  • DVD Sliders - The First and Second Seasons

Though often and unfairly dismissed as a Quantum Leap clone, the Fox TV series Sliders earned a substantial fan base thanks to its intriguing central premise--the existence of multiple alternate realities--and impressive special effects, both of which get a fine showcase in this six-disc DVD set. Jerry O'Connell leads the appealing cast as a college student who accidentally discovers a portal into alternate dimensions; with the help of his professor (Lord of the Rings' John Rhys-Davies), a spunky Girl Friday (Sabrina Lloyd), and a soul crooner (Cleavant Derricks), O'Connell encounters a host of strange parallel Earths, including a British-ruled United States and one where dinosaurs roam a national park. All nine episodes of the 1995 debut season and the 12-episode second season from '96, as well as the pilot from '95, are included in the aesthetically impressive set; extras, however, are limited to commentary by creators Tracy Torme and Robert K. Weiss on the pilot episode, and a making-of featurette with O'Connell and Derricks. --Paul Gaita

Review(s): DVD Sliders - The First and Second Seasons
The Spawn of 21st Century Sci-Fi

without this show so much would not hav been inspired... In my opinion. There was an episode where "The Matrix" could hav been inspired by, all the way down to the Scrolling green characters.

But either way great action, great story, great cast, great show. Nuff' said.

    Sliding Back with Friends.

The first two seasons of Sliders showed a great deal of promise. The actors were just fleshing out their characters and the relationships were being developed. Sliders was never as grim a series as Stargate SG-1 and unlike Quantum Leap, having multiple characters made it possible for a variety of storylines to take place. I really liked the boxed set and although I would've preferred more special features and commentary from Sabrina Lloyd and John Rhys Davies it's a great value. Recommended to all sci-fi fans.

Great show, but where is Danny Lux's super theme music???

Sliders was a super show. Tracy Torme', fresh off of work with Star Trek Next Gen, continued her success with the brilliant Sliders show. Great hook, with Quinn Mallory, a boy genius/physicist/string theoretician, comes up with a workable Einstein-Rosen-Podosky bridge that opens wormholes to other parallel universes, a novel take off of one of the NGen Treks, called Parallaxes, I think.

Wonderful concept, augmented by superb acting by Jerry O'Connell, Sabrina Lloyd, John Rhys-Davies, and multi-talented Cleavant Derricks, as Rembrandt Brown. Nice touch having Quinn asleep in bed, with his clothes (and his glasses) still on, after tapping out in the middle of the night reading Kaku's Hyperspace, a book about 10 dimensions, and parallel universes, and the possibilities of string theory, as the show opens.

Very intelligent show, as Quinn and his compatriots zap from one weird version of our world, to another, with history and events unfolding a bit differently on each world. Like Star Trek, this is the kind of top drawer sci-fi show that comes along only once every 20 years or so. Seasons 1-4 were their best, in my book, but that is just me.

I WOULD HAVE given this 5 stars, however, the packaging is as cheap and ordinary as humanly possible. What?? Why? AND where is Danny Lux's extraordinary theme song? Surely the distributor or studio wasn't too cheap to pay him some royalties for his work. Sliders without the Slider theme, is not right. The 'new' theme is simply loud noise, to be blunt.

Great memories, but an opportunity missed. It is wonderful to hear the surround sound, and excellent audio, (the mixers and audio people did an excellent job on Sliders) and see these classic characters the way they were meant to be seen. Luckily, Season 3 was packaged differently, and, as of yet, I have not discovered whether they ditched the original music there as well, or not. Caveat Emptor, there.

I love this series. And these are great dvds. But, were they done in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, with quality disk holders, good packaging, AND Danny Lux's original music, these might have been PHENOMENAL! What a shame. Why settle for very good, when greatness was at your fingertips? Anyway, it is still a fun romp through adventure after adventure.

Whoever designed the cases/discs for both of the Sliders sets so far needs to be fired. Both cases are a huge risk to the discs. In the first one, its pretty easy to scratch them against one another. And this one is even worse!!! The double-sided discs wouldn't have been a problem if they hadn't arranged the case the way they did. Having to take the top disc out to get to the bottom disc? Absolutely ridiculous!. And you practically have to hold the case open with both hands just to open it wide enough to get the discs out without scratching them. Then, you've got no hands left to grab the disc(s)!!! If you plan on buying this series, plan on investing in a set of cases too. There's no way you should keep them in the case they come in. More Info about this DVD

Quantum Leap - The Complete First Season DVD

They'll be dancing (well, leaping maybe) in the streets now that the first season of Quantum Leap, voted one of the 25 best cult series ever by TV Guide, has come to home video, a decade after its final year (1994) on the air (the pilot episode was released on DVD in '98). And why shouldn't they? This is a show, called "an imaginative diversion" by one critic, with a good premise that's cleverly and skillfully conceived, written, acted, and produced--ample evidence of which is spread out over three discs, each containing three episodes (plus some fairly meager extras) from the first season.

Scott Bakula, in the role that made him a star, plays Sam Beckett, a scientist who's part of a time-travel experiment that "went a little... ka-ka." Unable to return to his own time,... More Info about this DVD

Earth 2 - The Complete Series DVD

Alright, to start with I have read all the reviews to date and decided I had to write my own. The lack of special features is the only valid complaint with the DVD set. As many others have already said it really would have been nice to have some input from the cast/crew. And the packaging is not the greatest out there. As with any series but scifi in particular, you have to take the good with the bad. If you are looking for comedy buy a comedy and if you are looking for Shakespearean dialogue look elsewhere. However if you consider yourself a TRUE scifi fan, then Earth 2 is a must. There are those that say the stories have been done and the aliens are not original. I can say the same for ANY scifi series out there. Earth 2 takes these so called "old" themes and puts an original... More Info about this DVD

I LOVE THE SHOW. YOU ALWAYS WONDER WERE HE WOULD END UP NEXT. BUT WHAT WAS HE TRYING TO DO OR WHAT WAS HIS MOTIVE FROM GOING FROM PLACE TO PLACE. NEVER SEEN ALL EPISODES. NOW THE REASON WHY I GAVE IT 3 STARS. THE ORIGINAL MUSIC HAS BEEN DELETED FOR GENERIC MUSIC IN EVERY EPISODE. MAKING BUYERS BACK OFF. IF NOTHING IS ORIGINAL. THAN I WONT BUY. EVEN THOUGH I LOVE THIS SHOW. IT SPOILS THE MOOD. More Info about this DVD
