DVD Without a Trace - The Complete First Season
It has not taken long for Without a Trace to emerge from the shadows of CSI and become a ratings force in its own right. Jerry Bruckheimer produced both series, and both feature the-face-is-familiar character actors with extensive and diverse resumes who have been catapulted to primetime stardom. Jack Malone, head of a crack FBI missing persons unit, is the Australian-born Anthony LaPaglia's breakout role after years of portraying enough Italian mobsters and criminals to populate a season of The Sopranos. LaPaglia was a surprise Golden Globe Award-winner for this inaugural season. Without a Trace is instantly arresting. "The clock is ticking" in each episode, as Malone and company race against time to find a missing person. "After 48 hours," Malone explains to the rookie member of the team in the series pilot, "they're gone." To solve each baffling case, Malone and fellow agents Samantha Spade (Poppy Montgomery), Vivian Johnson (Marianne Jean-Baptiste of Secrets and Lies), Danny Taylor (Enrique Murciano), and new guy Martin Fitzgerald (Eric Close), must work from the inside out. "Once we find out who she is," Malone says of one victim, "odds are we'll find out where she is."
Among the inaugural season's most wrenching episodes are "Between the Cracks" and "Hang On to Me," both featuring Charles Dutton in his Emmy Award-winning performance as a father whose son has been missing for five years. The powerful season finale, "Fallout," presented in this four-disc set in a "creator's cut," concerns a man who lost his wife in the 9/11 attacks. The riveting episodes mostly stand alone, but some cases do return to haunt Malone, as witness "In Extremis," a case that ends tragically and leads to an internal investigation that threatens to subvert the close-knit unit in the episode. "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?" Sharp writing, authentic procedurals, taut direction, and effective use of music make Without a Trace a series worth finding on DVD. --Donald Liebenson

No reason not to Buy!
I only saw an episode or two until I purchased the DVD set two weeks ago and I can only say that at $8.99 this is a complete STEAL. If you like Law and Order: CI, you'll definitely like this show as well. What I really liked is the consideration they put into the effects of each case. The pilot doesn't capitalize on it much, but while each witness or suspect is questionned, the scene blends seamlessly into the incident. The transitions between the present and the past is impressively well-done.
In terms of value...the series is on 4 double-sided DVDs, which may be an issue for some people but it's a negligible thing to me. The boxing isn't the most impressive thing I've seen either, but it definitely passes. Overall it's a very good deal and I would like to see Amazon put more items of this caliber at about the same discounted price!
The best show on TV!!!
This show is one of the most sophisicated shows on TV at the moment. Each hour-long episode focuses on the story of the missing person with highlights to the characters' personal lives, and the mix is perfect. Full of suspense and intrigue, you will find yourself hooked to each episode as I am! I am living in the UK at the moment, and we have Season 2 and 3 on DVD - which makes up for TV still showing Season 4! Antony Lapaglia is excellent as the senior agent (see Season 7 of Frasier to see him in a totally different light!) and the other agents are played by extremely good actors. Well worth a view!
An Excellent Show!
I recommend to anyone who wants to watch a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat to buy the first season of Without a Trace. This show is amazing & there is definitely no show out there like it. The cast is extremely talented & I couldn't pick a better cast for this show! I absolutely love the show & I happen to own the first season on DVD. I hope they release Seasons 2-4 on DVD soon in the United States so I can add them to my collection!

What do you get when you transplant CBS's successful franchise to the Big Apple? Cases involving sewer rats as witnesses, a victim whose head was slammed in a pizzeria oven, and murders of commodities traders, and--of course--a Red Sox fan. Fun as that may sound, CSI: NY is a bleaker, grimmer version of its Las Vegas and Miami cousins. The team is made up of a pleasantly New Yawk but indistinct cast of characters: Detective Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), Detective Don Flack (Eddie Cahill), medical examiner Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper) and younger CSIs Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito, who has since left the show). Their leader, Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), fares better as one of the few characters in the CSI franchise to have a... Equal parts JAG and C.S.I., NCIS does a formidable job of blending relevant military headlines with quirky characters who are tenaciously determined to solve a crime--even if it means having to sleep in the morgue to get a few minutes of shut eye. Created by Donald P. Bellisario (JAG, Quantum Leap), NCIS actually began as a two-part episode of JAG in 2003. Later that year, the drama made its full-season debut on CBS. On this six-disc set, which includes all 23 non-JAG episodes plus optional commentary by Bellisario on the first episode, viewers are introduced to an elite squad of special agents, led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Gibbs is a hard-nosed investigator who doesn't say much. But when he does, an insult usually comes... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 06 June 2006 Usually ships in 24 hours

I watched about 3 episodes of the original CSI and I thought they were so boring, I couldn't understand all the hype. So, they figure out through investigating the evidence "who done it". I guess it was just way too dark for me or it might have been the characters didn't intrigue me. Then I picked up a disk with C.S.I. Miami and I was hooked.
I know people say they don't like David but I find his character intriguing. I guess I like it that he has more depth then any of the characters that I saw on CSI. Truth I like all the characters on CSI Miami.

Inspired by creator Michael Crichton's experiences as a medical student in a hospital emergency room, ER quickly became one of the most compelling shows of the 1990s, each episode a whirlwind of intense and involving drama, gritty realism, and offbeat humor. Heading the staff at the inner-city Chicago hospital is Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), a doctor so good at providing care to the downtrodden, helpless, or just plain quirky patients that his career blossoms even as his personal life crumbles. Greene is the soul of the cast, but the heart is Julianna Margulies's nurse Carol Hathaway. Her character was intended only for the pilot episode, but she ended up capturing viewers with her palpable empathy for patients and her troublesome romance with womanizing pediatrician Doug Ross... He pops pills, watches soaps, and always, always says what's on his mind. He's Dr. Gregory House (Emmy nominee Hugh Laurie, Blackadder). Producers David Shore, Bryan Singer, Katie Jacobs, and Paul Attanasio haven't rewritten the hospital drama--at heart, it's a cross between St. Elsewhere, ER, and C.S.I.--but they've infused a moribund genre with new life and created one of TV's most compelling characters. More than any previous medical procedural, it resembles Attanasios underrated Gideon's Crossing, but House is lighter on its feet. As fascinating as he is, the show wouldn't work as well if it were all House all the time (that would be like Sherlock Holmes without Watson or Moriarty). Fortunately, he's joined by an intriguing cast of... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 30 August 2005 Usually ships in 6 to 10 days
