I have seen BELLS ARE RINGING with Dean Martin and BELLS OF ST MARY'S with Bing Crosby and this movie is better than both of them. The only thing it lacks, that the other two BELLS movies have, is some strong singing by good male singers. But for action, suspense, martial arts and Christianity, this movie outdoes BELLS ARE RINGING for sure, and it squeaks by the ultra-religious BELLS OF ST MARY'S by a nose, for its dark story of Stan taking over all the members of a little Mexican town is rather scary, which I liked. However, some singing would have been good because Chuck Norris has a great voice. And the film's composer, Amin Emam, knows how to write a good melody when he wants to. Between Amin Emam and Alin Bijan, the director, I get mixed up with the names of the principal... This movie is by far one of my favorites but you can't take it seriously. In the movie, Chuck's protege "Deke Slater" nabs the terrorist leader Fidal Rasheed by sky-diving out of a stealth fighter over Afganistan and hang-gliding from southern Afganistan to the Indian Ocean in 5 minutes, where a nuclear submarine comes out of nowhere to rescue him. Chuck Norris seems to have forgotten that Afganistan is a landlocked country! The flag-waving (for both America and the great state of Texas) is hilarious. And Chuck Norris tries to take on a Yoda figure role by teaching Deke about using the "mind's eye" to sense his opponents and do things "never thought humanly possible". Chuck Norris plays a detective haunted by a run-in with a serial killer that nearly cost him his life. That was a year ago, and he's now moving in with the therapist, pregnant with his baby, who helped him to deal with his encounter with the killer. But of course it isn't over. Through an apparently superhuman feat of strength, the killer escapes from prison and is back to murdering pretty young women. Chuck faces his fears and hunts the killer down.
This movie was a pleasant change of pace from the typical twenty-against-one fight scenes, explosions, and full auto gunfights. Chuck's character is tougher than any of us, but in this movie he takes his lumps physically and emotionally. He leans on his girlfriend for emotional support, and at the end of the movie we see him wisely running... Gee another Steven Segal BOMB, wonder what this guy is thinking about??? The story takes place in Poland and a little girl whom Seagal has befriended via penpal has been kidnapped for prostitution purposes.Seagal arrives in Warsaw and single handedly fights the Turkish mob which is behind the above mentioned prostitution ring. The finale is laughable as Stevie being fat and old as he is, proceeds to kill the bad guy witha sword!!!!
