DVD Red Sonja
Brigitte Nielsen, as Conan creator Robert E. Howard's female warrior Red Sonja, gets an assist from Arnold Schwarzenegger in this enjoyably campy, Italian-lensed sword & sorcery adventure. Nielsen's thespian skills may be a bit stiff, but she certainly fills out the physical demands of the role, which asks her to look impressive with a sword as she avenges the death of her priestess sister and the theft of a sacred orb by an evil queen (Sandahl Bergman, also from the '82 theatrical Conan and a match for Nielsen's acting ability). Schwarzenegger (not playing Howard's barbarian king) lends some star power in a supporting role as a warrior assisting Sonja, and if the film stumbles in the acting, scripting, and special-effects departments, Richard Fleischer's direction and cinematography Giuseppe Rotunno are appropriately action-heavy and comic-book colorful (Fleischer also directed Conan the Destroyer and The Vikings); Ennio Morricone's bombastic score is another plus. --Paul Gaita
You have to have this one in order to complete your collection of the 3 Conan movies. The actres that played Conan Valeria in the first movie, is the villaines in Red Sonia.
I'll Take This "B" Movie Over A Coma Anyday
I've seen hundreds of Sci Fi movies over the years. This is one of those you'll wonder whether you've watched it or not a few years down the road. You just can't remember.
All in all, I figure it's still better to watch a so-so Sci Fi movie than "Dances With Wolves" or "Evita". This movie will end up being non-memorable, but it's preferable to being in a coma.
With a name like Red Sonja, it HAS to be good!
Firstly, anyone who takes this movie seriously has got a whole lotta issues! I love this movie! I grew up watching Red Sonja and thinking she was the strongest, coolest super karate warrior swordswoman on the planet! There are moments when it seems as if the entire movie just sort says "ok, that's all we got" and shows the surrounding country for way too long, (which is why I gave it 4 stars) but it was the 80's, people! If you're reading this review right now you're about 20 years too late to think the "special" effects are anything less than ridiculous! In an attempt to be honest, however, it is not quite worth the retail value price.Pay less for it or you'll feel kinda stupid (Best Buy- 6 or 7 dollars!) but no matter what, if you want a cheesy movie to sit and make fun of, and you're in the mood for some serious sword-swinging chick fight action, this is it! Buy it- if nothing else, it'll add a little spice to your dvd collection!
The "Complete" set was one disc. It looked like they'd planned to make it more originally, based on the packaging, but no, we have one disc. CtB on one side and CtD on the other. The special features were okay, but not impressive. If you're in the mood for a laugh, listen to the commentary. Some people apparently only make sense when reading a script, shall we say? It's worth the amount paid for it, but it wasn't what I was expecting from something that was supposed to be definitive. This movie has a TON of stupid crap that would never have happened back in the OLDEN TIME's..but it still get's me in near tear's to think about WAR and PURE land..and TANYA ROBERTS!!! she is by far the most GORGEOUS woman I have ever seen..I really cant even go on in my life without her..but I have no choice!! I am to young for her.. to track her down and pledge my SOUL to her!!
This move has KILLER fight secene's and is a very UNDERRATED Viking style flick!!
And you'll notice Tanya's LOVE intrest was a BLOND guy!!!! not the black guy!!! SEE THAT IS 1982 for ya!!!!! UN ''P.C.'' I love movie's that are UN ''P.C'' becuase they are more REAL that way!!!

After scoring a hit with the Eddie Murphy-Nick Nolte cop thriller 48 Hours, director Walter Hill returned to the buddy formula with this half-ridiculous, half-invigorating action flick about humorless Russian cop Ivan Danko (Arnold Schwarzenegger). He follows a drug dealer from Moscow to Chicago, where he's matched up with city cop Art Ridzik (James Belushi), whose work ethic is considerably more relaxed. Most of the humor revolves around Danko's grumpy reaction to good ol' American capitalism, while Ridzik urges him to chill out.
