I'm amazed I'd never heard of this film before. I bought it because I love Michael J. Fox and it looked like a funny movie. I was very impressed by it! Even though it was obviously a TV movie (there are fades for commercials still intact) and it is pretty low budget in terms of any kind of stunts or special effects, it's really funny and sports a great cast. In addition to Fox, you've got Anthony Edwards, Crispin Glover, Jon Gries, and half a dozen more recognizable names. The movie itself is really funny. It's about a guy (Fox) who likes a girl (Nancy McKeon), but she's dating the self-proclaimed king of the school (Edwards). Edwards' character and his cronies really give Fox's character (and the other non-kings) a hard time. So it's up to the underdogs to prove that kings don't belong in high schools. It's a great movie about friendship and there's even a drag race for an added bit of high school movie fun. Despite its moments of cheesiness, this is a real treat and I'd definitely recommend it.
an 80's must have!
I've been trying to find this movie for years! Another 80's classic, you'll be laughing all through the movie...."I'm getting my licence on Friday" is a classic line. This is a rare movie and a great classic to own.
Once of the best teen tv-movies of the 80s
Back in the 1980s, NBC had the midas touch when it came to making TV movies with the top teen stars of the period. This was the first of many: High School USA. It's also amazing because at the time, the teens of the cast were top stars:
Michael J. Fox (Family Ties) Nancy McKeon (The Facts of Life) Todd Bridges (Diff'rent Strokes) Dana Plato (Diff'rent Strokes) Crystal Bernard (Happy Days) Lauri Hendler (Gimme a Break) Cathy Silvers (Happy Days)
Even some up and comers like Crispin Glover and Anthony Edwards have notable roles. This wasn't only an 80s teenfest. It features some of the teen actors of the 50s and 60s, all who made welcomed returns to acting through this film. It has a funny plot and entangles many subplots. If you are a fan of 80s teen flicks, then get this one. It's fun to watch.
Though marketed as a raunchy teen sex comedy à la Porky's, Just One of the Guys is an amusing and well-acted comic riff on gender roles. Believing that she's lost a journalism contest because she's a woman, high school student Joyce Hyser disguises herself as a boy in order to see how the other half lives. Her investigation leads her to discover some interesting truths about how men and women treat each other in social and romantic situations. The screenplay by coproducers Jeff Franklin (a veteran TV scribe) and Dennis Feldman nicely balances the sex-driven gags with more character-driven material, which is well delivered by Hyser, Clayton Rohner as her eccentric pal, and especially Billy Jacoby as her perpetually aroused brother; the capable cast also includes... A weak, lazy comedy about an easygoing teacher (Mark Harmon, whose movie career never had the kind of trajectory that his TV work did) who is forced to teach--you guessed it--summer school. What's worse, he gets exactly the kind of kids you'd expect: the losers and slackers who are forced to make up the work they didn't complete during the year. He tries to duck work and let them fend for themselves. But in this mushy Carl Reiner film, the teacher offers some life lessons to his band of delinquents and--surprise, surprise--the kids impart a lesson or two to their teacher, as well. Harmon coasts through the film on his good looks, which are considerable. --Marshall FineMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Mark Harmon - Kirstie Alley Director(s): Carl Reiner DVD Release Date: Released the 01 June 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

It was one of those "something in the air" moments in Hollywood. In the space of a year, four different films came out on the same subject: A kid lands in an adult's body (and, often, vice versa--get it?). The best was Big, but this one was surprisingly amusing, thanks to a goofily adolescent performance by Judge Reinhold (as the kid in an adult's body) and a comically serious one by young Fred Savage, who can convey the sense of an grownup trapped in a kid's world. The plot is virtually identical to its competitors--overworked Dad has a big deadline and has to rely on the unreliable kid to come through for him, even as he gets a sense of what his son's life is like--but Reinhold and Savage charm their way through it. --Marshall FineMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Judge Reinhold - Fred Savage Director(s): Brian Gilbert DVD Release Date: Released the 27 April 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Patrick Dempsey had an usual niche in the 80s teen comedy, as did the characters he played. He was the lovable loser who just wanted to fit in, somehow ends up getting caught up in some smutty encounter or another on his quest for acceptance, but is well liked and tended to have everything mostly work out for him in the end. Here was no acception.
He plays the lovable loser once again, this time he was an arrogant, cocky kid who blew his education by doing nothing but partying at college. Disappointed and angry at his failing grades, his parents decide to stop supporting him and he is forced into the minimum wage workforce at a pizza place. While Patrick is thoughly miserable working for slave labor, he encounters a beautiful, mysterious stranger who (like the plot to a...
