife Wilma (Jean Vander Pyl) and Barney (Mel Blanc) and Betty Rubble (Bea Benaderet), their neighbors, are usually able to set things right. That was also true for Ralph Cramden of The Honeymooners, a direct influence (Reed even sounds like Jackie Gleason).... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Charles A. I could hardly wait to add The Flintstones season 2 to my dvd collection!!! I just adored the episode of Alvin Brickrock, which is a pretty funny parody of Alfred Hitchcock, "Good Evening"! I could'nt help watching the episode when Fred became a bus driver over and over. The scene when he picks up the kids and meets their crazy parents is too funny!
My only complaint is the lack of decent extras. Eventhough all the original actors are no longer living, it would have been nice for Warner Bros. to include a tribute remembering Alan Reed,Mel Blanc, Bea Benaderette, and Jean Vanderpyl. Fortunately I was able to do a major search on the internet for biographies on each actor and see what they all looked like. Oh well I suppose it's more important for Warner Bros. to make a fast buck than... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 07 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Baby boomers of a certain age, and anyone fond of classic Hanna Barbera cartoons, might find the 40-year-old episodes in Jonny Quest: The Complete First Season an exciting blast from the past. Five years before Hanna Barbera made a comedy about amateur youths solving exotic mysteries in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, the animation giant captured a more serious spirit from a different era in Jonny Quest. The series played on primetime television--a very big deal for animation at the time--in 1964, and was infused with energy from sundry pop trends as well as cold war paranoia and a prevailing belief in limitless technology (largely inspired by America's race to the moon). Part intelligence thriller, part science fiction, Jonny Quest made a child's adventure out of... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Charles A. I have some of the fondest memories of watching Top Cat when I was living in Mexico, but owning this set is one of the best investments I have made to share with my daughters a little bit of what entertainment used to be.
Though I could hear the original English soundband, the outstanding cast of voices in Spanish makes it even more delightful to watch. The translation is superb and the jokes do not lose a single bit. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 07 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours
