DVD Relax, It's Just Sex
The title suggests some God-awful, trying-too-hard sex farce, but Relax... It's Just Sex! is a surprisingly layered comedy that takes some serious and compelling emotional turns. Jennifer Tilly (Bound, Bullets over Broadway) plays Tara, a straight woman who's something of a den mother to a circle of friends, most of whom are gay or lesbian. While she tries to get pregnant with her new boyfriend, her friend Vincey (Mitchell Anderson) finally meets a guy he likes, an artist named Buzz (T.C. Carson), only to bring him to a dinner party where Buzz hooks up with Javi (Eddie Garcia), who has recently discovered that he's HIV positive. Meanwhile, Sarina (Cynda Williams from One False Move) has just learned that her lover, Megan, has slept with a man and runs into the arms of Robin (Lori Petty, Tank Girl, A League of Their Own). The movie takes story lines that could have been soap-opera clichés and rescues them with clever but realistic dialogue and strong, surprising performances. Over the course of the film the characters grow increasingly genuine, giving some of the twists in their lives an unexpected emotional impact. Relax... It's Just Sex! didn't get much of a release in theaters, perhaps because it's a sympathetic, realistic portrayal of gay men and lesbians, including some graphic sex. The transfer from film to video has marred the cinematography, giving the film a somewhat fuzzy image, but don't let that put you off from this refreshing, funny, and moving film. --Bret Fetzer
I first seen the movie at the theatres but loved it so much that i bought my own copy. I couldn't find the movie anywhere in town to buy. So someone referred me to Amazon.com. I liked the movie. It displays the social lives between gay and straight friends. The story is funny and sad in parts. I remember watching it the first time,,,,,i really felt like i had watched a good movie afterwards. It's worth watching,,,especially with friends.
Not what you'd expect.
When I began watching Relax... It's just sex!, I expected the same useless, witty tripe that is constantly being peddled to homosexuals. You know the type: Something where everyone is happy, except a single scene of discrimination, (which you can't even take seriously because the characters are so shallow), and then everyone learns a lesson. This, however, was not what I found. The scene of discrimination is filled with characters you do care about, and it doesn't pull any punches. The characters arn't a group of homosexual and heterosexual martyrs, they are well rounded and fierce. In addition, this movie is one of the most realisticly romantic I've ever watched. I've been watching "straight" romantic comedies for years, and have never experienced a scene as heartfelt as the embrace between the lesbian couple at the end. A must see for all those who love and are loved.
MADE IN AMERICA
What a pleasant surprise! Honestly, I have had the feeling for many years that a move like "Relax, It's just Sex" would never be made here in America. This movie is about a group of very intriguing good friends comprising of both gay and straight characters where, for once being gay is NOT the problem. It is not a "coming out" or a "is he or is she gay?" film; everyone is very comfortable with his or her sexuality to the point that they are able to be very supportive of each other no matter what is going on in a particular person's life at any particular moment.
There are many very funny moments intermingled with "real life" serious situations, which are dealt with--including love, HIV infection, commitments, a miss-carriage, and a "gay bashing". The "gay bashing" for me, really hit home. For once, in this movie, the "victim" had opportunity to get immediate revenge and did so to the shock and horror of his friends who had problems dealing with his anger and his execution of revenge on one of the bashers. (In all honestly if given the opportunity to get revenge on a "gay bashing" punk, I think that I would take advantage of that opportunity as the character, in the film, did!)
All of the actors in the film are great with Jennifer Tilly giving, to me, an Oscar winning performance-she's hysterically funny at one moment and "heart breaking" the next moment. I just wish I had a group of friends as portrayed in this movie.

This could possibly be the cheesiest movie I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of movies!) Do not waste your money on this low-budget, low-acting-ability, low-camera-experience movie. I enjoy a good "gay movie" every now and then and this was not it. Sorry to disappoint! More Info about this DVD Director(s): Michael D. Torrid sex and tortured emotions fill the screen in Leaving Metropolis. David (Troy Ruptash), a successful painter, has lost his inspiration. To find stimulation, he gets a job at a small, out-of-the-way diner, run by married couple Violet (Cherilee Taylor) and Matt (Vincent Corazza, Owning Mahoney). When sparks fly with Matt, David gets stimulation and inspiration--but the portraits he paints of Matt may break the couple apart. The machinations of a bitter friend bring the situation to a boil. Though filled with lots and lots of sex (both gay and straight), Leaving Metropolis pays as much attention to the character's minds as to their flesh (well, almost as much--the sex scenes are quite extensive and the bodies are all beautiful). Some of the script's... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Brad Fraser DVD Release Date: Released the 06 April 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

A Love story about "What could have should have might have been" IF ONLY... is the basic premise of The Trip. The Trip follows two gay men through young adulthood into early middle age. One a fully realized gay young man living in truth to himself with honor without shame. This first young man was doing what he could as a gay activist from the 1970's onward to champion causes of gay rights, HIV awareness and diversity. The other gay man was a conflicted deeply closeted homosexual chap from one of those hellish super religious conservative homes where father rules with an iron fist and every aspect of waking life is lived daddy's straight arrow conservative way or no way.
On his own and away from his militaristic thought police father at home the young seemingly... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Miles Swain DVD Release Date: Released the 09 December 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours

Marked as a smart, sexy romantic comedic melodrama, the roughly made Luster is anything but. Well, it's sort of sexy, but it's not particularly smart, with a plot that takes a full hour to kick in and some pretty forgettable performances by the young cast. Also, for the most part, Luster isn't particularly funny, with a storyline that ends up veering into some pretty ugly and heavy S&M, non-consensual sex, and even suicide.
Set in Los Angeles, with much of the action-taking place in the more seedy areas of Hollywood, Luster opens just as Jackson Jones (Justin Herwick) wakes up from an all night orgy. Jackson is an alternative kind of guy - he has piercings and streaky blue hair, a goatee, and works in an independent record store.
