DVD Showgirls (VIP Limited Edition)
When Goldie Hawn recommended Elizabeth Berkley for a small role in First Wives Club, she publicly stated that Berkley deserved the opportunity to redeem herself after starring in the ridiculous Showgirls. That says it all: this sleazy, stupid movie, which mixes soft pornography with the clichés of backstage dramas, is the kind of project an aspiring actress would have to put well behind her to keep a career going (though costar Gina Gershon certainly benefited from her, uh, exposure in the film). Berkley plays a drifter who hitches a ride to Las Vegas, becomes a lap dancer and then a performer, and discovers--gasp!--there's a whole world of sex and violence involved with these things. Gershon is probably the best element in the film, playing Berkley's bisexual rival for the big spotlight on stage. Joe Eszterhas was well overpaid for writing this howler, and director Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct) should have known better than to take it seriously. --Tom Keogh
There's a difference between camp and just plain bad. This movie is not camp. There are too many serious scenes in this movie for it to be camp. Even camp has a sense of innocence. There is too much ugliness in this film for that.
You can tell that most of the actors in the movie are competent, and, except for Elizabeth Berkley, they protect their reputations. Gina Gershon is wonderful as Crystal Connors. She actually ACTS!
Glenn Plummer is great as James Smith. He's likeable at first, and we think he'll become a romantic lead, but no, the film dispenses with romance and casts him aside. Ugh!
This film proves that even a multitude of perfect bodies cannot save a bad film, nor bring it into the "camp" category.
What's most sad about this movie is that there is no sexual tension in it. I didn't find it erotic at all. With such a beautiful cast as ammunition, the director doesn't hit the target once. It's all just a lot of naked, senseless flailing.
And then there's the dancing. All angry Nazi jerks and snaps, and no smoothness -- no sense of the erotic. All anger, no seduction. Yuck.
I was hoping for a turn-on, and got nothing. Honest porn is better.
The jokes on all of you!
For the hundreds of " film critics " who took this film seriously, and criticized it.....may I suggest that you go back and watch the first scene, and the last scene of this film???
She hitchhikes and gets picked up by the same guy, people!
If this were a " serious drama " would they include an impossible coincidence like this??
The entire cast, crew, directors and producer are giving you a big wink with the last scene, it was all just an entertaining
fantasy.
The jokes on you! Lighten up and enjoy this adult popcorn flick...
Elizabeth Berkley is a babe!
Having been a fan of Elizabeth Berkley long before this movie was made, was thrilled to learn she got the lead. I really dig watching Liz in this movie, she is beautiful as always and does not let anyone push her around. Just watching her hitchhike at the end and beginning of the movie is enough to make any man smile, I just wish I could have been the driver picking her up! Great movie, here's to hoping Elizabeth will star in the much needed sequel Showgirls 2. Recently I saw her starring in the movie Student Seduction, Elizabeth Berkley is easily one of the most beautiful and talented actresses today, she is in the same league as beauties like Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Ashley Judd, and Hilary Swank.
In terms of alluring female nudity, Swimming Pool shows a lot, but it's what remains concealed that gives this erotic thriller a potent, voyeuristic charge. With his Hitchcockian handling of secrets and lies, prolific French director François Ozon reunites with his Under the Sand star, Charlotte Rampling, to tell a seductive tale of murder and complicity, beginning when British mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Rampling) seeks peace and relaxation at her publisher's French villa, only to find his brash, sexually liberated daughter Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arriving shortly thereafter to disrupt her solitary reverie. What begins as mutual annoyance turns into something more sinister and duplicitous, alternating between Julie's predatory sex with men and Sarah's observant,... This horrible misfire from the usually reliable writer-director Andrew Bergman (The Freshman) has nothing funny, provocative, timely, or interesting to say (despite being based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen) once Demi Moore gets her clothes off. Moore plays a single, unemployed mom caught up in a custody battle who elects to make some money by stripping at a club. The character's troubles don't end there, however: Her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance. Bergman's great wit is nowhere in sight, and the film primarily becomes another opportunity for Moore to function like a special effect. The unrated video version of the film includes two minutes of footage not seen in the theatrical release. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Demi Moore - Burt Reynolds Director(s): Andrew Bergman DVD Release Date: Released the 27 July 1999 Usually ships in 24 hours

Wild Things is the kind of lurid, trashy thriller that you'll either dive into with unabashed pleasure or turn away from in prudish disgust; it's entirely your choice, but we suggest the former option since it's obviously much more fun. The plot's so convoluted it's hardly worth describing, except to say that it's set in humid Florida and involves a respected high school teacher (Matt Dillon--yes, Matt Dillon as a teacher!) who is faced with accusations of rape by a student (Denise Richards, from Starship Troopers) who had been giving him the kind of attention most people would consider improper for such a "nice" young lady. Another student (Neve Campbell) raises a similar charge against the teacher, and that's when a police officer (Kevin Bacon) begins to investigate the... A love letter to movies (and the French new wave of the 1960s in particular), Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers starts with a 1968 riot outside of a Parisian movie palace then burrows into an insular love triangle. Matthew (Michael Pitt, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), an expatriate American student, bonds with a twin brother and sister, Isabelle (Eva Green) and Theo (Louis Garrel), over their mutual love of film--they not only quote lines of dialogue, they act out small bits and challenge each other to name the cinematic source. Matthew suspects the twins of incest, but that doesn't stop him from falling into his own intimacies with Isabelle. As the threesome becomes threatened, Paris succumbs to student riots. The Dreamers aspires to be kinky, but the results are more... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Bernardo Bertolucci DVD Release Date: Released the 13 July 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

This movie is only good for those that "love" Alyssa Milano. Plot? It isn't non-existent. It DOES exist but it's a complete crap! Period. Just an excuse to show skin.
Regarding the DVD, it's a barebones one but picture and audio quality is as good as most New Line Cinema releases, anamorphic and stuff, plus it's the best release of the movie if we compare it with releases in other regions. You won't be disappointed in that aspect.
