DVD I'm Not Rappaport
Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis are the best reasons to see this Herb Gardner (A Thousand Clowns) comedy-drama about bickering, octogenarian companions who meet daily in Manhattan's Central Park. Spinning fictions, pushed around by yuppie scum, brutalized by extortionists and drug dealers, the two men go right on with their benchwarming rituals despite the entreaties of family and logic. Gardner deserves a passing grade for his directing effort, though he sabotages a couple of ripe opportunities to let his two great lead actors intensify the emotion of the piece on their own terms. With Martha Plimpton, Amy Irving, and Craig T. Nelson. --Tom Keogh
This movie manages to make you laugh and touch you deeply as many times as you won't think is possible during the two hours. Is truth always best? Can you still be romantic and feel deeply when you are old? How do you choose to see the world? You will be asking yourself all these questions and might be surprised at the answers.
This is a must see!
They passed this movie in cable and I just saw it for Mr.Matthau but when I finished watching it I was amazed how great this movie is,I don't even know if it did it to the theaters here in Mexico...I think Alex Lora of a great group called El Tri appears.A touching story and one of the greatest movies ever made.Buy it!
Want a good belly-laugh? This one's for you....
We couldn't stop laughing! Two old codgers sitting on a park bench getting stoned...laughs are sure to follow. Tackles some big issues, too, although true to life, no big solutions are found. Aging, the homeless, drugs, violence. All this and more can be seen through the witty eyes of Walter Matheau and Ossie Davis. I'm buying this video so that I can watch it again and again!

Judicial debate gets a lively cinematic treatment in First Monday in October, starring the odd couple pairing of Walter Matthau and Jill Clayburgh. When a justice of the Supreme Court dies, his appointed replacement is a witty but deeply conservative woman, Ruth Loomis (Clayburgh, An Unmarried Woman, Silver Streak). Loomis immediately raises the hackles of Dan Snow (Matthau, The Bad News Bears, California Suite), a fervent liberal in the minority on the bench. For a while, First Monday in October succeeds in making Loomis and Snow's debates about pornography and censorship lucid and engaging, aided greatly by the actors' obvious intelligence and grasp of the issues. But the movie gets sidetracked by an aimless corporate conspiracy plot... I am a big fan of Neil Simon (also Woody Allen and Mel Brooks). But I didn't like this movie when it came out, and I didn't like it yesterday. Walter Matthau is not so protean as these reviews would have it. He can be very funny, but he needs a good script to do it. The women shone. The first story was brutally painful. The whole skit and all but 2 or 3 jokes belonged to Maureen Stapleton. The second sketch was simply nothing. Two things made me laugh (I was supposed to laugh, wasn't I?). When Matthau to freshen Barbara Harris' vodka stinger pours straight vodka right out of the bottle into her glass, and when she asks him (he's a movie producer) whether Frank Sinatra is as generous as people say he is, and he answers that at one of his dinners Sinatra served large portions. The third... An air race from London to Paris provides the premise for this marvelous comedy, which features thrilling aerial photography and some stupefying stunt flying. It's set in 1910, when the (lovingly re-created) airplanes of the period were likelier to sputter and crash than they were to go in a straight line. The international contest requires an international cast, including Stuart Whitman as a cowboy American interested in the ladylove (Sarah Miles) of an English ace (James Fox). Alberto Sordi and Gert Frobe represent the Italian and German nations; Terry-Thomas plans frightful sabotage for race day. From the jaunty opening song and the great opening-credits drawings by Gerald Searle onward, the movie has a pleasingly breezy tone that sits well with the meticulous flying sequences. This is... This movie will crack you up. Walter M. and Jack L. are two peas in a pod in this one. First of all, Walter tricks Jack into a cruise telling him they won the trip, but in reality, he took a job as a cruise ship dancer to get a cheap rate on the cruise! Finding this out, Jack has to entertain old ladies and women that are alone on the cruise line. All while trying to overcome the loss of his wife, Jack decides to try out the dance thing. Little did he know, Walter is "cruising chicks", and has his eye on Diane Cannon, who thinks Walter M. is a rich guy. The scams and jokes played on this movie will make you laugh. This is a funny movie, but does have some bad language, so I wouldn't recommend this for kids under 13. I must say, for old guys they sure can crack up the younger generation. I...
