DVD Summer School
A weak, lazy comedy about an easygoing teacher (Mark Harmon, whose movie career never had the kind of trajectory that his TV work did) who is forced to teach--you guessed it--summer school. What's worse, he gets exactly the kind of kids you'd expect: the losers and slackers who are forced to make up the work they didn't complete during the year. He tries to duck work and let them fend for themselves. But in this mushy Carl Reiner film, the teacher offers some life lessons to his band of delinquents and--surprise, surprise--the kids impart a lesson or two to their teacher, as well. Harmon coasts through the film on his good looks, which are considerable. --Marshall Fine
Everey white male teenage outcast should be able to identify with ''Dave'' and ''Chainsaw''..the pure 80's METAL idiot's they are(check that Maiden shirt and Trench coat on ''Chainsaw'' ..circa '87'!!!) Plenty of ''TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE'' refernece's as well..which rulezz!!
A lot of stupid crap..but is that not expected??
When that Italian girl come's in as an ''exchange student'' and she is well built in the chest area..I almost died laughing..because of course ''Dave'' and ''Chainsaw'' try to ''WOO'' her..classic stuff!!
Make sure to see this if you dig the 80's..always a real fun movie to watch!!
WTF ever happened to the 80's?? IT DIED!! AND IT SUCKS!! Here is a glimpse into how high school was back then..before those Columbine JOOZ ruined high school for future kid's!!
WATCH IT!!
A disgrace
As a Christian I was dismayed to see a film for sale about a high-school gym teacher who has big plans for the summer, but is forced to cancel them to teach a "bonehead" English class for misfit goof-off students and then who fortunately, due to his unconventional brand of teaching fun field trips begins to connect with them, and even inspires ardor in some. This is not the kind of thing which Jesus would approve of. The children should be reading the Bible and not watching films about a high-school gym teacher who has big plans for the summer, but is forced to cancel them to teach a "bonehead" English class for misfit goof-off students and who fortunately, due to his unconventional brand of teaching fun field trips begins to connect with them, and even inspires ardor in some. For shame.
I love this movie very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very much!
There's no denying that this was one of those movies that shaped a generation of delinquaints (myself included). It is the pinnacle of 80's movies. You shoudl definitley buy it and enjoy all the fun, as the wacky teacher tries to teach English.
The brief 1980s mania surrounding "the Coreys" peaked with License to Drive, a modest but surprisingly still enjoyable adventure comedy. Les (Corey Haim, Lucas) has a chance to date his dream girl, Mercedes (Heather Graham, Boogie Nights, in her first significant movie role)--but he's just failed his driving exam. Motivated by a mixture of pride and hormones, he steals his grandfather's Cadillac and heads out on the town with Mercedes for a night that swiftly becomes an escalating series of disasters, made worse by the foolhardy antics of Les' best friend Dean (Corey Feldman, Stand by Me). Despite some egregious '80s fashion disasters (Graham gets the worst of them), License to Drive holds up surprisingly well--it's no work of genius, but it is a solidly... This statement can probably best describe Patrick Dempsey currently, but those who remember him in his earlier works only associate it with "Can't Buy Me Love". Dempsey stars in the story of a nerd who buys himself popularity only to fall in too deep with his new inflated ego. With countless memorable scenes and a touching (and yes corny) ending, this movie is clearly up there as far as teen 80's flicks. Dempsey shines as the desperate Ronald Miller looking for what he believes will provide happiness. His goofy ways are ever present in the big dance where he "introduces" the school to a new dance. Amanda Peterson and Courtney Gains round out a solid cast. More Info about this DVD Director(s): Steve Rash DVD Release Date: Released the 13 August 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

Way before she grabbed an Oscar nomination for her searing performance as a world-weary prostitute in Leaving Las Vegas, Elisabeth Shue was known as one of the squeaky-clean actresses of the '80s. Having made a splash in The Karate Kid and the '60s-nostalgia TV series Call to Glory, Shue cemented her good-girl reputation with the charming but badly titled Adventures in Babysitting. Set in the John Hughes-style suburbs of Chicago, the titular adventures follow babysitter Chris (Shue), who agrees to watch the Anderson kids (Keith Coogan and Maia Brewton) when her boyfriend cancels their anniversary date. All is quiet on the home front until Chris is called upon to rescue her best friend (Penelope Ann Miller, also doing good-girl duty) from the seedy... Though marketed as a raunchy teen sex comedy à la Porky's, Just One of the Guys is an amusing and well-acted comic riff on gender roles. Believing that she's lost a journalism contest because she's a woman, high school student Joyce Hyser disguises herself as a boy in order to see how the other half lives. Her investigation leads her to discover some interesting truths about how men and women treat each other in social and romantic situations. The screenplay by coproducers Jeff Franklin (a veteran TV scribe) and Dennis Feldman nicely balances the sex-driven gags with more character-driven material, which is well delivered by Hyser, Clayton Rohner as her eccentric pal, and especially Billy Jacoby as her perpetually aroused brother; the capable cast also includes... After dominating the teen-movie genre for the bulk of the 1980s, writer-producer (and sometimes director) John Hughes proved that he had at least one good movie left in him before squandering his talent on lame comedies throughout the 1990s. Like The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful treated its teenaged characters like real people with real feelings, hopes, fears, and desire. Mary Stuart Masterson gives a great performance as a tomboy drummer named Watts who's secretly in love with her best friend, Keith (Eric Stoltz), an aspiring artist who is oblivious to her affection because he's got a crush on Amanda (Lea Thompson), the popular high school beauty. Watts will even go so far as to chauffeur a date for Keith and Amanda, if only to...
