You remember high school? Really remember? If you think you do, watch this film: it'll all really come racing back. After changing the world with the generation-defining Slacker, director Richard Linklater turned his free-range vérité sensibility on the 1970s. As before, his all-seeing camera meanders across a landscape studded with goofy pop culture references and poignant glimpses of human nature. Only this time around, he's spreading a thick layer of nostalgia over the lens (and across the soundtrack). It's as if Fast Times at Ridgemont High was directed by Jean-Luc Godard. The story deals with a group of friends on the last day of high school, 1976. Good-natured football star Randall "Pink" Floyd navigates effortlessly between the warring worlds of jocks, stoners, wannabes, and rockers with girlfriend and new-freshman buddy in tow. Surprisingly, it's not a coming-of-age movie, but a film that dares ask the eternal, overwhelming, adolescent question, "What happens next?" It's a little too honest to be a light comedy (representative quote: "If I ever say these were the best years of my life, remind me to kill myself."). But it's also way too much fun (remember souped-up Corvettes and bicentennial madness?) to be just another existential-essay-on-celluloid. --Grant Balfour

    Dazed and confused...you bet I was ????

Can someone tell me what this film was about? I was so high on crack and meth, and booze when I seen this in the theater I don't remember a thing. All I know is that the paramedics carrying me out of the theater said I was laughing. Did I miss any nudity, does Ben Affleck die from a horrible sexual disease, please help, also I left a full bag of popcorn on the theater floor, would like it back, once I'm out of rehab.

ITS AT THE MOONTOWER; FULL KEGS;.. EVERYBODYS GONNA BE THERE...YOU OUGHTA GO!

God Damn this really is one HELL of a great movie. I bought the video when I was fourteen and have seen it nine hundred gagillion times AND I STLL LOVE IT! This movie always puts me in a good mood. Every charecter is like one of my friends when I was in High School, and even though I know every single solitary word to this film, it still makes me laugh.
WOODERSON is my favorite charecter, I aspire to be him when I'm thirty. "I love those red heads man"
The music is the balls, and the plot is excellent. Allright, so there IS no plot but its still great! Hot chicks, partying, backwards keg deliveries, The In and OUT burger, The emporium, GENE!!!, THE MOON TOWER! "You gotta do what Randall-Pink FLOYD wants to do...."
    YEAH, This movie is great!

Another great movie by RICHARD LINKLATER that isn't so DAZED but much equally CONFUSED is is 1991 film called "SLACKER." This one is a lot more "INDIE" but an equally entertaining film. LINKLATER writes excellent dialouge in that one too.

    FLASHBACK EDITION= 1 star CRITERION COLLECTION= 5stars

This review is strictly for the awful "flashback Edition" not the movie. The movie is an easy 5 stars in my book. Attention! Dazed and confused fans I have good news and bad news. As you know this flashback edition released by universal is clearly not a worthy re-release, yeah the Dts 5.1 is great, but sound can only entertain you so much. The nine deleted scenes really don't enhance one's insight of the film at all, and the two featurettes have nothing to do with the film. Alright your aware of the bad news, now the good news is that universal no longer has the rights to this film so you know what that means right? The rolls royce of DVD's is taking charge, hence, the Criterion Collection is stepping up to the plate and handling this cult classic movie. This criterion release should come out in summer of 2006. Now i know what you fans are asking, "Why couldn't they give this treatment the first time." The problem was universal studios initally were gonna do a 10 year anniversary dvd for the film. This 10 year anniversary edition was only going to exist if Richard Linklater (director) would do a commentary. Unfortunately universal studios imposed a short deadline for the 10 year anniversary release, there wasn't enough time for Richard Linklater to put all the special features, hence, the behind-the-scenes doc. aired on AMC this past September. But at least we dazed and confused fans know that this classic movie is in good hands and will be given the correct dvd treatment. SO WAIT OUT FOR LATE 2006 it will be worth it!

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Widescreen Special Edition) DVD

Before he became an overrated filmmaker, Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) was a reporter for Rolling Stone who was so youthful looking that he could go undercover for a year at a California high school and write a book about it. He wrote the script for this film, based on that book, and it launched the careers of several young actors, including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, and, above all, Sean Penn. The story line is episodic, dealing with the lives of iconic teen types: one of the school's cool kids, a nerd, a teen queen, and, most enjoyably, the class stoner (Penn), who finds himself at odds with a strict history teacher (a wonderfully spiky Ray Walston). This is not a great movie but very entertaining and, for a certain age group, a seminal movie... More Info about this DVD

Empire Records (Remix! Special Fan Edition) DVD

This story about a day in the life of an independent record store, truly a threatened species, screeches with the sound of teenagers falling apart emotionally every five minutes. The script, which feels like an old guy's idea of how kids talk and think, concerns the young employees of a Delaware music shop faced with imminent extinction. While the ship is sinking, the staff indulge in tantrums, depressions, and run-ins with low self-esteem. There's a lot of noise in this thing, but not a lot is really said. Rory Cochrane has the best part as a secretive guy who loses the store's proceeds one night while gambling, Anthony LaPaglia is the adult boss and unofficial dad to the others, Renée Zellweger plays a promiscuous girl, and Liv Tyler is OK as a lovestruck sweet thing trying to... Half Baked Fully Baked Widescreen Edition DVD

Cannabis comedy doesn't get more juvenile than this pro-pot goof about three stoners who come to the rescue of a fourth buddy when he's arrested for feeding a lethal dose of junk food to a diabetic police horse. Kenny (Harland Williams) is sent to jail, and to rescue him from the almost inevitable trauma of homosexual rape (giving you some idea of this movie's level of humor), his buddies set out to raise his $100,000 bail by selling high-grade weed ripped off from a pharmaceutical research lab. That's about it for the plot; the rest of the movie's a parade of marijuana jokes and amusing pot-friendly cameos by the likes of Snoop Dog, Willie Nelson, and Janeane Garofalo. As two of the bong-hitting buddies, Jim Breuer (from Saturday Night Live) and comedian Dave Chappelle do their... More Info about this DVD

    Almost Famous DVD

Almost Famous is the movie Cameron Crowe has been waiting a lifetime to tell. The fictionalization of Crowe's days as a teenage reporter for Creem and Rolling Stone has all the well-written characters and wonderful "movie moments" that we expect from Crowe (Jerry Maguire), but the film has an intangible something extra--an insider's touch that will turn the film into the ode to '70s rock & roll for years to come. We are introduced to Crowe's alter ego, William Miller (Patrick Fugit), at home, where his progressive mom (Frances McDormand, just superb) has outlawed rock music and sister Anita (Zooey Deschanel) has slipped him LPs that will "set his mind free." Following the wisdom of Creem's disheveled editor, Lester Bangs (Philip Seymour Hoffman in... More Info about this DVD
