Best known today as the series that helped launch Johnny Depp to stardom, Stephen J. Cannell's 21 Jump Street was also one of the first hit programs for the fledgling Fox network, a status that lasted for most of its five-year run (1987-91), thanks to its engaging mix of youth culture and police drama. As outlined in the pilot, Depp's baby-faced Ofc. Tom Hanson is transferred to the special Jump Street division, a unit that utilized young cops to infiltrate juvenile crime. Unlike many of Fox's youth-oriented shows of the period (i.e., Beverly Hills 90210), Jump Street took its stories seriously, and addressed numerous social issues in its episodes; though some of the fashions and slang seem dated, the program remains entertaining decades later. The Jump Street set compiles all 13 episodes of the debut season, including the two-part pilot; the solid extras feature commentary by co-star Peter DeLuise, as well as interviews with fellow Jump Street officers Dustin Nguyen, Holly Robinson Peete, and Steven Williams (whose Captain Fuller replaced Frederic Forrest's Jenko halfway through the first season), as well as the prolific Cannell. --Paul Gaita

I watched this show in the mid 90s fx did repeats of the show i loved it in the 90s and ive been waiting for it to come out on tape or on dvd i bought season 1 and 2 and they are both great i wouldnt even have noticed the music but since i read all these reviews i could tell it was different but it didnt bother me enough to hate the dvd the plots and story lines are still the same i liked them then and i like them now i cant wait to buy season 3 and 4 but i dont remember watching the episodes wtih booker and i am disappointed that johnny depp isnt in season 5 cause he didnt like the show and got out of his contract cause him and penhall as a team were my favorite characters but the dvd gets a 5 cause the music isnt important

I remember this show from the 80's, but had forgotten how great it was! I couldn't wait to finished the season!!! I have received the 2nd Season, have ordered the 3rd and 4th season. What a wonderful show!!!

We love this show! I used to watch this show when it first came out. My daughter is a huge Johnny Depp fan so I bought it for her.

Overall very good season, isn't as good as season 3 due to the lack of effort on Depp's part. The one thing that they did with the dvd that disappointed me was that they removed the song With or Without You by U2 from the episode La Bizca, and replaced it with some generic song. That song really made the scenes in this episode very emotional, this new generic song, however, doesn't do that at all. I was very disappointed as I have been waiting for the episode for a while. Oh well what can you do. This dvd claims to have every episode from season 4, but in reality they only have 25. They put in Wheels and Deals part 1 which was actually an episode from the spinoff show Booker (Dennis). They also axed the last episode of season 4 (though not the last episode filmed in order)... John Waters's goofy, 1990 comedy about a Baltimore girl (Amy Locane) who can't decide if she should remain "good" in her 1954 world or hang out with the motorcycle boys is funny in a scene-by-scene way, but doesn't quite gel into the grand piece the director was hoping for. The cast is exceptionally likable, however, including Johnny Depp as an Elvis type and Iggy Pop as a chattering loony. The best material is set in a fringe world of bikers and losers on the outskirts of town, and Waters writes some hilarious sardonic dialogue for the characters. Johnny Dep is the most incrediblly versatile actor I have ever seen. He plays a fabulous role in this movie trying to save his daughter's life as he gets caught up in a situation where he has to kill someone to get her back. Great movie - suspenseful and well done!
